Yes i know. Its a silly idea. The elementalist is the harbinger of fiery destruction, who can still utilise barrier AND deal magical mayhem so there's no need to focus on support.

And i agree.

However, the idea was inspired by my Keeper. She is ridiculously awesome, and fills her role.

Also, I've yet to see anyone speak of it or the possibility of such a character, so I've decided to try it out.

Planning to map the following abilities (all upgraded)-

Winters Grasp

Fade Step

Barrier

Ice mine

I severely doubt the support elementalist will ever live up to the awesomeness that is the Keeper, but hopefully this will inspire others to experiment with characters who have builds that typically have little variance in them.

I will report back on my findings and look forward to the great build crafters and possibly people who may have already tried the build.

Happy New Year to everyone :)

*Edit* renamed title to better suit the winter spell selection, and to reflect the opposite nature of my usual ele build fire vs ice.

Drop Winters Grasp imo. If you insist on the 3 others take Stonefist instead. I would probably drop Fade Step too, but I understand its convenience. Barrier gives access to Chaotic Focus which is so good that even support Ele could use it - Fire Mine: powerful, tactical, lifesaver

Problem with this is that firestorm is the best CC the elementalist has, and firewall might be second. Stonefist is great too for knockdowns... Starts to sound like the meta build huh?

If its not "to carry Perilous" build which I assume is not, Firestorm is not necessary. OP assume some level of gimping already. I said Fire Mine as going up Destruction tree up to Clean Burn makes sense.

btw I've tried this build: 4 elements similar to idea of support Ele.

Yep.
normally i run my elementalist with Stonefist, Firewall, barrier, and firestorm. As firestorm tends to encourage the no key drop bug, i switched it out for immolate.

Hah! Great builds. My planned support ele i should have emphasised the frost spells.

Definitely going to try out your suggestions after the next promotion.

Stonefist is such a beloved spell of mine. And I've never actually tried out Lightning bolt in SP or MP.

Lightning Bolt requires precision (its not Chain Lightning or whatever close your eyes and i'll kiss you), timing and ideally someone to detonate the combo as Discharge is one of the stronger ones. 200% single target sounds like Winters Grasp but it is not. As I noted, it should be hitting 1000% weapon damage + paralyze + Discharge, when used efficiently.

I like the Necromancer better with ice spells... And Spirit Mark, of course!

The Elementalist-Fire and Necromancer-Ice is a fun team though... Not to mention, Rion is like the only one that Sidony isn't rude to 100% of the time lol.

Can I just say that, while I understand why Bioware left Ice Wall out of MP (too many trolls), I still wish the Necromancer had it...

My first necromancer 'build' invested heavily in to the Gravelord tree (mostly to investigate the new necromancer spells) and i like spirit mark upgraded for its DOT.

My current is more concerned with the winter spells and nuking enemies with walking bomb.

As for the ice wall spell....may be it will be introduced on a new character ( an avvar shaman perhaps?) especially if they introduce new maps for MP. Im a little bored with the maps at the moment, but that's something for another topic :)

I go with Winter's Grasp, Horror, Walking Bomb, and Fade Step. Nice 50/50 Necro/Ice mix. However, I would drop WG in a second for Ice Wall...

My Necro build being carried through Perilous by some pros:

Is there any evidence on this? I use firestorm on my elemenatlist, too, but I would refrain from doing so if this was the case.

more of a dot killing invisible mobs than firestorm that's bugging the **** up, then again it can simply not drop even w/o dots/firestorm...

I believe a fair few people on these forums have run into the bug, and i noticed it when i was playing with randoms with my alchemist. Everytime the ele would cast firestorm no key drop.

when they didn't cast it, we had no problems.

I hope to see it fixed asap.

Icewall needs to be changed a little bit before a character can use it. Right now it could block teammates aswell, that's obviously not good.

"See that tiny passage we all have to go through to reach the next door? Oh no, now it's blocked. Whoever would do such a horrible thing?"

Even if you could hack your way through it, the potential for creative trolling would be so enormous that I doubt I'd ever play anything else ... up until I would get kicked out of all of my friends' lobbies for being an arse. :P

Haha :P

I could imagine it now. Throw up a wall, to stop shades and wraith ranged attacks, rez a teammate or throw a healing mist.

DC says hi :D

I really really realllllllly would love to play like that. But Winters Grasp costs so much mana, Ice Mine is to weak and there isnt an icewall spell.

I live in Canada. Winter doesn't need any support.

I would swap ice mine for wall of fire, the crowd control is amazing - especially at choke points. Also, fade cloak is better than frost step IMO because it breaks CC just like a potion (demon cmmdr knocks down group, you pop FC and barrier your panicking friends). I run my elementalist as a barrier/CC support class with decent damage.

i wanted to use the four elements build with fade cloak, winters grasp, immolate and lightning bolt, but honestly there's not enough things with elemental weaknesses to justify it. you're better off sticking to one element and getting passives to buff that element. honestly nothing in MP resists fire except fire wraiths and probably something else but that's it.

Rage Demons strongly resist fire/weak to cold. Despair Demons strongly resist ice/weak to fire. Fear Demons strongly resist spirit/weak to electric. Pride Demons strongly resist electric/weak to spirit. Venatori are slightly resistant to spirit/weak to electric and Red Templars are slightly resistant to fire/weak to cold.

Yup, it's pretty much not at all like you say.

Aside, I go with predominantly fire with my Elementalist because that is where a lot of his actives and passives lean... If Chaotic Focus worked right, that is...

True enough about Fade Cloak, but in Perilous it isn't really about breaking stuns because if you get in the situation where you are stunned it's game over pretty much. IE if the DC does his fists of fury on your ass, you'll soon discover that Lady Luck is a common ****** and that you are fresh out of cash. Frost Step is better because it brings more utility to the field and allows you to gain distance with the click of a button.
