Why are there no decent guides this time around?

This time around there seems to be a major reduction in decent guides available on the internetz. The main wiki is virtually useless, I've seen another few that have a tad more data but are fragmented and full of holes, and the single best guide I've seen is the one on... IGN.
Does anyone know of a decent guide that helps out with gear descriptions? Like where to get x helmet/schematic + what it looks like? I'm looking for the helmet the orlesian battlemages wear (identical to Malcolm's mask from the DA2 mage gear dlc) but no idea where to find it.

Back when I first started DA:O, the dragon age wiki was packed full of data regarding spells, gear, skills etc that made it a doddle figuring out what kit I would go for, and when DA2 came out, it was the same.

The best helms and schematics I recall were found in a shop within The Hissing Wastes (recommended 16+ lvl). And a tip for gear: avoid Berserker effects on weapons & shields; annoying penalties can create disaster.
Believe the lack of singular guides is due to the exploration and roaming that can e done in the game.

Ib4halfdecentg- damn.
The dragon age wiki will collect that data over time as it relies on users to add information. Also, game is huge so it takes a while to compile said date. Any internet guides rely on a team of people playing the game over and over and jotting all this stuff down.

I'd imaging it has more to do with putting together the information and such because of how huge the in-game world is. You can find guides on quests, collectibles and astrariums through google searches.
segmentnext.com, I believe, has a lot of these.

I'm not sure if you're only talking about websites, but I have the collectors edition guide in book form, and its both very beautiful and very useful. Helped me through any part of the game I struggled with on my first playthrough. Now, I'm reading it all to learn everything I can.

Even the official guide is incredibly incomplete and unspecific.

If this game is half decent, then I don't want to even know what Mass Effect 2 and 3 were, exempting story-wise....

I think all three are awesome. All for sure in my top 10 from the last decade.

Gameplay wise, I was not on board with Bioware linearizing/call of dutyifying(as totalbiscuit puts it) of the environment. Actually the game just got turned into nothing more than a glorified shooter with "levels" the way I saw it.
Mass effect 1 was dangerously close to that sure, but I was thinking they were going to improve on that more open system they had, not totally gut it out. That's why I was relieved to see Inquisition return to these roots. After Dragon Age 2 I was worried we would never see this kind of game again from Bioware.

Never played Mass Effect 1. I'm a Playstation guy. From talking to friends who had played it, the gameplay wouldn't have been something I'd have enjoyed.

DAO had a toolset, which allowed us to extract the game data to look at it. That information could easily be copied to wikis.
What irritates me is that, when I asked Cameron Lee about documentation, he said that they would "work with the wikis", but they've doneno such thing. Everything about this game makes it harder for us to learn how the mechanics works.
This game needs documentation.
