Has anyone had trouble with CC in this game?  I find that the AI is constantly breaking it - e.g. the Mage will freeze a target then immediately cast a basic attack at the same target to break the CC.  I realize there are combos and whatnot but often I want to keep the target CC'ed.   Or cast an Icewall then run to the far side of it.

I can't find any other posts about CC much at all except people saying you need it at higher difficulty.

The only way I've found to do single target CC is by having all party targeting enemy A, while you cast your CC ability on enemy B. The problem is than when target A dies, most likely someone will auto target B and even try to detonate for a combo, so you have to switch everyone else to target C before A dies, and you manually finish A off. It only works well with tac cam, or very skilled use of character switching and radial menu.

FYI, you don't really need CC if you chose not to do it. Even on nightmare you'll be fine as long as you are careful with your tanking and either single target focus fire.

You can use a mage (ideally rift mage, but any will do) for some AoE CC support (static cage, fire wall, pull of the abyss, veil strike, stonefist) which makes everything easier without resorting to single target CC.

My AI Mages love to dispel the freeze effect of Winter's Grasp on enemies.  I assume it's because they're double-agents sent to sabotage me and I will have them promptly executed.

I think you should always turn off all but taunt CC abilities for AI usage. They are too expensive to not to be used strategically. Also I don't think freeze are broken by an attack. If its frozen it will stay so for the duration or until an ability detonates it.

This is actually a basic combo, and it does spirit damage.

True, but frequently they do it so fast that they don't give time for the warrior or rogue to do a better cross-class combo, and that's really annoying.
