The biggest issue for the OP seems to be that DA:I is that it's not the continued adventures of Warden and Love Interest.  Devs have stated time and time again that DA games are about the world of Thedas more that a single individual.  Take what closure they offer and let the damn Warden go.

As for everything else, I play on PC with KB&M and have no problems with the combat/controls. The main story is fine, no shorter than DA:O, the characters are interesting and engaging.  For $60 I have had hundreds of hours of fun so far, if that isn't value for money then I don't know what is.

- Bioware released Witch Hunt, fully knowing how they programmed it, 3 choices, the gate and export save game to.......DA2.

- instead Bioware decided to pull a 180, now its more for controllers, not PC anymore and Witch Hunt meant nothing.

I am a long time customer of Bioware games and not only the last 5 years.

Bioware dropped the ball, to try and make more money catering to the console controllers market.

Result, DA2 was a disaster......

DA:I is a step in the right direction, but not optimized for PC like they claimed in the interview and still very similar to DA2, which was a disaster.

What is happening today:

- short program cycles, 2 years? instead of 4 years?

- simplified gaming

- more hack and slash

- limited to what you can do

- not really linear anymore

- your choices didn't mean nearly as much as they led you believe

- more about sex with everyone now

- short storylines with poor sub quests

Quality is dropping for short term quicker profits. Great for the immediate short term, and bad for the long term.

copypasta :3

the good

+ crafting

+ huge world

+ visuals

+ complex characters

+ massive amount of quests

+ awesome cc

+ lore. LORE EVERYWHERE

the bad

- terrible m&kb support

- awkward tactical camera

- dumbed down AI

- little to no crowd control abilities (depending on class)

- technical bugs

- changing difficulty affects mostly hp pools

- RNG forces farming

- no NG+

the subjective

* how much it feels "this is what BG should look like, omg! /squee" - seriously, they somehow captured it here, not sure if intentionally

* no connection to player character, NPCs are more fleshed out than my toon and that... sucks

* too much meaningless dialogue (maybe that's because i'm a bit schizophrenic - reading in polish, hearing in english - would kill for english subs)

* no city hubs (where's my Crime Wave?! i want to patrol some streets/routes with Aveline or... something)

* cliche story/villain (i'm not counting the spoilery one bit - that was brilliant)

* lack of evil choices/dialogue options - this is a huge downside for me, those don't have to affect the plot much (like killing Ostagar prisoner and such)

* realtime agent missions (i hate it. i'm completionist and i hate everything that is meaningless and/or doesn't have any lore attached but has to be done only because there's an entry in journal/wherever)

* mage is probably the weakest class ever (excluding jedi)

* less skills to use, more passives - it would be awesome if those actually worked (Spirit/Lightning Rift Mage here)

i'm cursing the gameplay, currently in my NM PT. it's a breeze, i really hate how unchallenging it is. i know, i could do solo PT but combat with such bloated HP pools would only bore me.

i do love turn based games and the time it takes to come up with perfect strategy (the longer it takes the better - more fun for me), but action button mashing/using teribad tac cam is not my cup of tea - i cringe everytime battle in this game takes more than 3 minutes... ugh

conclusion

cool interactive movie in which you steer some existing dude/chick. if you want to play a RPG game tho - meh, 7/10

if the combat was done better (like... improved upon DA:O), this game would probably be the best game i've ever played - even if i'm bound by the narrative (no RP freedom, choices are meaningless in the long run and you are not allowed to be evil maniac)

If anybody is still thnking about buying the game on PC is still reading this:
Be ready to buy a controller in case you get fed up with keyboard controls.

I did (after my first playthrough) and it was definately worth the money.

Personally, I am all but incapable of using a controller; generally pass on games that recommend them. So taking the time for simply re-mapping the Options and control Keys for the KB was enough to avoid the frustrations seen posted hither & yon. For me, the controls now feel much like SWTOR; smoother than what I was able to play in the ME series. And practice with the Tac-Cam in the tutorial areas helped me adapt to the new controls.

Controller is not required.

The game is under a 33% discount at the moment. For the PC, it's worth to buy at that price... and hope for needed improvements.

I feel like the story telling, characters, codex, etc, is more immersive than the other games.  I feel like I was learning more and more about the history of Thedas throughout the game.  I felt more connected to the world of Thedas, than I ever have.

So from simply that perspective, the game is totally worth it.  The Dragon fights are totally worth it.  The Music is totally worth it.

The waves of the Storm Coast, The eerie bleakness of the Hissing Wastes, and the Beauty of the Emerald Glaves are totally worth it.

I prefer Gamepads myself, but I'm not console guy, always PC. Even played DAO with expadder profile and gamepad.  Just have never been a fan of playing with KB/M.  So this game is great for me.  So this could be the deal breaker, as the KB/M are attrocious.  The Controller is great honestly, I love the gameplay.

