I was looking up the patch 2 notes and found that it removes spirit blade combos. Does it mean no hack and slashing or is it something else entirely?

You can still hack 'n slash. Just means you can't make things shatter/nightmare/go boom with your slashing. I could be wrong, but I believe Spirit Blade was never intended to be a combo move.

Spirit blade is still a spell, not a real sword so, it doesn't qualify as one for combos. Be cool if it did, freeze then shatter, all on the mage but, it is a spell so, no that won't happen.
