It occurred to me after a few times engaging in dialogue with Varric that there are multiple stories about how he came to acquire Bianca, and in this last playthrough, he tells the Herald:
Ever been to the Black Emporium? I found it in a barrel labeled 'swag'.
I had to chuckle a bit at that one.
He told me that one too! Have me chuckling for a good five minutes.

It is. I couldn't remember the exact line but yeah the ham sandwich part followed the swag comment. Altogether my favorite Bianca backstory.

I didn't really bother playing his quests, so I didn't know.
I like him better in this game than I did in DA2, so he's getting more attention in consecutive play throughs...
i think the one i get the most is the branka one. the first time he lied, i just laughed.
i can understand why he would lie to the inquisitor, since they barely know each other, but i don't get why he would lie to hawke either. he was SO distraught when you meet gerav.
So..Varric is on his way to become Dragon Age's next big villain I suppose?
My favourite Varric lie isn't about Bianca, it's "I'm sorry Seeker I can't help you. I don't know where he is" 
Les flashy, but no less hilarious when you realize that all of Dragon Age 2 was a setup for it, and that he'd thrown in some obvious lies (at the beginning and when he goes to see Bartrand) so that Cassandra would think she could tell his lies from his truths 
Still, I liked the version portrayed in Legacy. Not sure I find justifiable that he was also lying back then.
Yeah would be disappointed if that whole sequence was an elaborate lie.
So far he's told me he won her from Branka, pried it out of the hands of a dead thug in Darktown, got it form the King of Antiva and, stammered when I asked if the crossbow was named for the real Bianca.

If you bring Varric along during Legacy, you meet a dwarf at the very beginning and Varric has a pretty long dialogue with him where it turns out he was the inventor of Bianca. Honestly, the new version of Bianca being the inventor of Bianca sounds a lot like retcon to me.
I just assume they both were involved in creating Bianca crossbow. Anything else just feels utterly stupid.

Because it was made very obvious. Any more obvious and it would have involved a neon sign, cheerleaders and a marching band.
the swag comment is probably my favorite, as he traded a ham sandwich and a pair of yellow ruffled up pants for it.
the branka comment was the 1st one i got and i actually laughed my ass off thinking how true it could have been, then i said yeah... thats a lie...
never got the king of antiva or darktown one