The tactics or lack of them is major disappointment, the Magic is a disappointment, and  Character building (no attribute control) is beyond stupid.  They tried to make it all about crafting, and the crafting is better than I've ever seen.  But no attribute leveling is a major mistake.

Frankly, it's not even the fact that this is a bad console port (and it is.. terrible. You want an example of a good console port see Shadows of Mordor).it's the restrictive UI, the TERRIBLE loot system (basically RNG which means you are farming for mats - THAT"S RIGHT, farming in a single player game), the lack of drama, the boring companions (but this is subjective), MMO style play, and the combat system

Since the main story is so short BW filled the game with many fetch/fedex/time sinks quests. Most have no barring on the actual story. If you like how WOW or ESO plays than you'll love this game.

You know, really, if this game didn't have the DA name or the BW logo I'd would never call it a BW game. But it is. And it seems that BW has changed. And that's ok. But I think it's time another studio takes the title of RPG leader.

Did I like the game. Yes. Did I love the game? No. Will it be on my hard drive for much longer? No. I STILL have DAO/2, ME1/2/3, and NWN1/2 on my drive.

I'd say this game is worth about $30. And I have a feeling you won't have to wait long before this game is on sale for 50% off. I regret pre-ordering the "Extended" edition. I spent $70 on this game! But I've learned my lesson.. never again will I pre-order.

I bought DA:I a short while ago, digital deluxe on sale for $45 CAD and its an okay game, not horrible by any means, but its not great either.

Running around closing rifts, hack and lash monsters, do a sub quest or two.....more rifts....more hack and slash monsters........more sub quests......

I am getting a bit bored of it to be honest and that grab and addiction of a great game I can't stop playing, DA:I is not that.

Maybe some patches will spice it up?

I have it on PC and play at 1600p which helps it look even better; not as good as my modded Skyrim, but good enough. This also allows me to use SweetFX, etc.

What amused me slightly (and annoyed as well) regarding the console is how, if I have my Xbox controller plugged into my PC, the game defaults to using the controller. All other games that support controller default to PC controls (keyboard/mouse) and let me choose. I had to unplug the controller to play this game with kb/m on PC.

Also, I rather like the Keep as it lets me choose decisions I made on past characters that no longer exist, especially as I've played DAO at least a dozen times since it was released. In short, the Keep lets me avoid replaying solely for the purpose of import. Also 10 years have passed in Thedas, as I recall, so not all of the things we did in the prior games will seem as big/important in the present world state.

Being completely new to the DA franchise with this game I was kinda baffled by the loads of bad reviews in this thread.

Personally I stuck about 70 hours into this game in a week, so that should say a bit about how much I was hooked.

Playing on a laptop I had no issues whatsoever with the PC port, I have no idea why so many people are disappointed here. The camera control feels smooth, the only thing thats really lacking is being able to zoom out a bit more.

It doesn't really play any better or worse than other recent console ports, being Assassins Creed or Shadow of Mordor.

Now one negative thing to point out is the cutscenes and character interactions in terms of animation are really lacking. Most characters (the races I tried) look ridiculous while walking and during a conversation there is really not much going on.

It felt like watching a conversation in Guild Wars 2, with two characters just staring at eachother and their mouths moving.

The artwork and graphics overall are stunning though, if your computer is recent enough to handle ultra graphics. There is literally nothing I have to complain about here, except for some ores looking rather awkward sticking out of walls.

Now as for gameplay experience you do not get a lenghty main story. It's not as ridiculously bad as Shadow of Mordor was, but it's still lacking for a RPG. As mentioned before you get bombarded with side quests and collections missions, most of which you wont come near to fulfilling if you dont look for a strategy guide.

The comparison to MMORPGs stands, but I wouldnt say its just as bad. The interactions between you and your companions make for a much more lively world exploration, especially if you switch them regularly, which you really should do to keep you interested.

I wont go much further into this since it seems like more knowledge from how Bioware handled the previous games is needed.

If you, or anyone, still seeks advice (after 4 pages...) I'd recommend waiting for a bigger sale to get this. The game WILL keep you well occupied for the 40€ its currently worth, but I do suggest waiting for a bit longer if you dont plan on replaying it a lot straight from the start (and the first map WILL prevent you from replaying it immediately.....).

I'd agree with above to wait until the game has reached about $30, sounds about right.

Yeah... too bad he doesn't mention the flaws.

I watched that and if I recall he does! At near end of review when he gives scores he says that PC version of DAI has problems.

This guy does a great review of DA:I........funny.

Not really, he barely mentions any problems with the game, he is such a fanboy really, that or he is being paid, a 9???? nah DA:I its not a 9 in a world with common sense.
