And, IDK if I'd even want to start it. The game doesn't let me do the Cerebus thing in game, so all my DLC is worthless....

Bioware / EA should be embarrassed

Right, nothing posted here works for me. Followed directions to the T, copied save game files and put them in an ME1 folder in the ME2 save game area based on the recommendations of another poster... I get nothing. It lets me select the folder and doesn't do anything after that - I save the config regardless, start up ME2 and have nothing to select for importing a character.

I have W7 64-bit, steam installs for both ME1 and ME2. Going off of a save that I used a command line cheat to up my character to level 50 (I couldn't possibly see that effecting anything, but there you go). I have not won the game with this save, I'm about 40% through.

Before anyone gets preachy on the cheating bit, I went through two play-throughs on my Xbox360 with a level 60 char, and I felt it would be nice not to log another 40+ hours to get the ME2 bennies on a character build I know like the back of my hand.

Edit: for worse-than-normal grammar correction, yes it's still a mine field up there but I try [a teeny bit]

Doesn't work for me. I've pointed the configuration utility at my "C:\\Users\\Jason\\Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect\\Save" directory and it does nothing. I've also manually copied my save files from "C:\\Users\\Jason\\Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect\\Save" to "C:\\Users\\Jason\\Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\Save\\ME1" and it does not pick them up in the import character screen.

My Config utility crashes every time while collecting system information, and copying over the save files manually didn't seem to help either.

Having the same issue it seems. I've followed the instructions in the FAQ to the letter, but when I press OK after locating the folder nothing seems to happen (Besides the folder browser closing back to the Utility). A quick confirmation in ME2 shows my saves aren't available for import.

I'm quite sure the file is in the folder, and opening it up in ME1 shows I'm exactly where I left off (partway through my second play through). I haven't used any cheats.

I also just attempted the manual copy into the saves/ME1 folder inside Mass Effect 2. But no luck.

I have both games on disc and I was able to copy my character data and I have the option of importing my character. However, when I try to import him, the game goes to the loading screen and stops dead in its tracks. I have to shut my computer down manually. Not sure how to get around this.

I have this same issue, I hit import and it starts to load/import my save and then it freezes. Any ideas about what can be done?

I have tried the config utility, and manually copying the files from the ME1 save folder to the ME2 "ME1 Saves" folder. Nada... no luck. I choose Import ME1 from the new game feature and I get no choice.

Myself, I purchased ME1 on Steam, and ME2 in disc form. I can't find my save files under the Steam folder which contains my ME1 files. One would have assumed they would have anticipated eventualities such as Steam purchases and that some people may have bought the game from different vendors, ME1 either in a store or online, and ME2 in whichever form the previous game had not been purchased in.

Anyway, where are the ME1 save files on Steam?

I've got the same problem. Tried live chat with EA. waited 45 minutes for an "agent". When I was finally queued up for an agent I received a message; Que canceled. Does anyone know if the character has to be from a completed game?

I purchased Mass Effect via Steam; I purchased Mass Effect 2: CE via GameStop. I cannot find the save directory for Mass Effect to import my character from the original game to the sequel. There is no saved game file obvious; I looked through all the Steam program files. Am I SOL?

the save directory for steam should still be ../My Documents/Bioware/Mass Effect/Save/

I have the same problems as all of these posters. I have also tried everything listed by both documented and user posted directions. However, I did not finish the game during ME1. Here is my question, do I need to have finished ME1 to be able to copy my character over. Please only answer this question if you know for sure. I do not see that a character save must be on a finished campaign anywhere on the FAQ's or Bioware's website.

Thank you, Kyp. That's remarkably counter intuitive. Problem solved. Much obliged.

Oh, I assumed it was in program files, forgot about the possiblity of My Documents; modding C&C Generals should have taught me.

I bought the PC game from Gamestop and loaded it and my DLC and preorder stuff and when I tried to load my Mass Effect 1 save, the game just got stuck in loading. I'm trying to reinstall the game and hold off on DLC but I'm not happy. After waiting all day to play the game, I've got nothing but technical problems!

Was trying to manually import my ME1 save profile into my ME2 save directory but my Documents was missing on my C drive!! Long story short, whilst trying to activate ME2 (had misconfiguration error) I inadvertantly chose to hide that file path!! All fixed now but It doesn't recognize the files in game. I'm trying to import save files from another user's profile into my administrators ME2 save\\ME1 directory. Didn't think it'd make a difference. Id hate to have to beat ME1 all over again.

Yes I want to know the same as camppy in the previous post, must you have finished the campaign in ME1 in order to import your character saves to ME2?? And also importing my

saves from ME1 isn't working for me either.

Quick Update:

I've logged into the windows profile which actually contains the save files, however both methods of importing the save have yielded no fruit.

After checking ME1 and loading up my games to verify i have infact completed the game since my last windows repair install (keep the OS fresh every few months y'know) it turns out i've yet to complete the previous game at all (and as such have no complete game files to import). Sadly I've no way to recover my old save games as they've long since been erased along with the original 'User\\My Documents\\Bioware\\Mass Effect\\Save\\ME1' directories.

I apologize for spamming about without fully understanding the situation I was in. Once again, I advise others not to drink and troubleshoot Posted Image

Good Day.

Having the same issue. Tried loading my savegame over, the easy and hard way. No crashes, but it doesn't show any change. Running Vista 64-bit Premium. I'll keep playing around with it (since I beat the game already without a savegame), but it is pretty damned annoying.
