I've looked through some threads about Solas here, but didn't manage to find some explanations and/or theories about why in Grey Wardens quest Solas greatly disapproves if you don't send Grey Wardens away but keep them to help the Inquisition. Why he doesn't like them so much? I know the ending, played twice, read A LOT about Solas and world history but it seems that I lack some important information.

Because Solas believes they are not as important as they are made out to be. Add in the fact that they were willing to do something so horrendous(at least in his mind) of killing the Old Gods to prevent future Blights. He believes they go too far in order to prevent a "what if" future of an Old Gold becoming an archdemon. And if it is true that Wardens are needed to end Blights, then they need to be rebuilt and kept in check and not have as many freedoms to do "whatever needs to be done"

If the Elvhen gods and the Tevinter gods are the same entities (as has been hinted at), then every time a Warden takes out an archdemon, they are destroying an elvhen god.

You can sort of get him to come around if you talk to him after Adamant and explain your choices and really drive home that - hey, Blights suck and our options in stopping them are pretty freaking limited. It's Wardens or we all die. He backs off a little bit after that.

I think he also greatly disaproved when I sent that one Warden to her Calling. He actually hated that she'd be killing Darkspawn. He also stated at one point that the Warden's were completely ignorant to the blight & Darkspawn. So it looks like everything we knew about the Blight & Darkspawn from the previous games may be in danger of being thrown out the window with wherever Solas is taking things. And then there's the whole went to the Darkspawn Magister for help first.

I was initially bewildered at how intense his hatred for the Wardens seemed to be. It seemed out of nowhere, atleast outside of the Wardens harming spirits for the ritual. After the Dread Wolf reveal it makes sense he may know more about the Darkspawn than anyone could guess.

Judging by his banter with Varric, Solas doesn't know much about the Grey Wardens. He sees them as ineffective.

It'd sure be nice if Wolfie cared to share what he might know, rather than skip out without so much as leaving his masterwork gear behind.

It annoys me...

...but at the same time I'm so thrilled that he is hypocritical about so much stuff.  Like, they are at least doing something, shouldn't that be good?  Solas is...annoying, but at the same time, once you know the stuff from the end of the game, he is ridiculous because he knows so much more than everyone else, but (from what we can see), just spends his time wandering the Fade.

He's a hypocrite. He claims the wardens trying to prempt the blight is foolish and could make things worse, but this is the same guy who gave a darkspawn with a god complex a power boost and somehow thought it would benefit Thedas.

He doesn't seem to like it if you do anything against old magic or things people don't truly understand.

Yup! I hate the Grey Wardens so I will give this super immensely powerful artifact to a darkspawn magister. Seems legit.

I find the Grey Wardens abhorrent as I find anyone who is "ends justify the means" abhorrent to my nature - there is no "end" there is just limited puny human thinking.

That being said - I find Solas worse.  He created the Breach by handing a Darkspawn magister an artifact then has the audacity to say what the Grey Wardens want to do is horrifying because it kills an old god or some nonsense.

So basically Solas - you would prefer two Blights to kill millions of mortals because hey, you're a douchey elf god, so what do you care - so long as those precious mythic old gods are saved.

Dears Elves:  I don't blame you for being such a-holes... I blame your "parents".

We see that Flemeth - who is carrying a part of an elven "god" in her - can transform into a dragon. Morrigan gains this power when she gains the well. It may be that the old gods are similar beings that were trapped in their dragon forms, and that the blight corrupts their essence. This might be why Flemeth was afraid of the blight in DAO, and why she wanted the OGB.

In fairness to Solas a few of the companions dislike Grey Wardens. It's Biowares way of showing how ungrateful Thedas iswhen it comes to their sacrifices. Just like we were always told since DA:O.

I think Solas doesn't like the Grey Wardens specifically in DAI because they were binding a demon army, and he's very against spirit binding. He also thought their plan to attack the Old Gods before they were blighted was abhorrent.

He doesn't seem to have a problem with killing Old Gods once they're blighted though. I figure his opinion is similar to Morrigan's... old and unique entities should be preserved where possible.

Maybe because they summoned spirits and twisted them into demons on a mass scale?

He comes from a time where things were a lot different. He has opinions about it. Burn it with fire.

Blackwall didn't help. People think he is a good guy and I want to wring his neck. Telling the girl in Crestwood not to join he disapproves?

Gloryhunter.

And like Solas who is ancient, Blackwall should also scratch his arse and live in the now.

He has hypocritical opinions. So, yeah, people should burn this particular one with fire.

If you judge a character in a game with real life values/morals then you will always have issues. That is not the game, or characters fault.

If you slept for hundreds of years and woke up.. would you simply change your whole belief system in a few days to make people happy?

So how am I to determin if I like\dislike a piece of fiction if I don't use my own personal preferences then. Solas dislikes Grey Wardens because he thinks they are bumbling ineffective soldiers trying to kill things they don't understand, but they have saved the world five times while he had a hand in nearly destroying it. He should look at himself before he runs his mouth off about others.

Well if Cory can survive what seemed to be a final death, the body he was in was definitely dead, then perhaps the old gods actually do survive the death the wardens deal them but are severly weakened or trapped somehow by that death. Solas being Solas is not going to like that at all.

Solas dislikes Grey Wardens for other reasons, history, and the fact that they are now bumbling idiots following Corys lackeys. The thing is I trust Solas partly because I trust Flemeth. I guess everyone should figure out their own theories. Solas asked a magister to power an orb, maybe way back when magisters could be trusted who knows.

One thing I don't understand, mages and templars are ripping eachother apart, and it's fine? No-one cares about what Anders has caused, oh wait, it isn't HIS fault.

JEEZ.

It is Corys fault. If you gave someone something important, and they used it for their own selfish means, by your reasoning I should blame you. That way no-one is responsible for anything they do.

louise101:  Just because someone has antiquated beliefs for a reason - doesn't make the beliefs not antiquated.

It has nothing to do with "Solas is wrong."  If he's truly an elven god - he's not wrong, to himself (or Mythal evidently).

However - I am not an elven god (at least in game, in real life... shhhh) - and therefore I do not think as elven gods might, nor do I find it wise for a mortal to try to do so.  Especially when the elven gods are clearly lower case "g"ods... who walk the earth and have petty emotions and perspectives which do not seem to be much more beyond those of a mortal.

BTW - you're aware who empowered Cory to even have lackeys in this game yeah?  Cause it was Solas.
