Yep.

And on the games I romance Cullen I guess...I'll just have Dorian not recruited I wish you had the ability to ask all companions to leave whenever like Sera so I could at least dump him after the rumors start spreading to keep it in character but meh. Bull can keep banging his serving girls and Dorian fight the good fight in Tevinter.

If I ever get around to doing a playthrough where I don't romance Dorian, I will probably just keep him and Bull apart.  I rarely use Bull as is. Not because I dislike him, but because I find it difficult to keep him alive in combat. Enemies shred through his guard way too quickly. I suspect that Bull is meant to be played where he is constantly on the verge of death to make full use of his Reaver-ness, but I like my warriors untouchable.  I do take him to at least one dragon battle. Even though he sucks up all my healing potions, his dragon banter is worth it at least once.

How about we all hold hands and not accuse each other of being facilitators of abuse/"social justice warriorz!!1". We're operating on two different frequencies at this point. It's not, "wow, this is abuse so you must be totally okay with your friends getting abused, ugh I'd hate to know u irl" because fans of their relationship DO NOT SEE IT THAT WAY AT ALL. We're not "glamorizing abuse" because... we don't see any. Like I said before... I see playful tsundere banter, other people see toxicity.

Likewise, claiming that everybody who feels a bit uncomfortable about the banter and would like to have an intrafandom dialogue about it is just butthurt or "has an agenda" is equally harmful. Dismissing people out of hand because you don't like what they have to say isn't gonna beget mutual understanding. It's easy to get defensive of characters you love (Zevran and Carver, I'm looking at you~) but pls realize that sometimes characters/pairings just rub people the wrong way.

I really don't think we need a thread about it, though. Maybe a fanthread and an anti-fanthread so people will stop pulling each other's hair like kindergarteners.

Yes this too.  It'd be lovely if we could have an actual discussion about this without resorting to "OMG YOU ARE EVIL AND LOVE ABUSE" or "OMG YOU HAVE AN AGENDA AND WANT GAYS TO RULE THE WORLD"

Not that that's what this has turned to...yet.  But it's on the way there :P

So you saying that without presenting any real facts, we should just take what your saying at face value? If your confident in your opinions, then the link would be posted. Someone called you out for what your basing your accusations on and you have no real defense other than "go look it up yourself, why should I have to show you where im getting my information from". Come on man.

Everyone knows where the banter is. It's not some obscure academic article to which only I have access.

Fade touched obsidian shards my friend.

There is a one in a chest in a locked house in Redcliff. If you only take that, leave map and re-enter map, you can get another one infinitely.

Bull is fine as S&S he's not the best (Cass AI is amazing (Well most of the time. There's times...) ) but he's perfectly functional as a tank for any team composition I've come up with so far. He's annoying as 2HDer. I expect I could make due on normal but I play on hard and it's just too annoying to have to micromanage him. (When I have him and Cass on the team though he's great as 2hd) It's Dorian who's constantly dying for me and I just find Solas to be better. *shrug*

I take him on all my dragon fights though. The banter is amazing.

I think they are asking about the particular part of the banter. Most of the youtube videos have the whole banter in one file.

He's a lot better if you give him a shield rather than leave him two handed. He'll still never be as tank-ish as Cassandra and Blackwall due to how Reaver works, but he's functional enough to use.

I've never tried Bull as a S&S.

Really?  Whenever I take Dorian and Solas along, it's always Solas who has trouble staying alive. Dorian's necromancer spec where he recovers health and mana around dead bodies really helps. (Plus I tend to give Dorian heal on kill as well.  ^_^

For me, it's AI Blackwall who's the potion guzzler, and I'm...not quite sure why, honestly.  I have him spec'd deep in Champion (the usually unkillable, AI-proof class) and, since my Inquisitor is also a Champion and the party tank with all the taunts and everything (Blackwall has none), BW never "tanks main"...or he shouldn't, at least.  And the kicker is, when I let the AI take control of my Inquisitor in the exact same party setup, it does just fine.  Weird.

Yeah he's not the best but he's functional.

I prefer him 2HD with Cass tanking though. They're beasts together.

Solas weaknesses with the rift mage spec serves me best. And it's usually Dorian on the floor when I have the two of them. Solas also does a lot more damage plus his mana regen gets hilarious.

For me Blackwall was neigh unkillable. He'd be the ultimate tank...if I didn't want to throw him into a damn lava pit.

Lol maybe the AI just doesn't like Blackwall XD

Same. With Death Siphon, I'm not sure how Solas can be more durable than Dorian.

I rarely use Bull, I remember someone on a stream calling him a  glass warrior or something. High damage dealer but fragile as hell. I did take him to the Dragon fight only cause I heard of the after cut scene. Then he died  in like the first few shots and the rest of the team wiped not too long afterwards and I was left to solo the Dragon(Knight Enchanter).  So when I got the cut scene and Bull is bragging about killing it my Quizzy was like

You'd think that I did.

Funny thing is, when I started having his problem, I actually traded gear with him -- my crafted gear made from rare materials for his inferior looted gear.  It still didn't help.

So weird.

By the end game, my Blackwall is literally untouchable.  But so far I am only playing on Normal.  =]

I will progress to Hard next playthrough.

He's got a shield, right? The two handed AI is so bad that you'll be a potion black hole no matter what your spec is, in my opinion.

So I was looking for Dorian's take on the romance and found this.

http://youtu.be/QTCXJBx-DZ0

The first half is Dorian talking about the relationship, and after listening to it, I feel better about it. I never thought it was abusive, and my concern was Dorian's embarrassment and discomfort which apparently seems to come from the fact that Bull is a Qunari and not really from the way Bull treats him.

"My ancestors are officially turning over in their graves."

Makes sense since his father's lack of acceptance hits him so hard.

Or at least that's what I got from listening.

Wow.  That bit of dialogue definitely makes me see the relationship in a different light.  Dorian is the one who makes the Ferelden beer "slumming it" style quotes.  He's definitely coming across in that dialogue as being embarrassed because Bull is a crude qunari "savage" and not because he feels disrespected by Bull.  The ending dialogue, where he's happily staying behind to be with Bull, is also telling.  He sounds genuinely excited about that prospect based on his tone.

Hard is my go to setting as well. Solas definitely has better mana regen than Dorian (which is unfortunate since Horror is super expensive comparatively), but I've never seen that transfer into better durability.

Weird maybe my Dorian AI is just dumb. Because he's usually the one dying and Solas is off minding his business. And I have them both set to follow themselves with their escapes set to preferred so it's not different AI settings.

I've always had a much easier time with Solas than Dorian. (I only started switching Solas out because I wanted to hear different banter but at this rate I'll just put Solas back in my party and swap Dorian for Cole so I can hear something new).

The only issue I have with Solas is the stacking weakness bug. He doesn't play nicely with Cassandra with it :(

At first I thought that was the exact problem.  I did have him using a two-hander for a little while, just to test it out with Champion (it was quite lackluster, as you say).

But respeccing him back into a Champion / S&S hybrid and reequipping him with sword and board doesn't seem to mitigate the massive damage he takes at all.  Like Sandal said, he should be every bit as untouchable as my Inquisitor.  I'm utterly dumbfounded.

It's frustrating that my double-Champion party isn't working out nearly as well as I thought it would.

That's really odd. I spec him Champion/Shield/Vanguard and he's literally unkillable as other people have said. My only other thought would be to check the shield/armor you've given him. Sometimes they'll have awesome states but a weakness to something hidden in the effects. The other day I thought I found an OP shield for Cassandra, but when she started dropping like a fly. Turns out it had a weakness to both magic and ranged attacks.
