I suppose you 'could' take it he meant 'mean nasty feminist' removed sexy from gaming... but I think he was actually trying to tip-toe around and avoid that presumption. At least.. that's my take.
Bioware has stated that they wanted a more 'realistic' look?? I suppose?
I approached their artistic license like this:
Pre-Game release, I checked out all the companions. Realized I found none of the female characters particularly attractive, so I decided to create a female PC and romance Cullen.
I live vicariously though Cullen, romancing my hot female elf mage PC. She happens to be aggressive, which I like. She approached Cullen ( me ), for a change.
I've enjoyed his romance, thus far. ( just ran wicked hearts last night... working on finishing my first play-through) Regardless - Cullen is just dreamy, exactly the way I'd want to be, and he's like.. all manly, and yet romantic and sensitive. Not a bad looking fellow either. My only regret is he is not a companion.
That's how I compensated for the lack of "hot" female character love interests. I made my own and romanced the heck out of her with an NPC.
The downside to this... I've no idea how I'd romance a male PC. I'd have to do some serious roleplaying to pull it off, as most of the female romance options have personality quirks that I 'personally' find off-putting and would leave them in the 'friends zone'. This isn't even considering physical attractiveness.
He's literally got nobody...
If only he could romance my female PC... now that'd be something..
