Nothing pisses me off more when my AI allies take my gold. I've boxed my workers in to keep them out.

I remember once when I had an AI ally in the first Age of Empires.

It had put a catapult to shoot stones at a bottleneck where its workers kept going through to get recourses. Not surprisingly it didn't have many workers left when I finally decided to destroy that catapult. My ally responded with declaring war against me... ungrateful bastard... but I guess it just took some sadistic pleasure in seeing its own workers getting bombarded to death.

At the beginning of the game, I try to build walls around relics so I can get them later when I advance to the castle age.
