....And why or why not?

Who I would allow:

Humans...Have Military discipline and strength, follow protocol, work as a Team and understand and adhere to Rank and File.

Turians...Same as above, in fact more so.

Salarians...An Infiltration Unit, also adhere to Military discipline and protocol.

Drell...Hanar trained Infiltration Unit and sharp shooters.

Asari...Possibly, they have good Biotic Squads, but also shortcomings, are they able to withstand the discipline not to involve their more personal urges? And given the attraction other Species have towards them, would there be problems of distraction for the other Species?

Elcor...Possibly, from what I understand in ME3 the Elcor prove something of an effective Mobile Tank platform. Not enough information given though.

Batarians...They are not as strong as Humans and Turians, but they do understand and adhere to Military Protocol and Rank and File, I would add them.

Geth...Same as Turians, plus fast reaction time sharp shooters.

Who I would not allow:

Krogan...Too undisciplined and out of control, they are good Tanks but given their lack of Military discipline and temperamental behavior they pose too much of a threat to the integrity of the Ship and it's other Members.

Hanar...not Battle enabled, a weak link.

Volus...same as the Hanar.

Yahg...

Rachni...Great in Battle and could be well disciplined with a Queen present, but can they be trusted?

Quarians...In flight Battle their good...but as Elite Force ground Troops, they have too many needs and due to their fragility (suits and lack of immune system) they are a liability.

Vorcha...No discipline and out of control.

Protheans...Good Soldiers, have all that is needed, but I could not imagine them being prepared to take orders and direction from another Species.

Leviathan...They won't fit in a Ship... :P

I think that's every Species now.

If this was dead serious than I would allow or disallow any person of any species on my ship that would help me accomplish my goal.

But if I am not so serious about this I would not allow Vorcha, Batarians, Turians and Javik aboard for being too ugly: I only work with beautiful aliens - Salarians, Drell, Krogan and most Asari. Quarians got the benefit of the doubt...

I think it would be smart to go on a case-by-case basis HOWEVER if we were to go based on stereotype then Vorcha and Batarians are out because of a lack of respect for other life forms.  Krogan are super loyal as friends but blood frenzy and similar make them too dangerous to have around.

Basically if you would trust someone to have your back & keep your secrets they're in.  If you don't trust them then they're out -- simple as that.

In general. Hanar, Vorcha(cause they probably smell and they're mouth breathers), And Volus. I would say Rachni as well. But if I saved the Queen then she should know she owes me a life debt. But I think I would take things at an individual basis too. So I guess in theory anyone.

Ones I wouldn't have a problem with at all would probably be Turians, Drell, Krogan, Asari, and Quarian.

Javik wouldn't even be allowed near the bus stop to take him to the docking station.

I will have to judge each potential crew mate regardless of species. If they betray my trust, I will either throw them out of the airlock or use them as a test subject to test a new weapon.

They'd be good to have on board as crew though, no? Centuries of living aboard rusty old ships have made them into a race of expert jury-riggers. Ok, I generalise but a group of quarian technicians would be handy.

Well, for me it would depend on the individual; not their race, or species, or however you wish to label it.

Here is my preferred squad, though...

Who I would bring on the Normandy for Mass Effect 2...

Who I would bring on the Normandy for Mass Effect 3...

And you do not even want to know about who I would allow on the Normandy for Mass Effect 1.

Absolutely as Techperts on the Ship, they would be a tremendous asset, I don't doubt that ^_^ ...Though as ground Troop Combateers, not a good choice.

Girls are always overpowered; I shall steamroll my way through hostiles. That, and I am going to keep flirting with them until one of them gives into my semi-renegade ways.

I never gave it much thought, but it does seem like the most powerful allies Shepard ever gets on his/her squad happen to be female. I guess Wrex can be the exception, but krogan are hard to count.

Uhm uhm... Personal chemistry and personal abilities and skills.

The only real practical things... I can think off would be sorting people to different ships according to ie. the different aminoacid thingy mobob or atmosphere like for the volus, tho possibly that would not make much difference in the fighting skills of the volus without suits and suits is an improvement no matter what.

Since most species in the ME universe are basically just like humans (meaning they think like humans, have the same emotions as humans and the only thing that sets them apart is the exterior appearance and even that is pretty similar with almost all species. The only ones that don't work like humans are the geth prior to the upgrades and the Reapers) I don't see a reason to restirict a whole species from entering my ship. I'd have to decide individually for every person (no matter the species) if I want them specifically on my ship.

Hanar...not Battle enabled, a weak link.

Now you are just talking nonsense. Even Zaeed and his squad had trouble with a Hanar mercenary.

To make it short: Zaeed was the only one who made it out alive. Barely. You got to watch all those tentacles.

If Mass Effect was real then I wouldn't let anyone aboard my ship who wasn't a human or if I have to, I'll get a "specialist" who ensures loyalty from the non-human elements.
