Ok I have put in two playthroughs and I am left underwhelmed.  The whole open world while nice is nothing but filler to hide the fact that the main story is very short.  And while they let you chose to say you are not Andraste's Herald and you do not like the Chantry or even believe in the Maker it changes nothing.  In the end you strengthen the Chantry and are a Holy Figure that will change the world.  Also they tell you many times they took the name Inquisition since they laid down their arms when they did their duty.  But at the end of the game there is NO option to say you are leaving or shutting down the Inquisition.  Nope you are now a despot telling entire nations what to do...

Just my two cents take em or leave em.

Yep. In one of my last discussions with Solas I said I wanted a team to lead the Inquisition and he just tells me that I am weak for it. I think democratising the Inquisition would have been a great end choice... Particularly as my opinions shouldn't be fully trusted as I am now Flemeth's servant.

Yes the feeling of complete awe at the end and the attachment to your companions to the point that when it gets to the end you kinda don't wanna part from them, all of that didn't happen to me

It happened in DA:O and I'll never forget. And everytime I replay it's still the same. What an amazing game.

DA:I wasn't a half assed job like DA2 seemed to be. The journey was nice but the end didn't give me any feelings.

DA:I feels like shiney and fluffy filler. Whatevers going on with with Flemeth, Solas, Morrigan, Hawke, Weiusshupt, and the HOF cureing the calling seems to be where the real story is at.

Agreed. It has a bad habit of telling rather than showing, unfortunately, but otherwise I enjoyed myself and don't regret the purchase in the least.

Oh I don't regret my purchase in the least.  I enjoyed the game.  It just fell short of being a truly great game or one of my favorites.

I really have to agree. I don't regret my purchase either and I still really enjoy the game but there were a lot of interesting things that seemingly happened offscreen. I know there were definitely a few wartable missions that I would have loved to play through instead of sending someone else out to do my bidding.

Its a "good" base game and a great first attempt on FB3, an warrants the money i spent on it without fail, dlc for me will determine if it goes great, there is a crap ton of potential, time will tell if BioWare can build on it

I just hope they realize there be ppl like me who put alot of stock into aesthetics and address that as-well as other things

Disagree. It was a great game.

The problem, as it were, is that it gets (rightfully) compared to Origins which is an awesome game.

But what about some of the more ground breaking choices? Are they in the game? Biggest I encountered was Mage vs Templar, Hawke... the story missions were great but I didn't feel like the world around me shaped in many ways.

What happened to "lead this world to its bitter end"?

Overkill on the open-worldness, and the story/characterisation suffered.  I wouldn't even call it a good game, I would call it a bar above average at best.

By contrast the ending of DA2 gave me lots of feels. The destruction of the chantry was so powerful and so well done... It was just that when DA2 finally got somewhere amazing it ended. For all of the problems I had with DA 2 the ending wasn't one of them (other than the fact that it was the end rather than a beginning).

I agree, the "open world" is just an illusion really, not much you do in said open world really matters, and in subsequent playthroughs I end up skipping a lot of areas and kinda do the bare minimum to get through the story (I just like seeing the companion side stories and alternate dialogue options) I was let down that nothing at all comes from you either accepting your role as andraste's herald, or rejecting it. I was not surprised however as the game needs a generic title for your character when they make the next DA game.. "The Hero of Ferelden/Warden "The Champion of Kirkwall".  "The Herald of Andraste" A bit of a cop out, you have no real say in what's going on ultimately. Makes me miss bioware's earlier games like knights of the old republic, least it had  endings reflecting if you were benevolent or a complete monster at the end.

Not convinced of that one. If you count DA:O and Awakening as two separate game then that would be my top 2 (actually liked Awakening more) but I think Jade Empire and KOTOR were up there... Probably more than DA:I. I just hope that now they are familiar with frostbite and have the character models done they can refocus on powerful story telling for DA4 for the best game yet.

It tried to be too big for its own good.. Story was short and I found it really hard to care about the inquisitor, no matter how hard I tried.

Crafting was the best it has been, but has problems and for the amount of player choice we gave up in order to have it, I expected better..   In short. Its better than DA2, but still pales in comparison to DAO.  Though in no way am I saying I regret the purchase, still leagues better than the other stuff that is released nowadays, but in some ways, that is a sad statement.  The passion is gone.

The story was too short and the open world just felt disconnected from it as well. It was good, but could've been FAR better. It was difficult for me to feel connected to the characters. I don't get it. One of the biggest complaints about DA II was its short story length, but then they go ahead and make the same mistake with inquisition. Sigh.

8.5 out of 10.

Great Game.

My Game of the Year.

Would have been 9 if not for some technical issues.

Probably sits just behind Mass Effect 2 as best BioWare title.  KOTOR was fantastic, but I could only sit through 1 play through.

I agree with the OP, it feels unfinished. Mainly because of the "WHAT?!" moment after the credits, the underwhelming final battle(more dialogue from Cory would've been good) and the fact that the team isn't leaving. We need something like Citadel DLC.

I dunno if unfinished is exactly the right words for it. The ending gave us everything that the game promised from the onset, at least in terms of story, it's just that further questions were raised as we worked towards that ending. And frankly that's a good thing, not just for BioWares pockets but for the story and the franchise at large. We got three acts, it's just at the end we realized that there's an act four. And another play beyond that.

What I do hope though is that BioWare isn't quite as lazy linking installments next time around. Seriously, who thought taking the villain from DLC for the least popular game in the series and making him the antagonist for the return-to-form game was a good idea? I knew plenty of people who needed Cory explained to them beyond the band-aid explantion that DA:I gave. It was just sloppy.

This game gave me a feeling of deja vu. It reminded me of how I felt going from Deus Ex to Deus Ex: Invisible War. While I enjoyed the story, the implementation is flawed.

I'll sum up my feelings in three words: crappy console port. I believed the bs they were spreading. Developed for the PC my @. Knowing what I know now, I would have waited at least a year for the price to drop.
