So somehow I've managed to lose both the writings required for mage specialization on rift magic and becoming the knight-enchanter. I know I picked both of them up from Viv and Solas. I don't know if the researcher nabbed them on me when I went to turn things in, or if they poofed when my inventory was overloaded by Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts, or by some fluke I managed to sell them by accident (unlikely, but why the hell they'd be sellable is a mystery to me).

 

Nevertheless, when I had everything else, I realized I no longer had the writings.

 

They're not back with Viv and Solas. I checked the only vendor I ever sell stuff to (in the undercroft). So I went to Val Royeaux as quest suggested to buy one or the other. Checked every vendor (twice), and no dice, the book vendor does *not* sell them. So... I can't specialize? I'm not terribly interested in necromancy.

Forget it; I finally figured it out but it's a glitch and clear as mud. When you look at the quest (pc version), the item is greyed out as if you don't have it. If you look in your inventory, you can't see it. But if you head to the requisition table and try to craft the item (like the spirit blade handle) that you need, surprise! It's there.
