After my third play through I've realized that no one but Dorian, Cole, Cullen, and Solas appeal to me more.  Dorian is wonderful, Cole is strange but at least he's trying to help people, Cullen is pretty cool and I enjoyed the more natural leader and subordinate relationship that blossomed.  Instead of the game pretending like he was my friend by keeping me "grounded". Solas, surprised me immensely.  I went from punching him int he face but respecting him to actually liking him a lot during this play through. His side quest was good and I still respect him even though his whole "you're different than the rest" pov was BS.

Now in order from not so bad/might recruit again to gtfo/never recruiting again.

Iron Bull- He's okay but after different playthroughs, there's nothing new to learn about him and he's meh for me. Although I do enjoy that he isn't a part of the "Herald of Andraste Cult". So that puts him ahead of some others.

Vivienne- She's actually a cool person, but there is nothing else to her other than the snippets of softness you see in her.  I didn't recruit her in this play through and didn't feel as though I've missed anything.

Varric- Inoffensive Varric. Nothing much there. He's just another Herald of Andraste cultist. I don't hate him or love him, but he's not bad to have around. Though I would have traded him for Hawke in a heartbeat, especially after Hawke is shown to see through the Herald of Andraste BS. I really needed more people like him around.

Leliana- Is my tool. I harden her like a Sith Lord and turn her loose when needed.

Joise: Boring

Cassandra- Too religious and maker driven. A part of the cult and would be the ring leader, especially if you get along with her. She's more of an acquaintance. I've seen her show up at other player's wicked grace scenes but could never get her in mine.

Sera- I tried keeping her all the way through this time and regretted it once I spoke to her at the after party, and she started talking shyt about how I was an ass and once she finds out where she's going she's gonna leave. Mind you, I even tried to be nice to her and let her kill the noble dude. Oh well, she'll always get the boot cause the only good thing about her are those bees.

Blackwall- lol! What a horse f*cking loser, I think I actually loathe him a bit for being such a hypocrite. By far the least favorite of them all. I wish I could have thrown him out the moment he "partially" implied I f*cked corpses.  I exiled the GWs this time and took the opportunity to kick him out. Mainly because I saw how much he disapproved and knew I wouldn't get his personal quest to pop up. If it weren't gonna pop up for me before when I kept the GWs it wasn't going to pop up now. I actually think exiling him is such an awesome punishment. The irony is strong there. He faked being a GW and got into the Inquisition and in the end that same lie doomed him to getting kicked out and exiled. lol!!

I continue to dislike Viv but just now I had her in a party with Varric and Blackwall so she can get 2 seconds of playtime and sadly this is the most talkative any of my party has ever been. The talk consists of Viv constantly insulting Varric and Blackwall while they still act polite to her...she also insults the rest of the world with her insults. I wish I could tell her to "SHUT UP".

For the first time ever, I'm thinking about not recruiting a character in a game. If I don't recruit her, does that mean she can never be made Divine? I love that idea!  :D (Not that I will ever allow her to be made Divine in any of my games anyway.)  :P

If i don't recruit her, does that mean I can never get the Knight Enchanter specialization?  (Only matters in the one game that I might want to play a Knight Enchanter.)

I like thinking about her never being recruited and sitting in her palace with her very old almost dead guy, not getting to play the "Game", not getting to use the Inquisitor and the Inquisition to gain what ever she is seeking, and not getting to insult people I know.  :P

Sera. Blackwall. Occasionally Solas.

Sera requires no explanation.

Blackwall is a coward, a hypocrite, a murderer, and a liar. Sure, he tried to change for the better and that's why I don't despise him, but I certainly don't like him.

Solas is such a ****** if you get on his bad side. I allied with the Templars, Forgave the Grey Wardens (someone has to deal with the blight, we can't have all the Grey Wardens dying at once now can we?) and he hated me. I was perfectly civil to him in every conversation, but apparently he can't handle someone with different opinions. No Solas, Spirits are not people, they're spirits. They're defined by a single facet of the human experience; that doesn't make them a people, it makes them a thing, an emotion. I wouldn't call my emotions people.

And yet you dislike Vivienne for being cruel? She isn't cruel, she just doesn't make time for people who don't deserve it... And she is a very good judge of character. She was the only one to find Solas peculiar, but (unfortunately) she didn't learn his true identity. As for insulting Blackwall, he absolutely deserves it...

Idk if you spent much time with Cassandra but she opens up more as you talk to her. For ex, little miss Seeker is a big romantic and it's hilarious telling Varric about it. "Too religious and maker driven"..What did you expect her to be like? She pretty much explained what her order was and how involved they were with the Chantry. I never saw anything wrong with her for standing by her devotions. That's pretty harsh about Blackwall. Did you play his personal quest at all or did you just miss it on that playthrough? Because Blackwall tries to make up for what he did and imo that's noble of him. Even your advisers, I think it may have been Cullen, say that he tried to be better than what he was. Josie or Leliana point out that he did join the Inquisition and put his life on the line when he didn't have to.

Besides, Blackwall isn't that bad when we consider the companions we've had in the past. For ex, Sten was a child killer. He did it in a panic sure, but still

Of course this is completely subjective, but I personally could barely stand to listen to Sera and Solas.  Which was unfortunate since I used Sera quite a bit in the end game, because she was my archer, and Solas has improved Static Cage which was just awesome, so I used him a lot, too!  ;)  Personality-wise, though, ugh.  I'd rather have anyone else around me.

