Wife just woke me up to watch over her to puke in the bathroom so that she won´t pass out. It´s 4.12 am here. Looks like a food poisoning or something.

Ugh, I remember when I got food poisoning. The first time I vomited because of it felt like my ribs were splitting from the inside of my chest.

Really sorry to hear this. Food poisoning is the worst. If it helps to pass the time at all while you're up, here's a Brian Regan routine about going to the emergency room for a stomach virus.

 

 

Yeah Spec Ops is good. Gameplay is solid and the story is well done too. 

 

I guess I'm a bit of a curmudgeon, but I actually didn't love Spec Ops the way a lot of people did. Noble intentions, but I do think that subtlety is one of the game's first casualties. On the other hand, Spec Ops was the first game ever to have a book length critical study on it published, so what the heck do I know?

Ripped off? No. Heavily influenced? Most likely.

My understanding is that the game isn't exactly an adaptation but is explicitly based on Conrad's Heart of Darkness, and so shouldn't be considered a rip-off. In that sense, it's similar to S.T.A.L.K.E.R., which is based on Andrei Tarkovsky's 1979 film Stalker.

The generic mechanics of Spec Ops are intentional; it's basically a commentary on generic shooters, so introducing a lot of novel mechanics would be antithetical to its design. Heck, it's a game that's trying it's darndest not to be fun, which I respect in a way. I might revisit it sometime if I get the chance, but my back catalogue of unplayed games is pretty long, so that will likely not be for a while.

Thank you all. I´ve been nursing her all morning. Seems to be better now, is at sleep in the couch and I stay on guard. Could be norovirus too which means I am next in line.
