Playing first as a tempest rogue, and then as a rift mage, it's just awfull to have to slot out skills that have obvious and intentional good synergy with other abilities/spells - just because of the arbitrary and unnecessary restriction. So I'm just wondering... any chance at all this will be changed? Come on... just give me a hope to cling to.
Is there any chance we will get more skill slots? Any at all?

Sorry, the odds of them changing gameplay after release are so thin as to be virtually nonexistant. If you make your view known in a rational and non ranty way in feedback, they may welll take it into account for the next game, though. Half the trouble Bioware gets into is from trying to meet demands they shouldn't so one they should has a pretty good chance of being heard, lol.

By Bioware? No. By modders, Absolutely. We just need to be patient.

This.
As far as gameplay goes, it looks like BioWare has no intention of changing anything at this point. And I honestly wouldn't hold my breath on modding, but at least there is a chance there.

It should be noted that if you put your abilities that aren't in slots as preferred in tactics, your character will use them when you switch to other character to control their actions.

Given, though that is seldom very fun, it is at least a thing. I suppose if you really knew your cool downs and that mana stam setting, add the regen barrier at the right time you could play the PC as an NPC on a rotation. some of those CD are really predicable
Re-training for upper tree passives, then you go, you are now a passive skill to something active.
Rift mage is hard to slot, mages have so many cool things. Hey though, a good game is always like 'do i def, buff, debuff, or hit? This is that very thing
My two-hander uses pommel and smite and is mostly vanguard- templar for passives. it's a fun play in spite of those irksome twangs

I just dont get all the threads and posts asking for more skill slots. Yes I miss having every ability on my bars like in DA:O and DA2. But the way DA:I is designed, you simply dont need that many. And if you are wasting skill points so that you have like 12-16 abilities. Then you missed out on alot of passives that actually make for some exceptionally strong builds.
Fighting a dragon that is immune to fire, bring a mage that is specced mainly in cold dmg. Or just simply respec the mage you want to use into cold dmg. Expecting a game developer to give you access to all the abilities in an rpg can happen. But just dont expect bioware to do it. Of all the bioware games I have played, they have never done that.
I had a few more paragraphs typed. But you know that old saying. "Nothing nice to say, dont say anything at all".
I for one think DA:I is the best one yet. If only they would fix all their dam bugs. Hell had to turn off origin in-game just to fix their dam FPS drop issue.

Ya, even when Bioware gave me methods for using a lot of skills they were clunky and using them, if I could remember to use them, was odd. This game is more nicely fluent and tactical

they got GOTY, so fixing the game is very very low on the list

This. I was originally concerned with the lack of ability slots, but there is a good mix of active and passive talents that allow for fluid play. It allows me to pay more attention to the battlefield and look for opportunities instead of fixating on a long bar of cool downs.

Essentially no chance of BioWare 'fixing" something that very deliberate and was considered a vital element of the game-play design. The devs wanted you to have to carefully select which skills and abilities you'd "equip" for which engagements, or which ones you'd decide were "good enough" to always use.
Whether any modders will eventually be able to break through this lock remains to be seen...
