After Inquistion I really find Leliana to be the character I like the least...

Or she was just pretending to act a certain way in Origins to get the Warden to trust her. Because, you know, she's a bard.

It's more complicated than that though she herself actually believes it.

If she's softened she thanks the Inquisitor for catching her before she fell over the edge.

If she goes psycho she says she just deluded herself.

My problem with Leliana is not that she can disobey a direct order if she's been hardened(though I find the circumstances leading to that to be stupid, for reasons I've gone over in other threads). My problem is that she suffers no consequences for it. We can't reprimand her in anyway for blatantly disregarding our direct orders and ignoring our authority.

I don't mind that she can display agency beyond simply doing what we tell her. I mind that I don't have the agency to react to it.

No I adore leliana but then I hardened her in dao, and her hardened inquisition version is a natural extension of that imo.
She still has her personal side, a love of bugs, a warden love, a love of fashion etc but she's also got a cause. She was always a bard, so being in a role that makes use of those skills is a perfectly reasonable development. Softened seems a reasonable development from origins too imo.
She's not my inquisitor's lover or friend, she's their spymaster. That is a completely different relationship. It's the same when I hear people complain about Varric not being their best buddy, failing to realise that the protagonist has a different dynamic with the character.

I still like her quite a bit.. one of my favorites in DAI.

I always found her sincere in any given moment, and that she meant well in DAO..

but she lacks enough strong foundations to settle on who she is. She follow other people's lead too much. I blame Justinia for her current behavior. I sure as hell didn't cause it as the Warden (or at least, my preferred Warden).

I don't see the big shift that other people see. Nothing she does in Inquisition is outside what i thought her capable of.

If you encourage her to be a ruthless assassin o at least don't try to derail her from that path; surprise, surprise, that's what she becomes.

She still speaks of compassion towards others and the ideal of a world of equals.

Leliana was very distant talking to the inquisitor at Haven...and at first at Skyhold.

But I found if you keep on the unhardened path with her and say positive things to her...she mellows...I even got several smiles from her so Leli can be more or less the cute girl of DA:O.

And I love her still :D

I'm not very keen on how Leliana is written in DA:I.

I mean, there's all the hardening stuff which I've talked about before so I'll just stick to saying I didn't think it was done very well.

But also for the rest of the game she's just rather boring.  I mean, I complain about psycho-Leliana, but at least then she's interesting.  Otherwise when she interacts with the protagonist she's either being angsty in a very standard way, or she's being a handy plot device, there just aren't enough occasions when she shows real personality.  I mean, you can say that it makes sense because of her job and the stuff that's happened, but the game must take place over like a year, so it's not like she can really be nothing but moody spymaster for every moment, and other characters who have similar heavy stuff (like Cassandra and Cullen) going on still manage to have scenes and conversations that aren't just the same moodiness.

Oh, and the occasional romance dialogues just come across as tacked on and make very little sense with her general demeanour.

Contact Hero of Ferelden. The Warden will send the Inquisitor a letter which reads:

if Warden romanced Leliana:

I have also included a note of a personal nature for Leliana.

I was not there for the death of Divine Justinia, but I know it will have hurt her terribly. While her wits and her skill are amazing, Leliana's greatest strength lies in her faith, and to have Justinia die strikes at her very core. I beg you, if she is faltering, help her find her way back to the light.

I've never liked her, and I don't like her now. She's always come across as either preachy or whiny.

That being said, she's still preferable to Vivianne or Sera.

I disliked how bendable her opinions were to the player's will, she felt like a fantasy naivé girl ready to be formed per expectations. I romanced her in DA:O because she was only FF option and kept her unchanged because I like when characters have certain autonomy over themselves.

She is much better in DA:I, probably more in line with what she said she used to be prior to events in DA:O. When you ask her to do something, it is not like "Yes, my master" but she gives more real reply "Well, for sake of our work relationship, I can effort this one".She felt like her own person.

I regret she is not Divine in my playthrough. At least, my Warden will be quite happy with her new semi-hardened attitude :).

She started to creep me out. In Origins I killed Leliana and defiled the Urn of Sacred Ashes. When I first started Inquisition, she started on about how she had risen from the dead, she didn't know why, etc. Spooky stuff. Then when you combine that with her hardened personality and her tendency to go stabby stabby at the drop of a dime ... that's one scary lady.

While she's a very different person in Inquisition I can sort of accept that transition on the grounds that it's been some years (10 I think?) since the events of Origins and her transition to ruthless spymaster was probably very gradual. She likely kept crossing the line bit by bit until it had moved much farther than the old Leliana would have allowed. She's also clearly grieving for her mentor/BFF the divine J Dog.

That being said I agree that she's just become a very...unpleasant person.

At the same time her hardened version is just so far away from whom we knew in Origins that her transformation seems completely unbelievable and unlikely. From a sweet and faithful person she turns into a ruthless witch - worse than Morrigan used to be when they first met with Leliana. At the same time she is still trying to convince herself and everybody else that she is doing this for greater good. Come on, really?

Leliana had been a bard for years prior to going to the Lothering Chantry. Orlesian bards are assassins and spies, and as an agent of some aristocrat(s) playing the Great Game Leliana has no doubt done some awful stuff. In DA:I her ruthless turn wasn't so much a sudden shift as it was her returning to old form.

In DA:O she even admits to having used sex as one of the tools of her trade. She doesn't say whether the times she did that was to gain intelligence or to set up a mark for assassination (or both), but if it was the latter it's hard to imagine anything more ruthless. That's some Black Widow sh-t.

The main difference between Leliana in DA:I and her pre DA:O life as a bard, is that her personality comes off as more dark & brooding. But that's likely a symptom of being depressed. She's in deep mourning over Justinia and questioning her faith. But the ruthlessness is nothing new. You're just getting a glimpse of the life she used to live as a bard. Justinia appointed her as Left Hand not just because she had been pious or loyal, but because she had a good resume. It was a field Leliana was experienced in.

I thought Leliana had one of the best character arcs in the franchise.  It's no wonder the devs decided to feature her so prominently.

Seriously, how can Leliana be considered the worst character in the game, when you have the likes of Sera, Vivienne and Dorian running around?

Vivienne is one of the best characters Bioware created for DA.
