I was wondering if Falcon with Cryo Ammo would work similar to Avalanche from ME2. I mean, if the area of effect of its grenades will freeze or chill enemies even if the grenade itself would not hit the target. I've tried that effect with some weapons in Armax Arena, and the only one I could make this work was Krysae Sniper Rifle. I haven't got the chance to try with Falcon because you only get this weapon in Assault to Cerberus Headquarters and I haven't got to play my second playthrough yet.

Thanks for your attention,

The Avalanche didn't have an AOE though, did it?

I'd say the closest you could get in ME3 (from the mechanics) is either the Krysae or the Chakram launcher (-> I believefully charged shots apply ammo effects everytime, but haven't tried this in more than a year).

If you want to freeze multiple targets, the Acolite, Venom and Falcon and also Krysae are better than the Chakram (I believe it does no area priming).

For single target Application, the Chakram (presumably) as well as the Talon and Viper work very well.

Chakram, Krysae and Falcon -projectiles all have a noticeable travel time (in descending order this way).

In this order, their Area of Effect gets bigger (I believe, not sure if the Falcon's aoe is really bigger than the Krysae's).

Chakram and Krysae fire in a straight line, while the Falcon's projectile has a noticeable drop and bounces around.

Avalanche has an AoE. You can freeze multiple targets and/or strip multiple protections.

Scorpion doesn't freeze multiple enemies since the ammo effect only applies to the enemy which the grenade is attached to. The following explosion will damage nearby enemies but not freeze them. It's the same mechanic of sticky grenade. Haven't tried with acolyte though. Doesn't work with striker or chakram. I've tried.

For single target the slow the fire rate the better: viper, carnifex, saber, paladin etc.

Okay, I tried a few times with the Falcon with Cryo Ammo.

Soldier specced Cryo Ammo for Freeze Duration - Ammo Capacity - Freeze Chance. (Probably did not need freeze chance since it is a low rate of fire gun but whatever. It was just a quick test).

Tried it on N7: Cerberus Lab and N7: Cerberus Attack. Probably not the best missions to try it out on since I could not get the enemies to bunch up. I can try again later with an Infiltrator on Mars if I feel like starting a new game with an ME3 import.

But anyway, only twice did I manage to freeze multiple enemies at once with a single shot with the Falcon. Again, this was mostly due to how I could not get multiple unprotected enemies to bunch up in a tight enough radius to make it work, and sometimes I just shot wrong and the bullet bounced away. I usually try to bounce it off the floor into the enemy, so sometimes it bounced off a barricade or I missed the floor and I hit the enemy directly.

So it seems to work, but I would have to try it on a mission where enemies bunch up in tighter radius to see if it is reliable. Maybe some other time

I've tried also. With a New Game+ on my Iceman Infiltrator. Cryo Ammo with Squad Cryo Ammo + Headshot Damage + Freeze Chance.

I've done in the Grisson Academy mission. In the beginning you have to face 2 Assault Troopers alone. It's very good to make this test. I've ordered my squadmates to stay behind so they wouldn't interfere with the test. When the door open, I've pressed L1 to make tight aim and shoot a grenade to one enemy and manage to freeze the two targets with only one shot. I waited the guys to unfreeze and did it again. They both get frost with only one shot again.

I've played more loosely this mission and it seem to get work every time.

Changing the subject: One thing I've confirmed that is difficult (or even impossible) to get Cryo Explosion on chilled enemies. When I was facing the Atlas, I've shot it with Cryo Ammo, wait a few seconds and applied Overload and the Cryo Explosion did not occurred. I've tried this a lot of times with no success. I've tried that on Combat Engineers and Centurions with no success. I've shot, waited a few seconds, the enemy get to be covered in ice, although moving (so Chilled, not Frost) and then Overload it but no Cryo Explosion. In Multiplayer this works differently doesn't it?

Thanks again for all your attention.

AFAIK the only power able to prime for cryo explosions on chilled targets (aka anything with shields or armour) is snap freeze.

Neither cryo ammo nor cryo blast will do so.

I did some more tests:

- Chakram: It freezes the enemy that the grenade is attached to but not other enemies as the grenade explodes. So, doesn't have the AoE for freezing, just for damage.

- Scorpion: The same as Chakram.

- Acolyte: It has AoE. I've tested in the Grissom Academy (the best place to test, two assault troopers very close to each other and facing their back to you) One shot in one enemy, both of them got freeze.

- Talon: Because of the pellets similar to shotguns it has some AoE. I've tested in the Grissom Academy. One shot, two enemies frost. Meaning at least one of the pellets hit the other guy. The area seems to be very narrow though. It's hard to miss only one or two pellets. Either you hit the 3 of them or miss all of them completely.
