I miss my NY pizzas I used to get in NYC(where I was born).
Folding the slices so the grease could slide off onto the plate. /memories
I miss decent pizzas. The ones I used to be able to eat. /memories
YOUR GODDAMN GLUTEN FREE MEALS EARTHBOUND
A gluten intolerance also comes with the ability to kill any foodie conversation dead in the water.
WORTH IT It's not worth it.
Shove some lutefisk down your gluten free gob. ![]()
Shove some lutefisk down your gluten free gob.
I've heard it's best with butter.
Never had it. I hear everything from "its awesome" to horror stories.
I'm guessing more of the latter than the former. You wouldn't suggest I eat it otherwise.

Oh, I'm familiar with it. Frozen educated me.
Shove it on a pizza or something.
I'm open-minded but gelatinous fish on pizza?
Bacalao, sure. Lutefisk, nah tho
/not actually serious about bacalao on pizza

You're talking sense.

You're talking sense.
Every time I make it to NYC, I always end up getting Cuban sandwiches, and if not that a Sabretts hot dog from one of the stands with mustard or cooked red onions+sauerkraut. I never get the chance to head to Brooklyn and get a greasy foldable slice of my childhood.
I mean, I lived in Manhattan but its mad easy to get around the city if you know how.

On a couple of occasions (a Thai Tilapia curry and a Vindaloo made by a friend) I was in serious pain, but couldn't stop because it was so good...
But for the most part, I took it easy at first. I live with someone who makes very flavourful hot sauces for a living, and he's up to about 8 different kinds, now. That's where most of my experience comes from.
At this point, when I order things in a restaurant and they warn me, "It's really spicy," I'm all like, "Pshaw... t'ain't nuthin'."
But yeah, I had to work my way there gradually. xD

Huh... so that is a word

You don't know how to pizza, until most pizzas you eat are hot and spicy

Cuban sandwiches don't really do it for me much. There's a bunch of Spanish Caribbean food in my area, and I get tired with Dominican and Cuban food easily. It gets too starchy and meaty. The desserts are amazing though.
I've never really had an interest in visiting the city a lot. I mean, I've visited New York City because I have family there, or they work there. I also used to do volunteer research in Lenox Hill Hospital but never bothered to explore Manhattan. Now, I'll be working in Manhattan, especially in the Upper East Side. I also know there's a bunch of restaurants in Lexington Ave. I just have to explore the area, but I'm so sick of deli foods.

Oh COME ON. NYC has EVERYTHING. Its got food you didn't know existed. Explore! Get something Indian in Jackson Heights, something Caribbean in Washington Heights, etc etc the options are there.
You'll have to look it up cause I don't remember the place, but in NYC there's a church that was converted to a pizzeria. Has the brick ovens and everything. Its surreal.
As for Cuban sandwiches, I have Cuban ancestry and grew up with Cuban family so the sandwiches are LOVE. Also I don't eat them too often unless I'm back in Washington Heights and going to a local place there that sells some tasty tasty sandwiches.

I'm one of the people in NJ who doesn't think much about the City, even if it's 15 minutes away. That's a literal time of travel. I think I've eaten Indian food in Jackson Heights. I have family in Forest Hills. There are a lot of real places in the City. Thai food in the City can be authentic, which means spicy as hell.
Speaking of places to eat
This is crazy.
Ahh, so you're in North Jersey? I'm in South. I'm closer to the cheesesteaks of Philly.
If you like asian fare, there's some restaurant in Edgewater that is FANTASTIC. Wish I could remember its bloody name. All I remember is its got a view of the Hudson(naturally) and is in Edgewater's asian market zone. Hell if I can remember, but if you know the area you might have an idea of what I'm talking about.
As for dinner, wings down, now onto stuffing and potatoes. EEEYYY

Mitsuwa. Great food.
Edgewater is fantastic. Archetypus is a great place to take your date. Ravagh is Iranian, and they make great kebabs. Palisades Park has a bunch of great Korean places. So Moon Jip has one of the best kalbi I've ever tasted.
Well, partially why I wanted to work in Manhattan is to get to know the City more. I may plan to move there in the future, once I make enough money for rent.

NAILED IT. Damn understatement though. Goddamn do I want to go back and get some mochi ice cream or something of the sort.
Good luck affording the city. If apartments don't work for you, there ARE houses, but pricing's all over the place.

I know. My cousin's rent at Roosevelt Island is $3200 per month, I think. North Jersey isn't that different. A good 1-bedroom apartment in a complex can cost you $2000 per month. Some buildings are cheaper, though they are older. Fort Lee is still a good starting point. It's just across the GWB.
