I really don't care what species you are, as long as you are qualified to get the job done, and are compatible with the rest of the crew and myself. For those saying "Eww no Quarians/Batarians/Krogan!" you're eliminating a potentially talented crewmate just because of petty xenophobia.

I think this thread and most of the respondents are assuming that species == loyalty. You could just as easily have human Alliance crew members selling tech. You've no control whatsoever over the Turian's management of technology they helped to co-develop. Cerberus managed to build the SR-2.

The game does show us some cases where loyalty to Shepard (and the mission) is prioritized over one's own species. Mordin and Kirrahe along with some other STG personnel "defect" to support Hackett's efforts in spite of the Salarian Dalatrass withholding support. In ME2, Tali talks about a Quarian who was exiled for sharing technology with the Batarians, though her purpose for doing so was to contract some equipment. All those scientists and engineers from different species working on the Crucible amounts to a huge cross-species technology sharefest. Are you really going to worry about technological secrets when the fate of the entire galaxy is at stake?

OT: I'd allow volunteers on board on a case-by-case basis.
