Why judge the elves for having skinny arms?

They're not humans, so stop judging them compared to humans. They can be as skinny as they want to be. The elves in DA have always been lithe. Let's not use DAO as a counterpoint. We all know that the models in that game all use a slightly altered human model, even the Qunari.

Nobody complains about Qunari being "too big" or "too horny" by human standards. I wonder why.

If you want to play a humanoid race that looks like a human, then play human. I'm a human PC supremacist myself. :D

Although, I agree that the arm curving inward thing is anatomically weird, unless elves have some joint flexibility we don't know about.

Well it's not like female elves are any better tbh, they're weird too.

I don't mind them being skinny, it's actually quite refreshing to play a small dude. If you want some big muscly guy, go with human, dwarf or qunari.

I actually completed the game with male elf, guess I just got used to his weird body lol.

Dude was a warrior, and there were times when his arms looked alright:

Buut most of the time things were like that:

ScreenshotWin32_1470_Final_zpsviasg4ya.p

ScreenshotWin32_1452_Final_zpsxhv87va9.p

So, broken arms and manboobs, yes, that's it.

I doubt BW will fix this honestly.

I also doubt that BW will fix the male elves. Solas body type would have been perfect, but no: they decided to give them shoulders that are smaller than their waist and arms that are so thin they look like they would snap in a breeze.

Bringing up the argument that they aren't human is a moot point, because they look similar enough to humans to be judged by the same standards in regards to aesthetics (all races in Dragon Age do - in constrast to the Krogans in Mass Effect for example, you can't really apply human standards to them, they are too different, which is a good thing).

No it's not. They're a different race, therefore they have different features. Asking elves to be more muscular is like asking Asari to grow hair.

You can have an opinion on the aesthetic just don't question its existence. I dislike skinny arms too which is why I avoid male elves, but I don't go about asking to make them more muscular to appeal to my tastes because they're not supposed to to begin with.

Male elves are skinny twinks and that's how they'll stay.

I get that, and I'm not annoyed at Bioware for making that creative decision but I want my PC to be a badass (I'm English so badarse??) Anyway, I feel the same about female characters. I modded ME3 with the "buff female Shepard" mod becuse she was so skinny out of armour. I may not work out myself but I want to believe my PC pumps iron and can wipe the floor with any enemy.

The almost anorexic feeling I got from FemShep arms was terrible for me too. That's why she always wear the N7 hoodie. It make her look normal.

I really love the premise of a slim male character, with a more lean phisique, since all the others races are all too big for my tastes (expecially the Qunari, but he is so ridicolous I play it just for the fun of playng this almost deformed mass of muscle) but there is quite a difference from lean to anorexic and undeveloped. Solas have (or at least give the impression) of just what I wanted my male character to be. Broad bot not exaggerated shoulders, arms with a definition of muscle without the bodybuilder feeling (so a more antural phisical strenght) well developed thights (and dat ass!!! cough...)

Than I created my poor Amrod and I wanted to cry the moment he was out of the prologue armour.  :( he seem an anorexic teenager with convess arms. Only the Gray Warden robes seem to help. But he really seem a child if confronted to Solas. And let's not talk about Abelas. I didn't find any elf with the same body model problem of the elf inquistor. Is quite sad.

I like my Male elf Inquisitor, but really...the body model is a disaster.

I suppose they could stand to buff them up just a little bit. The Solas model seems to be a good compromise as some suggested.

Im happy if they fix the broken arms but the rest is fine for me. If they change it will feel weird to play my elf character again. Im used to his unique looks.

Now, I don't want male Lavellan to have a commander Shepard body, but there is still a difference between ''normal'' arms and arms from North Korea.

I am in the minority that is ok with the slim, lanky elves. I prefer this body type to the others. In the Scout armor that has the long tail and the right boots, he looks less spindly and just slender. After making this set up the other men seem huge.

I don't mind the slimness of the elves. The arm glitch is definitely annoying and happened to my female elf Inquisitor, too, with one of the light armor mail arms. It's especially frightening here:

Spoiler

What really bothers me is that my female elf inquisitor has a lot of male animations that were obviously made for large, muscle-bound bodies. In consequence, she walks like a giant insect rather than the graceful dancer of my imagination. One can only imagine that the Keeper sent her out of the woods because she was stomping around, scaring all the Halla.

I also find a certain elf the smexiest man in the game, but perhaps it's his shiny shiny armor:

Spoiler

annnnd now that I have made a male elf Inquisitor, I see what people mean by bad rigging/broken arms. This is what happened after I attached crafted arms to my jacket:

Spoiler

It's as if they broke his collarbones, forcing his shoulders down and behind his back.

I already had a bit of a crush on my Inquisitor and then I went to Caer Oswin with Cassandra. seriously look at this elf. He is definitely the most handsome man in Thedas.

It's not the arms or their being skinny - it's those shoulders that kills it for me. Like, that chair behind the character in the second picture is probably wider. That's what kills it. You can have thin characters without having shoulders that are barely wider than the hips.

I don't notice the slight shoulders except when out of armor. I wish there was a selection of loungewear insted of being forced into my underarmor. It is too tight fitting on all bodies and not very attractive on any. Something like Fairbanks' outfit would have sufficed for hanging around the headquarters.

You mean no one wants to play a house elf from Harry Potter?

OMG you made me pee a little.

Agreed.  I'm pretty sure my female Lavellen Inquisitor could eat cornflakes out of the Male Elf Inquisitor's I've tried to create.

And TY, I never thought I would be jealous of Solas' body.  OMG, LOL.

I generally like skinny, scrawny dudes, and I do appreciate Bioware going with four different bodytypes...

But the arm/shoulder bug is just crazy.  Happens to the gals sometimes too, but it seems worse with the guys...

I really hope they fix the anorexic broken stick arms/shoulder thing male elves have going on. I cant enjoy my Inquisitor like that. Very lame.

We spend enough time out of the armor for that to be a problem.

Best character so far for me is my female dwarf.  I don't know, it just seems more fun with some interesting dialog.

Before DAI was launched, I was really excited at the thought of playing as a male elf inquisitor. No way I can ever play now as an elf male after looking at my inquisitor male breast, broken arms and general anorexic body type. It is way too distracting. Specially when my elf inquisitor was fighting alongside Solas and Sera who seem to have had much better luck in finding food during their early years.

I didn't go far enough in game with my elf male inquisitor to reach the love cut scenes but I watched a couple of them on youtube and that was enough to gave me the creeps. It was like an adult male face badly superimposed on a little girl's body interacting with and adult love interest.

My questions remains. Why the devs did something like that? Did they really think that was a half decent body model for male elves? Why other important characters in the game like Solas and Sera ended up having a completely different body model? Was this one of the thousand problems they encountered during the development process when using an engine they definitely didn't master? Was this a way to discourage people from playing as male elf inquisitor so less people would find out that the implementation of multiple races for the inquisitor was a half cooked second though? I'm sure we'll never know and I really doubt it is something that will get fixed.

I got used to the male elf build .They are a bit too thin and the female too.

Anyway my main problem is not the elves , it's human and Qunari male , they look like brick in the beige pajama.

And I just can't.

They are fine with armor on but muscle guys in spandex are just not my thing.

I'm too distracted by their over sized heads to even notice their shoulders. In close ups its like Andre the Giants head on Vern Troyers shoulders.

Hey, this was posted in the Character creator thread - I'll re-post here for those who missed it:

Aravasia has made a variety of body mods for elves!

I took some pics of my male elf so you can see the different models:

Spoiler

Lean, standard and beefy. You can see the difference most where the arm meets the shoulder of the doublet.
