Combat Adept

The destruction of the Normandy did not leave Lee Shepard unscathed. Exposure to eezo from Normandy's engine activated dormant biotic nodes in his body and Lazarus project did not leave those unattended. In the six months following the Alpha Relay explosion his newfound biotic potential was honed and increased. The Reapers didn't know what they were getting in to...

The Build

Aggressiveness is the key with this build. Destroy enemies in quick and brutal outbursts. Highly damaging biotic combos with Warp, followed with a Cluster Grenade for tough enemies and suppressing fire from Mattock will keep enemies at bay. If they somehow manage to come close, Eviscerator lives up to its name.

Warp: Detonate, Expose, Pierce

Warp is one of your two "casted" powers. With the equipment and skills you have it takes about 9-10 seconds to recharge but when it's cast it grants a large boost to your combat effectiveness. It can detonate fire, tech and biotic explosions which destroy large enemy groups. If used as a primer, it increases damage taken by the target and staggers weaker enemies.

Cluster Grenade: Force & Damage, Max Grenades, Force & Damage

Cluster Grenades are for groups and boss encounters. The grenades do a tremendous amount of damage, especially when paired with Warp. They also don't suffer from slow power recharge speed this character has and are a great tool to have.

Biotic Mastery: Damage & Force, Damage & Capacity, Power Mastery

Focus is on power damage for more damaging Warp and grenades as well as capacity to offset Adept's pathetic starting carry weight limit.

Fitness: Durability, Barrier Recharge, Fitness Expert

Survivability. You need to be able to spend quite some time exposed while firing your weapon and the more you can do it, the faster you'll clear the area.

Barrier: Barrier Strength, Shield Recharge, Barrier Strength

Barrier again focuses on durability. Along with Fitness, equipment, Javik and Kaidan it allows to achieve the fastest possible shield recharge speed in the game.

Squadmates

As in my Melee Infiltrator, Javik and Kaidan are an ideal team for this character. Not only both their class powers improve shield recharge but they also work well together. Dark Channel, Warp and Reave all specced for barrier damage clear Banshee barriers in no time. I leveled Javik's Pull instead of Lift Grenades this time and used it as a replacement for Liara's Singularity.

Javik

Dark Channel: Damage, Recharge Speed, Pierce

Pull: Radius, Expose, Recharge Speed

Vengeful Ancient: Power Damage, Power Damage, Squad Bonus (Shield Recharge)

Kaidan

Reave: Radius, Recharge Speed, Barriers & Armor

Overload: Damage, Recharge Speed, Shield Damage

Alliance Officer: Durability, Biotic Damage, Squad Bonus (Shield Recharge)

Liara's Singularity is great early-on and is a decent way to stop Centurions in their tracks exposing them to your gunfire. Her second power was Warp Ammo, extra damage for Mattock never hurts.

Liara

Singularity: Duration, Recharge Speed, Detonate

Warp Ammo: Squad Bonus, Headshots, Damage

Pure Biotic: Recharge Speed, Duration & Force, Singularity Recharge

I did not use others much in this playthrough but a thing to remember is that Warp detonates all types of power combos (except Cryo) so squadmates with tech powers will work as well with yourself as biotics.

Equipment

Weapons:

Assault Rifle: M-96 Mattock (Thermal Scope + Piercing Mod)

Shotgun: M-22 Eviscerator (Shredder Mod + High Caliber Barrel)

Two guns from Grissom Academy, Mattock with Eviscerator, were the two guns I used through the entire game. Mattock was modded with Thermal Scope to counteract Cerberus smoke bombs and Piercing mod to deal with shields. Eviscerator got Heavy Barrel and Shredder mods.

Armor:

Helmet: Capacitor Helmet

Chest: Kassa Fabrication

Shoulders: Armax Arsenal

Arms: Armax Arsenal

Legs: Hahne-Kedar

Together this set gave me +20% shield regeneration speed, +20% weapon and +10% headshot damage.

I'm doing something very similar with my Justicar build. By keeping my loadout heavy it's not an explosion fest and by using Reave as my bonus I can take a small bit of extra punishment than an average Adept. By taking Javik along with his Dark Chanel we have got Biotic Explosions when we need them but the focus is more on shooting and DOT attacks.

The only issue I'm having is who else to take. Someone who can strip shields would be helpful, although I'm using the Hurricane for that but I really like Liara's Squad Warp Ammo against targets under biotic effects.

You can strip shields with biotic explosions. Not as tech-oriented but it gets the job done ;) I take Kaidan's Overload for that too.

Unfortunately Kaidan died :D Liara's Stasis is good too.

Using the Mattock along with the Hurricane has somewhat resolved my overlap issues with those two gun types. Saving the Mattock for armoured targets works for me.

Don't tempt me Frodo! I'm struggling staying with Samara's load out as it is.

Vaz, have you discovered the joys of "husk pushing" on Menae? Using the Adept's heavy melee is a joy.

I look forward to it. You know the barricade with the mounted gun? You can launch husks right over the horizon if you force push them in that section....

