...the controls, man. Why the **** doesn't my character continuously attacks when I do left click or right click on an enemy? Why is the "Pause" button way better than that HORRIBLE "Tactical Mode" camera? Why can't I reassign anything to buttons so important as the mouse right click, or the wheel button click?

And it's me or the characters just "forget" the orders you've told them while in Pause button? I'm relying mostly in automated tactics to get things done, and in Hard difficulty, I'm afraid I'm gonna get mauled in some point of the story if I can't manage it manually.

Am I doing something wrong? (PC here, obviously).

LOL.  It isn't just you.

Go look at the feedback, news/announcements or combat section of the forums.

We feel your pain. As a PC player whose first game was as a DW rogue...   :pinched:

FYI

You can't issue commands outside of Tactical-Cam -- it's been well documented for months that this game is a disaster for PC gamers who want to play Inquisition like a traditional Dragon Age game.

The only way to enjoy it is to play it the way it was intended -- with a controller.

Yeah, because strategy and RPG games who require tons of mapped buttons have always been intended to be played with a controller.... ¬¬

Go try to start a platform flame war elsewhere

He wasn't trying to start a flame war. The fact is that they make controllers for PC, but not keyboards for consoles(even if they did, people still opt for the controller). Since Bioware got purchased by EA, all of their games have been designed to be playable on consoles, with PC gamers oftentimes as an afterthought.

My first play-through was with a Dual-wielding rogue.  And yes, this game does require a bit of micromanagement. I however have managed to beat it on hard. Although I was level 22 when I did it.

It's still a RPG, no matter that fact.

Anyway, I'd be happy just if "Assigning the Inquisitor to launch a basic attack on someone" wouldn't just make him do a slash on the enemy, then stand right there like an &%$# not doing anything else.

I use KB&M; simply re-map the control keys to ones familiar to yourself on the KB. Also check Options for other settings of preference; Gameplay has one for Tac-Cam Mouse Control, I believe.

Practice the Tac-Cam in the tutorial area for a while. Issue orders from Tac-Cam for longer durations, esp Hold, and Fire on Same Target.

Play around with Tactics and Behavior; recommend lowering Mana/ Stamina restrictions to 30%, and Potion required to 20%. Also have Ranged NPC's follow the Warrior of choice for Targeting; has been helpful for my game.

Just now I used that Tac-Cam to set an ambush on a Pride demon. The thing was to go alone and lure him out from a large group of enemies, then maul him in a safe zone where the rest of my squad were standing. Divide and conquer. A sound strategy, no?

Only that the rest of my squad got magically teleported to me as soon as the combat began.

Seriously, I literally feel that executing strategies with this game is like rubbing your hands onto a bag full of broken glass.

As far as I'm concerned no auto attack is a pain on controller to. I was glad it was quickly patched in DA2 and baffled they did it again considering the scolding they got when the DA2 demo got out. Either they do not learn from their mistakes or they are set on this as being good gameplay, ugh...

Perhaps the Behavior is set to Follow or Defend the Controlled Character or Inquisitor. I have read where setting certain NPC's to Follow themselves makes for increased independence; seek confirmation. Also setting defensive Tactics to Preferred appears to be helpful.

Again, play around with the new mechanics. While I also prefer the past AI commands and settings, the new systems are still better than what I have experienced elsewhere; tend towards non-Party play as a rule.

LOL The same thing happened to me today. It wasn't a pride demon, but a rift. I had all my people lined up properly in a safe alcove and then sent my Inquisitor to lure some of the stronger enemies away so I can fight them without the annoying wraith's attacks.  Surprise on me when my whole party materialized behind me once the battle began.

Don't worry, you'll breeze through hard.  The game is easy, I gave up on trying to control my companions and just play this like an action Rpg, and now on lvl 15 me and my companions mostly just roflstomp everything.

Met one of the companion side story baddies yesterday and killed him in 3 seconds.....and I was like...oh...anticlimatic....the fight is over, I just managed to cast one firemine and a chainlighting and the fight was over, so don't you worry about difficulty.

Yes. It's not clear to me if your post is asking for a different UI scheme altogether or if there's some workaround to get the result you want. Which I think is someone with the zoom of the action camera, auto-attack, no pause, and all tactics and behaviours disabled on the party?

The first and most important thing is to set all follows to follow themselves (Cass to Follow Cass etc). In action mode the AI will do things on its own - you can override that without tactical camera.

The mouse and keyboard controls are antiquated- same as an early RPG from the days of DOS Shell and the first Windows. Fine by me but, I know I am the minority that learned to deal with that and, am still befuddle by a console controller.

Well, I'm just beginning and in the first combat outside introduction (Hinterlands) I almost got wiped out by lesser shades...that's where I started thinking that Hard was a bit too much for me. And after I got wiped out 5 times in a row by that Rift containing 2 Rage demons.....well, I decided to change to Normal.

I'm not even gonna pretend I've ever been good in the DA series. In the ME series, Insanity is Easy mode for me, and Medi-gel is just an extravagancy, but DA....I think I'll eat my humble pie and beat it in Normal :(

BTW...I bet I'm missing something, but...in some fade rifts I'm closing right now (Hinterlands), their difficulty are so easy I barely get hurt, while in others I'm getting my ass kicked badly by enemies like despair demons and greater terrors.

I'm doing that prior to continuing the main quest, as it's customary of me in all open world/RPG games. Am I doing it wrong, or that's Bioware's idea of "balancing a game"?

There are set lvls for Rifts, so this is appropriate. If you are getting spanked, retreat and plan an attack later when you have better odds. In the Hinterlands, there is at least one Rift with 12th lvl demonic guardians, so be wary.

Overall, search and explore, then check your map to see where these unmarked boundaries actually restrict progress. Then you have the options with enough Power to explore other areas, or open additional stories on the War Table. Orlais is planned for 4-7th, but can be explored thereafter, too. Recommend returning to Haven often; speak with your new followers, even those that are minor characters to discover little nuggets of info and details of Thedas. And continue to enjoy it!

Well, glad to hear it. My ego was starting to drop to....uncomfortable levels :/

So far I've got only 3 rifts in the Hinterlands I can't currently close (I think I've already tempted fate enough by closing one with a Rage demon at lvl 4), so I'll leave them for later and focus on misc. missions in the Hinterlands and Ferelden. Probably won't go to Orlais until I finish them...if I can finish them, of course :P Or at least until lvl 7 (currently 5).
