I have the same problem as Shark, my Blackwall is a potion addict, but when I use Cass. she just doesn't die

Cass is a beast man. Once she hit lvl 6 in my game she became a damn freight train.

You're not using something with Beserk on it are you? That would cause you to drop like a rock.

I don't think so since Blackwall is using entirely crafted gear that belonged to my Inquisitor, and I make it a point to not put Berserk on anything for that reason...but it's worth investigating the next time I hop in the game.  Maybe it's on an upgrade or something that I've been overlooking.

That's really odd. I spec him Champion/Shield/Vanguard and he's literally unkillable as other people have said. My only other thought would be to check the shield/armor you've given him. Sometimes they'll have awesome states but a weakness to something hidden in the effects. The other day I thought I found an OP shield for Cassandra, but when she started dropping like a fly. Turns out it had a weakness to both magic and ranged attacks.

Yeah, I'm no fan of BW but he is a damn fine tank. Cass is still number one IMO but BW ain't going down unless something is wrong. Just like with Varric, I couldn't keep him alive to save my life until someone mentioned that I should at least get the first three skills on the stealth tree. He'll still die if hit hard enough but he'll stay alive much longer.

Yeah because Blackwall is just...the wall. I may want to throw him into a volcano but dude can tank like a champ (that wasn't a pun on purpose I swearz).

 

Edit: ugh that moment where I get 20 hours in and want to remake my character's face. I need a face export. Gabby looks great but I hate his decisions...and my Red is the opposite. *cries*

Yeah shes been my main tank sense the start. She talks a big game and plays one too. Maybe I just need to re-spec Blackwall and try with him again. I like him, I want to use him, but my potions won't make it to the end of a cave if I do.

Thanks for the advice.  Once I hop into the game again, I'm gonna strip that man and pick through every piece of his equipment.  It has to be something.  I really want to fix this problem because Blackwall is one of my favorite companions -- which is the theme of this current Nightmare party I'm running, and it's frustrating that he's made of glass with the low DPS of a tank.

Yeah, my Cass has ungodly survivability, too.  I really should use her more often.

Same. I usually use Cassandra because I like her character better, but I've got no issues with him from a game play stand point. Although, I never use Varric because I've got no patience for upgrading Bianca and because I think the DW AI is even worse than the 2H.

I have Bull as my tank with a bunch of reaver skills, along with a bunch of guard on hit and guard on getting hit on his gear. I play on nightmare difficulty, and him and my knight-enchanter are literally immortal and can solo everything. Once I got Cole some guard on hit on his bow he does a lot better now too, but poor Dorian is constantly getting his ass eaten by dragons whenever I fight them haha.

 

My knight-enchanter and Bull can just live forever though. Plus the upside of having Bull as a tank, is if you manually control him long enough that his HP goes down to low, and then build up his guard and let him go, he's a monster when it comes to DPS.

 

On topic:

 

Iron Bull: You know Dorian, if you keep protesting so loudly, people are going to start to think that you don't actually want to be with me.

Dorian: G-Good! I don't know what makes you think I'd want your dirty quinari hands all over me, anyways.

Iron Bull: Oh?

Dorian: Or that I'd want to...be anywhere near that big, muscled chest. Positively savage, the way you flex and strut...

Iron Bull: So you didn't like it last night, when I was --

Dorian: *cuts off Iron Bull* When you kissed me with that crude, vulgar mouth? Or when you...oh...

Inquisitor: *blushing furiously* For Maker's sake! Don't make me turn this Inquisition around!

 

Alright Bioware. Add this as a banter line to the game, and it will make it very clear that Dorian's protesting is because he's sleeping with a savage quinari brute instead of the high class prince he had always pictured himself with. Not because he's some kind of victim in some kind of abusive relationship. Happy to solve the problem for everyone!

It brings the lowest of low out of you. I am more polite on 4chan on average than I am on BSN. I blame demons and blood magic. The veil must be thin here.

 

 

On topic, I wish the companions actually move around Skyhold, and banter/interact with one another when Inquisitor is passing by. It doesn't make sense if Dorian and Bull are having a torrid affair, that one is cooped in a library under a bird nest, while the other one is constantly sliding down his chair while his second stands on his chair, holding a beer. Maybe if we see them interact in Skyhold, we'd get more concrete ideas on their characterization and feel closer to them. (And that I think it is totally unfair for people to walk in on me and Bull, but I can't walk in on Bull and Dorian. Or Solas and his 'friends' in the fade. Or... You get the gist.)

 

Right now I still feel closer to my DAII band of horrible friends than the folks of the Inquisition. Not enough characterization time?

I prefer Bull/Quizzy when I'm romancing him (obviously), but all other times I think they have just as much a right as my PC does to have a relationship. So on any other run I prefer Dorian/Bull... actually, I wish more non-romanced companions would hook up!  then we could all argue about our opinions of those, too!

I prefer Dorian and Quizzie, so by default that puts Bull with the tavern girls, I think.

IB/Fenris? Did you mean... IB/Zevran?

Actually, I do prefer adoribull to Bull/PC or Dorian/PC, but only slightly, and that's mostly because the PC can be anyone so it's not as cut and dry or "solid" as shipping NPCs, if that makes sense? I mean, objectively the relationship Bull and Dorian have with the Inquisitor is better by virtue of having more content, and we get a bird's eye view of what's going on there rather than just snippets of banter. And I do LOVE their romances on an individual level. But assuming the world was a magical place where IB/Dorian had romantic cutscenes like they get with the Inquisitor...

Or maybe I just like NPC/NPC relationships. I still think Carver/Merrill was the greatest thing ever, despite not getting any closure there.

Oh yes I'm not fond of him but I wouldn't wish him harm (nor would I punch him in the face like douche Quizzy does. That was harsh. Especially when you can just ask him to bounce.) Hopefully he'll find a nice rebel mage to help him with Tevinter.
