GET YOUR SH8T TOGETHER AND BEHAVE, PEOPLE!

WE HAVE SCARED PEOPLE AWAY FROM THIS THREAD WITH OUR CARELESS COMMENTS!

I've certainly been scared away. This thread just goes from weird to very weird in an instant just when you think it's back on track. Most of the time it's too weird for me now.

So to get this thread back on topic, here are two shots.

One topless of my broken self.
Spoiler

And one from the memory lane, myself back in the army.

Ah, military, I remember everything sucked horribly but the rifle. What rifle did you guys have back in the day?

SLR, in other words a licence-made FAL; 7.62 NATO. Reliable and cleverly-designed rifle which was really easy to maintain. Reasonably accurate, except when in my hands when it, er, wasn't.

FAL is/was a bloody good old warhorse, tons of good old ordnance grade steel and completely overbuilt.  Got the chance to try one back in my military time (general issue rifle has been the Steyr AUG STG77) and boy it was so much more rifle than what we have nowadays. Heavy though, shooting them standing unsupported was a challenge for the smaller guys.

Yeah, I was "smaller". They came in three sizes, I got the smallest and it was still too big. :/ I remember the first time I fired it, lying prone, it lifted my torso off the ground and I was winded when I dropped back down. Which isn't exactly the enduring tale of "I used to fire a FAL and I am awesome!" Sigh. It was a wonderfully designed and manufactured piece of equipment, though: especially compared to its replacement, the SA80, which was a bastardised AR18 with the intention of being made as cheaply as possible (bearing in mind that the Enfield factory made their reputation on high-quality engineering). The contrast couldn't have been stronger, according to those who've used both. The SA80 has finally been made into a competent rifle after a couple of bouts of re-engineering but I do think the premise was rather flawed; shame the UK didn't get the EM-2, the original bullpup configuration that was proposed back in the '50s. Rather ironic that the ammunition designed in parallel to the EM-2 was what the FAL was originally designed for.

We had RK7.62. 62. A finnish variant of the russian AK. Solid weapon, few parts, I could dissemble and put back together in 20sec each way with a bag over my head.

BTW Lee died because he looked at this thread and all his hope turned into despair.

Guns seem awfully messy and very loud. This works just as effective and if used in a timely manner avoids the entire conflict situation all together.

And the added benefit of a floral bouquet for the funeral.

 .........

You know, if you weren't ''playing for the other team'' I'd totally ask you out for dinner now.  :D

Its pretty sad that Enfield went the super cheap route, I have an .303 Enfield No4 MK2 from the Fazakerly plant from 54' and it simply oozes quality. Everyone I know who used an SA80 complains heavily about it.

Can't say anything bad about my countries replacement for the FAL though, the AUG. Sure, the 5.56 is so much gentler for smaller people that get rocked around by the 7.62. but I still think armies should have kept their 7.62's for those who can handle them, just like squad-level SAW's. Why not if you already have them?

But nobody asked me!
