I found the notes you are supposed to get prior to ever speaking to the Alchemist in Haven pretty early in the game.  It said "save these, someone might need them."  When I remembered to swing by the shop, I did get a convo prompt to give him the notes, he did his normal dialog...

But no Lyrium potion recipe ever shows up. This sucks because I am playing a mage. Is there ANY other way to get that stupid recipe?  I don't want to start over, as I have a character I like (and I played for quite a while anyway, figuring it would correct itself, but no.)  Checked the cottage a second time in case something triggered, but the quest shows as completed in my log and I have no Lyrium potion recipe.

Did I miss something really derpy obvious or am I boned on this one?

You can't get a lyrium pot recipe anywhere else.

Should have an autosave of when you arrived in haven if you haven't played too far. Just load that.

You don't need lyrium potions on nightmare so I wouldn't care, unless you're doing some kind of min/maxing or a completionist playthrough.

I don't know if this is at all helpful but I'll put it out there in case it is.

Adan gives you a regeneration potion, not a lyrium one. Do you have that potion available?

Also- I wouldn't worry so much about mana regeneration. I'm also playing a Mage (only on hard, not nightmare) and I haven't found that I've needed one. The cool down periods are more of a hinderance than the mana pool.

Thanks for the replies  - I did have the regen potion, but the Lyrium potion always popped up in my prior complete run through and a game I abandoned after a couple hours. I am playing a mage and I'll admit, I haven't really needed the lyrium much on normal difficulty, but I just thought there might be a bug, since now 12 hours in, no Lyrium potion is ever available. I'll make do, I happen to like this character so far.
