I would agreee with if you didn't have classic beauties/models such as Cullen, Dorian and leilana. It seems to me that there is a contradiction here somehow.

Dorian is not conventionally attractive. Cullen sure. But not Dorian.

The more realistic the graphics get, the less you can get away with having cartoonish doll-faced, pore-less, wrinkle-free, gravity defying, perfectly coifed clone women and have it not look extremely strange and out of place, especially when the male characters all look so different and were designed with character in mind, the designer unafraid to give them wrinkles, scars, bald heads, weird facial hair, pale, sickly complexions, etc...If you have the male characters striving for variety and realism and the female characters striving for dead or alive beach volleyball that's going to be extremely jarring.

 

There is, apparently, a very large group of RPG players who do want their male characters to have the same "doll-face, pore-less, wrinkle-free, etc." look as their female characters.  When I was playing Skyrim, HD skin mods for men were few and far between, and the good ones all gave men this completely blemish-less, porcelain skin.

 

And then all the best hair mods only gave them these whispy, perfectly sculpted hairstyles.

 

Every character I made looked like some member of a boy band who just got out of makeup for an interview on The Tonight Show.

I agree with the point that the intent wasn't to make the women in the game ugly, but rather more realistic. As has been mentioned before, the men in the games came with varied appearances, builds and features. The women however all had the same general shape. My stake in the straight male romance game is nil, as I am gay, and yes I like the male choices and yes I am participating in a thread for an even more diverse set of choices (no I'm not asking for more choices). However, I have to say I DO love Cassandra's look because she reminds me of Olivia Benson from Law and Order SVU. I love that she's not "conventionally attractive". And don't get me started on Vivienne. As a black man, it's amazing to finally see a black woman in a game who looks like a black woman; full lips, larger nose, and face shape. So maybe the women don't appeal to you, and it sucks that it's that way, but you win some you lose some right? Maybe next game you'll get one who looks like what you're looking for.

true...and it's unfortunate that it is not possible romance viviane, she is not a woman I would normally consider attractive, but she exudes sex, power and confidence. (and I have a weakness for alpha bitches).

Leliana has soft features but she's not unbelievably attractive. I mean, she's good looking, but not Charlize Theron. The gap between her and average woman isn't quite the gap between Cullen and then average dude.

she is the prettiest of all the major women's in the game. with more classical features, small face without major angles, delicate and upturned nose, clear and unmarked skin, light eyes, red hair.

What I'm saying though is that finding her really attractive is a matter of whether or not she's your type. That's what Bioware did with Cass and Josie too - gave them distinctive looks.

This is where I have a weird disconnect.  They are all cartoons, cgi'ed/w/e I've never really paid attention, because in a videogame, a character is supposed to be attractive looks about the same as one who isn't supposed to be conventionally attractive, limitations of the graphics engine, so I mostly don't look at it.  So I listen to the voice and what they say. And Leliana sounds ****** crazy, always has, and she scares me lol. She does this thing where she talks normal about everything, but when it comes to her "revelation" or "rebirth" she gets this faraway sound in her voice, like she's not all there, and talks the same way religious extremists talk when they plan to murder people.  And Leiliana wants to murder people. Complete turn off.

As I've said before Casandra is handsome and there is appeal to her but not much

 

Josephine's because problem is that second skin of her's, the blue and yellow outfit is not easy on the eye's