Darn it. Not sure if I will get around to watching these videos or not. I am currently hooked on Dragon's Dogma and spending all my free time (and then some) playing it.

Sounds somewhat interesting though. It reminds me I should finish my Shockwave/Claymore Adept at some point, if I can ever get around to playing Mass Effect again... but I feel the itch coming.

Soon...

Your set up favours damage over time biotic powers like Warp and Dark Channel over setting up biotic explosions, a nice way to make the Combat Adept engage in more combat. Why haven't you gone with Liara's squad Warp Ammo?

Very nice and a good idea. It can get a little repetitive  for the Adept I've found, (my own fault there I think) so it's nice to mix things up a bit.

I did something similar the last time I did an Adept trilogy run. But I went with the Vindicator and the Scimitar as a backup in 3. Because they looked like ME1 guns. And even though they nerfed the Vindicator I still like it, especially on caster type classes. It's relatively light and has a quick reload.

In ME2 I took AR training and used the Vindicator, which I always liked in 2. I took Warp Ammo as Bonus Power, although I did retrain once or twice and cheez Stasis for a mission or two, like the one on Sanctum against the two heavy mechs.

I'm finishing an Infiltrator run at the moment and can't decide whether to do an Adept or Vanguard next time.

I love the variety we are giving to the biotic classes, like my Vanguard-Sniper.

My only concern as a console gamer is that we don't have 3 activated powers to use (only Warp and Cluster Grenades). I consider Barrier as a sustained power so the Y-Button on my xbox controller feels left out. :S

Not enough points yet :) I went for Singularity since it provides very useful crowd control. Warp ammo will certainly be beneficial and it will be the second leveled power. I think, I'm going to use Kaidan for the rest of the game though, a combination of him and Javik is amazing. You'll see in the next video :)

Vindicator is actually quite good, especially if shooting from cover. In fact, pretty much every weapon can be viable. Sure, high level weaponry surpasses low level by far, but given that the enemies remain the same throughout all the game, even low level weapons can last you for the entire game. There was only one fight that I didn't manage to complete with my Immersion Engineer - Spectre level opponents at Armax Arena with all modifiers except higher damage (a masochist in me approved lol :D

Adepts are cool, low weight capacity makes it quite challenging. Assuming you don't aim for power combo fest, which you can also get :)

I map character powers. Up until the Citadel Coup I had Javik's Dark Channel mapped as the third activated power and used squadmate attack button for Liara's Singularity. After that I'll likely use multiple extra powers, namely Reave and Overload from Kaidan as well as Dark Channel + Pull from Javik.

As for biotic classes, I got an idea recently about maximizing Dark Channel damage over time. Tactical Cloak with bonus power evolution + 50% Power Damage from armor + 30% Power Damage from Pistol Power Magnifier + 25% damage from Operational Mastery rank 6 + 35% from intel bonuses. Combined with Javik's own Dark Channel it should melt enemies (in theory) :)

I've been looking at this, and was wondering if this would work with a Sentinel?

Already got the Tech Armor, Warp and Grenades. Bonus power I'm thinking, Defense Drone. I'd add Overload, this way, I can do the entire game with Liara and Javik.

Guns would be, Revenant and, I'm thinking, the Wraith. I'd have to do a NG+ I'm on a PS3.

I'll miss James and Kaidan...(sniff)

The challenge with the Adept is the Shields. I know I'm having a tough time with the Cat 6 guys (Citadel DLC) I've been Warping and Throwing. Then Singularity. And, another Throw for good measure. It's those Disruptor Drones and Grenades that bug the crap outta me.

Anyhoo, it's just a thought.......

It should work just fine, you might end up missing shield recharge bonus from the Barrier though. Tech Armor has power damage instead. Overload is not needed if you can land a decent amount of shots on the target. Warp, Dark Channel and Singularity all stagger shielded targets allowing you to land easy headshots and drop their shields. That's why I went for Mattock, Revenant has quite noticeable spread and other rapid fire weapons don't pack enough punch to quickly bring down shields (not counting DLC weapons, of course). If you do want some way to deal with shields directly, Energy Drain can work pretty well by replacing Barrier's shield recharge passive by an activated effect.

You'll also miss some power damage bonuses from class power.

Hmmmm......

What if I dropped Tech Armor and went with Barrier?

I noticed what you meant about the Revenant. Mattock might be better.

Then drop Defense Drone and go with, Energy Drain. Since those are bonus powers, I'd have to figure out something different for shields. But, I'll keep in mind what you described using, Singularity.

I saw a part of the video on Mars. I noticed you started a new game. That's easy enough for me. :D

Don't have to do NG+

And, I'm derailing your thread......Don't mean to.

Sorry!

Sorry!

It should help, especially since you plan to take Liara (you lose another shield recharge bonus from Kaidan's class power).

Liara's squad Warp ammo should be quite helpful.

And it's fine, if you want to discuss it more, feel free to post it here, or send me via PM :)
