Become a super templar? Yes please. Like spectres.
No, like Justicars.

About as fun and enjoyable as anyone else in Thedas.
Ehem, Magisters..
Yea?
Yea?
No, like Justicars.
Keep splitting those hairs.
Yeah.
So what about them?
I think it's interesting that the Qunari haven't developed a similar procedure to make mages tranquil. They would love that ****. I'm really surprised they haven't traded the Black Powder recipe to the Templars for the Rite of Tranquility procedure.

Probably because what they do works.. And in the Qun mindset, if it works, things are as they should be.. there's no reason to develop an idea further if it's reached it's purest expression.
That purest expression being a leash and sewing mouths shut :\
A lot of things would solve a lot of problems if they didn't have negative side-effects.
They live a better and more luxurious life than most people in Thedas.

So do Orlesian nobles, but that's not my idea of fun.

It cuts off their connection to the fade, removing their ability to cast spells and invite possession. A Tranquil (As We've seen) can still be possessed, but it would require a whole carefully prepared ritual, not a lapse in judgement / moment of weakness.
As for the people saying the right is an abomination, and using Karl/Pharamond's reaction as proof... That may be true. A normal person comparing their life to a Tranquil life would hate it; But the Tranquil don't hate it. They exist to serve, they're extremely useful and they don't mind what happened to them.
They don't mind because they literally are incapable of caring about it. But the tranquil who were cured that we know about absolutely hate it, and Cassandra says when she regained her emotions (even though she didn't know she was cured of tranquility at the time) was the most wonderful experience.

Yeah, but Tranquil are essentially unfeeling robots who always do their duty and adhere to order. The Qunari aren't incapable of advancing or learning. It does make sense that they wouldn't research it on their own, but they have enough spies and ambassadors to be aware of it by now and I'm sure would find the concept an attractive alternative, especially because it frees the mage from fear of possession, and would ultimately make them a productive member of Qunari society.
IMO the Qun should be all over trying to bargain or steal the technique from the Templars. The fact that it even works on normal people (ala the seekers) is more reason why, probably the Ben-Hassrath would like to get their hands on the technique.

Yeah. The bottom line is that the very definition of mage in Qunari is "dangerous thing". They are nothing more than weapons. So they handle them accordingly. A tranquil solution goes against their idea of using a weapon.
Except for the fact that it wouldn't. For one they'd be acutely aware of what was missing and we don't know how that could mess with someone's psyche. Especially if they didn't volunteer for the Rite because then you've got individuals who are resentful and angry. Removing their emotions in the process removes this potential complication.
I agree that the Rite, in and of itself, is largely abhorrent but that the Tranquil themselves still deserve to be treated with respect. The way some Mages treat them, as if they're something lesser or something to be taken advantage of (the latter applies to the Templars as well as the Mages) is disgusting. The whole Ocularum thing still strikes a chord with me to the extent that I'm angry that I couldn't do anything about it.

Mage fashion is marginally less clownish.
I have a better idea: just kill all the humans

Sometimes. Used to have ugly hats. ![]()
They really are like any sect of nobility.
Minus the level of influence, the ability to determine policy and make decisions for themselves like if they can get married or raise families. Or even enter relations depending on the Knight-Commander in charge of each circle.
But sure, having all the perks and never being allowed to know how good they have it compared to others makes it worth that, right?
I mean, it's not like they can appreciate what they've got since they're not allowed to see or experience what they don't. (sarcasm)

Lol that's sad, isn't it? Ha. It's like a demon of obnoxiousness threw up all over them and they just said, "Eh, **** it. I'll keep wearing this!"

Perhaps, but even the Qunari understand that mages don't have a choice in being mages, and it seems like they (at least the Ben-Hassrath) go to great lengths to make citizens productive members of society. I think the Qunari of all people would consider tranquility to be a merciful and attractive option for mages.
To the OP, I still think a lot of mages wouldn't go for it. I don't think mages would want to go back to being normal, even with the risks magic entails

I agree. Think mutants in that one terrible x-men movie.
Hmm, that's probably not specific enough, LOLOLOL.
