Am looking for the most easy dragons to defeat.

Have done three of them:

- The Hinterlands;

- Crestwood;

- Wastes (this was not done on purpose, but I was doing the Tomb of Fairel quest and stumbled on it).

Which two or three should I go for now?

Playing on hard and not using any broken powers.

All of them, really, once you have the gear for it and understand their tells.

I think the two Electricity Dragons (Storm Coast, Exalted Plains) are probably the only ones I had trouble with (unless soloing) because of their lightning AoE (they cast a debuff on the party that damages you and your party members if the blast template overlaps, you need to spread out until it can be dispelled or cleared).  And specifically the one in Exalted Plains because it electrifies the water at certain intervals.  Soloing them mitigates this problem though.

The Emerald Graves dragon was my first one. And I think he's the lowest level one too.

The electric dragons are likely the hardest ones, due to the annoying fields they spawn.

The frost ones are likely the easiest for your level, fire is mid tier difficult.

But as said before, all of them become easy with the right gear and party setup.

I'd say emerald graves since it's most likely to stand and fight (compared, say, to the hinterlands dragon that shells you with fireballs for 2min while summoning a never ending stream of dragonlings... And that's before the actual dragon fight begins)

Emerald Graves is it then.

Thank you all for your input!

If you killed the Hinterlands dragon and you weren't awfully over leveled for it, you should be able to kill of them as long as you are an appropriate level for each encounter. That dragon moves around much more than any other (with the platform things) and the adds can be a pain.

As people mentioned, besides the basic mechanics that apply to all dragons (tail lash, wing flap, claw, breath, fire/cold/electric balls) the only special behaviors to watch are:

  1. The lightning debuff from lightning dragons. You can dispel it if you're quick, or simply make sure none of your characters are standing inside another character's circle (it's fine if the circle overlap slightly, as long as nobody stands on someone else's circle).
  2. Lightning dragons on water. They sometimes electrify the water, so don't stand in it.
  3. The adds. Kill them fast.

AS long as you're not under leveled you'll probably be fine, since you already killed 3 of them.

I kept track as I was going through them and at the start I specced each of the mages to an element Dorian=Ice, Solas=Electric and Vivienne=Fire.
It wasn't a pre-emptive thing but it worked out great for the dragons.

To be fair the Hinterlands one took me a few attempts but it was my first one and I probably didn't have optimal gear. Once you have the right resistances on your gear they become pretty easy.
The electricity dragons gave me no trouble at all, besides the bad AI of team mates wit hthe afore mentioned electric fields.

I'd say the only Dragon that put up a good fight after the first one was the Highland Ravager in Emprise Du Lion, I think it's level 21 or 23.
I was missing two mages so only had Dorian, which was good as he was ice to it's fire, however I could have done with a 2nd mage to keep barriers and heals up since Sera was a poor stand in.

I'd suggest taking Cassandra and Dorian for most battles, according to my list there's only 2 dragons each they weren't present for, haha

I'm pretty sure Western Approach is the easiest after Hinterlands and Crestwood. It's the lowest level, anyway.

If you've done the Hissing Wastes one, then you've already defeated one of the harder ones.

If you're trying to do them in order of difficulty, then I'd say go Western Approach, then the others in any order, ending up in Emprise du Lion.

imo, dragons that does not summon adds are the easier ones with the exception of the Hinterland dragon, she is easy.

Exactly

And there'splenty of protection to obtain.

I made a mistake and waited until very late in my last playthrough taking down the dragons. It is no fun at all then.
Its like stepping on an ant. They are too easy, and you feel sorry for them.

My advice is to enjoy the hard battle with the dragons, even if you die a couple of times. The only good enemies are those you respect.

This, I fight dragons as I encounter them as long as they don't over-level me by too much.  I first found the Ferelden Frostback at level 5, I ran screaming.

The worst are the ones that summon adds, other than that just know the resistance and weakness and, for the electricity ones, use resistance tonics if you don't want to micro manage your team.

Luckily, once the blast template thingy starts it can be dispelled, I was usually able to quickly have my mage dispel it off of them and the archer next to them, while my tank used payback strike to clear it and my rogue used upgraded stealth to clear it.

I'd say either Crestwood or the Western Approach ones make good choice for the first dragon. They're level 13-14, don't summon any adds, don't fly around or have any annoying moves. The Western Approach dragon applies guard to herself, but between Shield Bash, upgraded War Horn and the Knight-Enchanter's blade that thing breaks *fast*.

lol, I did the same, level 5 or 6.
I usually ran into Dragons that way over levelled me. The first electric dragon was like that but was still a really easy fight for me.

As fo rmicro managing, the only time I had to do that Emprise Du Lion with the fire dragon there. For some reason Dorian and Sera both wanted to pet it and kept constantly running in.

It's the process, not the goal that makes the wheel spin around.

If you could kill a dragon with one shot: Where's the fun?

Crestwood dragon is the easiest.

The Hinterlands dragon is the lowest-level dragon in the game, but she's also extremely agile and the fact that she throws her goons at you over the course of the fight makes for a bit of a challenge.

Yeah, I suspect whoever claims that dragon is the easiest is purely looking at it level-wise. I'd even say that for a level 13 PC. the western approach dragon (14) might even easier than the hinterlands one (12)

Guide to mopping up dragons after Skyhold:

1) Get Blackwall equipped with one-handed weapon and shield. Invest into SnS damage reduction passives, To The Death (upgraded) from the Champion tree, some magic defense or the relevant resistance tonic. Make sure he always faces the Dragon. If Dragon has add-ins get somebody who can quickly burst them down.

2) ...

3) Profit.

Thank you all for your tips. It was very much appreciated.

Have killed all but one now; the one in The Western Approach. Apparantly I have to find some kind of feather first, but the marker points me to a hazerdous place which kills me when entering.

Have done all quests in The Western Approach, there is nothing to do on the wartable and I have finished the main story. Really have no idea what I'm supposed to do to get the required feather.

And I might be wrong, but isn't the Dragon in the Exalted Plains one of the most easy ones? He didn't summon pets and he also never used guard when I was fighting him.

There should be a point somewhere nearby where you try to enter the poison mist from the road (not from the fortress the first time) to get a wartable mission to build a bridge, there will also be another point where you have to build more, this one you get from approaching from the fortress.

You can't really finish the Western Approach until you do those, there's a pretty sizable region beyond the poison springs.

The Plains dragon is also fairly easy (as long as you keep your team from standing in the water) but she's bit higher level (17 iirc) May be good choice for 3rd/4th kill, along with the Emerald Graves one.

The feather required for the Western Approach dragon drops from one of the mobs you'll encounter before that place you can't enter. Either from phoenixes or the other type that roams around there.

Will look around, but already got to the other side (had to get my shards and finished the Temple today with all shards collected).

As nine out of ten slain, is something I don't want as a completionist, I'll try to find a spot which will trigger the wartable operation.

Thank you very much!

Will be killing some mobs tomorrow then. Thanks for the info.
