They call it knowledge perks, son.

(or by 'smart' they meant 'not nearly as retarded as Shepard' :P :P)

Call me a little old fashioned here, but I daresay my elf character should not need to take special studies with Leliana or Josephine to understand who the elven gods that she was raised worshipping actually are.

Either way, yes, that was considered an oversight or a bug, at least in terms of "who are Mythal."

This is why I can never bring myself to play an Elf in this game. It is clear that for 99% of the time, you are seen as a human. You only have the knowledge of a human, and you act like a human.

The fact that a Dalish character has to ask about Dalish history, or can't understand elvish, shows that it was tacked on late in production, most likely because they intended Hawke to be the Inquisitor originally.

That's like a dwarf born into royalty in Orzammar asking what a Shaperate is....Oh wait...

I think you're getting the wrong idea from the thread. There is one instance in the Temple of Mythal which is probably a scripting error. IMO there are far more elf-appropriate responses in this game, and they blend more seamlessly, than in Origins. Your PC understands some elvish (just not ancient elvish inscriptions) and will speak it in certain situations. Occasionally you have to work around Andrastians assuming you being Herald means you believe in the Maker, but these too are rare instances.

Also, I re-read the portion in The Stolen Throne where Loghain and Maric are captured by Dalish elves, and they're all speaking elven. The First tells them that they speak elven in camp and though most speak "the king's tongue," the only ones who use it regularly are those who trade with outside settlements.
