Man.. A Few weeks ago I was moving into my new place. Just up the block so I didn't see the need for large moving truck. I would manually carry over my stuff the previous house to the current one. When I was carrying the TV, these two guys were seated close to my new place. They are neighbors of mine. One guy whispers to his friend, "Look a black guy with a TV," and the two of them started laughing. I asked him to repeat what he said and he stood there in a stoic position.

 

Today as I am walking back, I see their car close to the parking spot. It is this huge pick up truck and behind it, a glorious confederate flag waving. I really do not know what to make of this. I'm frustrated

It's almost 9am and I've been up since 3pm yesterday. It was a sh*tty day and night tbh.

If you're having trouble sleeping, I recommend reading a really boring book (textbooks always work) or listening to some really boring music. John Cage's "As SLow aS Possible" might do the trick. It's normally performed in 20-70 minutes, but one cathedral in Germany is performing it over 639 years. It began in 2001 and is scheduled to be completed in the year 2640. If you're still having trouble sleeping in 2640, I probably won't have much advice for you, because I'll be dead.

It is the internet that ripped away the veneer of the illusion I had that Canada did not have much casual racism. And maybe it doesn't, compared to a lot of places, but the amount of it that litters the comment section of almost any Canadian news distributors' website is a sad, eye-opening experience.

That really sucks, man. I'm pretty averse to confrontation in my own life, and have never had to deal with racism directed towards myself, so unfortunately I don't have much good advice on how to deal with this, unless you can reprogram their minds using C++. Hopefully those aren't people you'll have to deal with very often; I've barely met anyone in my apartment complex after 2+ years of living there.

What's surprising about that? People have tremendous contempt for each other on the individual level without taking into account politics, race,religion,ethnicity,etc and some of the bloodiest wars in history were between members of the same group, so I don't see why continued race issues should be surprising.

Hell we get more trouble out of young black people that think they're entitled to something just because their ancestors were slaves. And the old black people here can't stand them and say that they are a disgrace for the rights that their ancestors fought for.