Blackwall deserves it for being a murdering liar but Viv doesn't know that at first. She's extremely insulting to Varric for not dressing better and not living up to his level of wealth. She sees nothing wrong with mages living in a locked up status and dorm like situations while she has suites in a palace and winter homes and summer homes. She can't even pretend to say something nice without insulting people.

My first character treated her nicely and even got that heart for her and then Viv used her to make herself look better in from of her dead lover's relatives as an unsuccessful means to help her become divine. This second character is not going to play so nice when she's using him to look good in front of people. He's a diplomatic character too but he's not going go for her games.

I think that Viv is a well written character in that she does do what she is supposed to do well. But she is the first character that I have even been close to not recruiting. I probably will continue to recruit her because I tend to lean to the side of being a completionist with each game but I've barely used her in this second game and have been much happier that way.

Here are my least favorites:

Iron Bull - he kind of creeps me out. I find him hard to look at, and his "rustic" brutish ways annoy me.

Blackwell - a sanctimonious and "poor, undeserving me" bore

Josie - boring and silly

Vivienne - too over the top Orlesian. Pretentious. Unprogressive.

Leliana - bitter much?.

For me, it's IB. He was OK at first, but I got upset once the Chantry sisters in Haven started shagging him. It's a bit too much, right away. I mean, I was hyped to be in heavy "Chantry/Faith" playthrough mode. I felt like recruiting him was a message to devs that you want to make a joke about everything. That you're giving them the Green Light for that. The only way to send my own message back is to simply not recruit him at all. I deleted that character... And now the Chantry sisters are safe. lol

I have a sort of personality clash with Sera. Which concerned me at first, because I've rarely encountered a fan of hers I didn't like.

However, even while some of her fans will respond to notion of someone not adoring her with an accusation of lacking a soul or any sense of fun, most of them will be perfectly aware of why she's not everyone's cup of tea. She's stubborn and her perception of the world is very deliberately narrow.

I still appreciate having her around, and the perspective she seeks to bring to the Inquisition. But I was also appreciative that I didn't lose any approval for personally opting out of prank-playing with her. The reason I actually suggested she "go on without me" was because I heard there's a bug involved that can make a certain Commander disappear from his quarters...but it kind of worked out best for that playthrough anyway.

I think Vivienne wins this round. Bull can come a bit close with his barbaric boisterousness, but nothing beats that sorceress.

"Maker look at your shoes. Did Ser Woolworth's have a fire sale?"

"Blow me, maleficent. Go roost in my balcony and leave me alone."

I've already done her Varric book quest, it was sweet and funny. That doesn't mean I have to like her as a person. Also, it doesn't mean she has to change anything for me. it just means that I'm more luke warm to her than anything. My Quizzy is surrounded by Herald of Andraste sychophants so being around companions who aren't a part of that club is a welcomed relief.

I've only seen his Personal quest, I've never once got it no matter how high my approval was, which was pretty high on my first playthorugh cause he practically bled approval(did all warden stuff with him) except during our first conversion in Haven. I just have no time for him anymore and will not be recruiting him again as I don't like exiling the GWs.

As a big Cass fan, I can respect that. You know what you/your character likes/is about. If you don't like the Herald of Andraste thing, that should be a problem. I don't understand when people basically think her beliefs are foolish, and yet still try to have her around. Try doing that to a real life religious person... it doesn't work for long.

This. I talk to all companions around 10 times after every major quest to make sure i didn't miss a bit, even if it's one that isn't exactly my favorite.

Alien language. Not privy to most memes. :D

I don't know what's worth commenting on though. I just thought it was juvenile. If I have the option to avoid it, I'm happy. Other people can do what they want. I paid my $60-70 just like everyone else. IB seems like a decent companion if you basically don't give a **** about any Chantry stuff. Where you're just subverting everything. I just can't figure out a reason why I'd play the game that way.

I think the characters are well written, and I'm probably a bit too much of a completist to not recruit any of them, although I personally like the following not too much:

- Iron Bull: if his 'lawl, I'm a spy' introduction isn't enough to start doubting whether I should recruit him, his rudeness is putting me off a bit.

- Vivienne: insult people for the sake of insulting people? And too selfish for my liking (I don't care if mages get locked up, as long as I have my power and summer house)... yeah right

- Leliana: too ruthless to my liking, and it requires metagaming to soften her up, because you need to pick the right choice all the time... (the first option should not be required imo, as the 'do not interfere' option is also very valid RP-wise. If only you could bring it up again to explain/talk about it...)

- Sera: too narrow-minded and too immature. In my first playthrough I was getting a Morrigan-flashback with the 'disapproves'-spam every time I talked to her...

Yeah, I don't get the point of keeping a companion around just to hate them. It's only natural that they aren't gonna like you as much as you don't like them. For me, it's better to leave her hitting practice dummies at Skyhold since I can't tell her to leave the party.

How many of these damn 'which character do you hate?' Topics do we need? This is like, what, the fourth bloody one.

We get it, you hate some characters, and want to shout it to the forum about your hate but how about doing it one of the other existing threads or is going over a page or two too much effort?
