Hey all,

I don't think I have seen a comprehensive list on the trigger for companion's personal quests in this forum (except in bits and pieces scattered everywhere). I am wondering what is the actual trigger for each companion's personal quests? I have had Dorian bugged on me and a couple of companions not firing correctly in some of my friends' games... So let's just match up and pool what we know?

Also, I'm pretty sure (by now) that all the collecting (e.g: Blackwall's Grey Warden Memories) or killing quests (One Less Venatori) are not necessary to trigger the actual companion quests (those that can potentially change their tarot cards)... And then there are confusions about which quest is romance specific (or not)...

And then there is also approval to take note of, some people said that companion's quest will not trigger if their approval towards your Inquisitor is low (yet there are many people who have had Sera who absolutely hated their Quizzy and still got her quest). Or is there anything that can "prevent" the quest from firing???

*Spoilers abound of course*

Sera

Personal quest: "The Verchiel March" - the quest where you go to a one time area of Crestwood where you confronted the nobles who had been kiling her Red Jenny friends. You have the option to let Sera kill the noble or let him "work" with the Inquisition?

Trigger: Red Jenny wartable missions???

Dorian

Personal Quest: Last Resort of Good Men? (Meet his father in Redcliffe after getting the quest from Mother Gisele in Skyhold's Throne Room).

Trigger: *This quest totally bugged on me and I could not get it, so help me here* - Apparently you needed to get the cutscene with Dorian receiving a letter from Felix?

Romance Quest: ????

Varric

Personal Quest: Well **** - Investigate red lyrium trade with Bianca

Trigger: Here Lies the Abyss (Grey Warden Storyline) completed.

Cass

Personal Quest: Promise of Destruction - Find the missing Seekers and Lucius.

Trigger: ??? (I completed Here Lies the Abyss but not Wicked Hearts and Wicked Eyes when it triggered).

Romance Quest: Guilty Pleasures - Buying Cassandra some romantic stuffs

Trigger: Ask Varric to finish writing his book for Cass?

-> *This is what my Cass romancing friend told me - can anyone confirmed?*

Blackwall

Personal Quest: Revelations - Attend Mornay's execution in Val Royeux

Trigger: Complete Here Lies the Abyss *and* Wicked Hearts and Wicked Eyes.

-> *note*: My friend somehow could not get it to trigger and he is positive that Blackwall's disposition is high... He did banish the Wardens however. There are also people who only managed to get it to trigger towards the end of the game, and not necessarily right after the completion of Halamshiral plotline.

Romance Quest: Explanations - take a trip with him to the Storms Coast.

Cole

Personal Quest: Subjected to His Will (Obtain an Amulet for Cole to prevent him from being controlled)

Trigger: ???

Vivienne

Personal Quest: Bring me the Heart of Snow White -> kill the white Wyvern

Trigger: Complete Wicked Hearts and Wicked Eyes (and/or Here Lies the Abyss?)

Solas

Personal Quest: All New, Faded for Her - Help Solas

Trigger: ??

*Note: This is a very buggy quest and many people could not complete it even though they received the quest. The trick is to approach the quest marker from the North (and not South; from the river/Dalish camp) and to examine a couple of dead bodies nearby before going to the Pride Demon. Some people also mentioned that they have to close the Fade Rift nearby to trigger properly???

*** Solas supposedly have another quest (What Lies Dormant) that is triggered after you activated 10 or more Elven Artifacts (from Measuring the Veil) - this quest apparently does not trigger for anyone atm.

Iron Bull

Personal Quest: Demands of the Qun

Trigger: ??? (I got the quest after repeatedly talking to Iron Bull with high disposition and after completing the scene where the Quizzy hangs out with the Chargers at the bar).

Romance Quest: Tough Love - Craft a necklace made from Dragon's Tooth

I think that's it? Personally, my initial intention was to help my friend ask why he could not trigger Blackwall's quest (the only one not triggering for him, and wonder whether banishing the Wardens played a part in it). Then I figure, I might as well just ask around how to correctly trigger companion's quests for future playthrough. Kinda disappointed at how some flags are just really badly done atm.

I've heard Bull's quest triggers at a certain approval level and requires that you ask him about his work with the Ben-Hassrath. I can't speak for the others, though.

Cole's requires Here Lies the Abyss to be completed(he doesn't freak out and want to be controlled until he finds out Corypheus is controlling demons).  It might be approval-based too, but i can guarantee that it won't appear before Here Lies the Abyss is complete.

For Dorian's quest, I got it right after I got Skyhold and I traveled to the Hinterlands, went to Valammar (irrelevant, just saying I did finish a/more quests) and then went back to Skyhold (which triggered Skyhold not being completely new/bar was now open, etc. Then got the Dorian talking about Felix cutscene, then went to the throne room where Mother Giselle tells you about a letter.

Had you completed any of the main missions after Skyhold before getting the romance quest? Finding the Warden, Winter palace?

I got Blackwall's romance quest after I got Skyhold (and after the scene where he takes you up to the battlement of Skyhold and commented about the defense). I got Cass' book scene right after getting Skyhold too... Which I assume sets the prerequisite for her romance quest if your Quizzy flirted with her?

I am taking a wild guess here that most of the romance quest starts after completing In Your Heart Shall Burn. I am not sure if it gets blocked if you went too crazy with the main quests and started Wicked Hearts/Here Lies the Abyss.

I am about to complete my first playthrough, and thus I cannot speak for other romance quests besides Blackwall's at this moment... And also the reason why I am not able to answer my friend's question on whether his personal quest is affected by the decision to banish the Wardens (which uhhh... I won't do for nostalgia's sake). Can somebody help me on this one (there gotta be peeps who banished the Wardens here in the forum)?

I also tried reloading the save where I just got Skyhold, and increased the heck out of Dorian's disposition before talking to him to see if I could trigger his quest (or even the Felix's letter scene) to no avail.

Thanks guys, keep the replies coming :)

Cassandra's main personal quest triggered for me before completing Here Lies the Abyss or Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts, so I think it's approval based and only requires arriving at Skyhold. I got Vivienne's only after completing Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts but still before Here Lies the Abyss, so it's either just Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts or based on approval (could be both).

Can't get any of Solas' quests to trigger though, only Measuring the Veil worked for me.
