If the rite of tranquility didn't make Mages emotionless, it'd solve a lot of problems.

Perhaps, but even the Qunari understand that mages don't have a choice in being mages, and it seems like they (at least the Ben-Hassrath) go to great lengths to make citizens productive members of society. I think the Qunari of all people would consider tranquility to be a merciful and attractive option for mages.

I wonder. Maybe.

I just think that the way they label things doesn't leave much room for change. Where they think they've honed in on the true nature of something. So the mage would always just be Sarrebas.. the dangerous thing.

So do Orlesian nobles, but that's not my idea of fun.

Your idea of a fun life is fighting for religious bs?

They really are like any sect of nobility.

I dare say having slaves makes for a more fun and luxurious life as opposed to servants

It's more complicated than just religion. Seekers of Truth are meant to balance forces. It's an ideal, but one that would be cool.. if you're skilled. The prime targets are both corrupt mages and abusive mage hunters.

True, and the choice to make a young magic sensitive Qunari into a (Qunari word for tranquil) would probably be left up to the Tamassrans. I just think it's something that the Ariqun might want to explore.  Yes it's taking away a weapon that the Antaam uses, but even the Antaam seem to dislike using or having Sarrebas around, and they do have black powder which is almost as good.  Sarrebas are barely trained and so it's not like they have refined healing or barrier magic, they really aren't all that more effective than black powder canons, no where near what trained mages can actually do.

They may not go for it, but I'd be interested in at least seeing what the Qun's take on tranquility is.  If given the option would they choose some more reliable, devout mages to be Sarrebas and some reckless ones to be tranquil? Would the Ben-Hassrath try to use it on regular people that prove far too unreliable, even for alchemy?

Instead of having fun in life you dedicate yourself to ruining the fun for others, yay.

Meh, to each their own. I guess if hurting / killing people is what really brings you joy in life though, you found a gold mine. Same for soldiers.

Everybody is an idiot in one way or another, it doesn't matter who you kill.

Says the magister lover.

Don't even try to act righteous now. lol. You'd be a pisspoor magister if you didn't keep people under your heel. And if you don't, you're dead. Someone will just take your place. Tevinter is social darwinism gone awry.

What makes no sense is that the dwarves are implied to have collectively made themselves Tranquil, and yet they retain personalities and culture.

The major issue with the Tranquil is that they are not treated like people, and not permitted to rejoin society in any meaningful way. They're treated like service golems, feared by mages at best, picked and even hurt by mages and templars alike at worst. If Shale can develop a personality, why couldn't a Tranquil? Personality comes from habits and experiences. When denied that, of course they're going to seem lifeless and listless.

I'm not righteous lol. I just do not enjoy the acts of inflicting pain on others, I am indifferent to it. Its just that if something that I actually enjoy inflicts pain on others as a biproduct, then so be it.

Also you'd have to hope if you fell in love with anyone it would be the person you were matched with because you don't get any say in that aspect. Pretty sure being married to someone you despise often leads to unhappiness and isn't very fun.

Shale didn't really develop one.. she always had the essence of Shale, the dwarf.

I'm talking in the context of the games. lol

There isn't much to do in these games except kill. Might as well be the idiots I do it to. By idiots, I'm referring to extreme templar or mage types. It's an ongoing struggle about control and liberty, and how both extremes destroy everything. So balance must be made.

Someone's gotta do it. May as well be someone with the occasional anger issues to work out, trolololol.

I believe Divine Justinia was looking for a way for mages to be made tranquil and still have their emotions in Asunder.

Wynne was looking into it. It turned out to be a giant clusterfuck that killed dozens of innocent people. Justinia had reservations when she heard the full story..

A lot more happened after that, but I won't digress.

If a person has free will to do what they want to do then the only person that should do it is the one that wants to do it.
