This is addressed to those who have been latecomers to DAI MP as opposed to those who have been playing since day one.

Frankly speaking, it does not seem to be worth the grind. Every build, without exception is completely dependent on RNG weapons, which you may or may not have, rather than independent powers, which was occasionally the case in ME3 MP but not always, Turian Soldier vs. Asari Adept. The community is far smaller than that of ME3 MP and it is often hard to find games and one must consider the time investment, which would entail in all likelihood hundreds of hour of gameplay, to speak nothing of the many bugs and technical problems in the game. I remain on the fence as to whether or not I should fully commit myself to the game and in doing so dedicate the many hundreds of hours needed for grinding.I am furthermore curious if others who are latecomers to MP feel a similar way.

Why do you need to grind? It's not that hard to level up quickly. The only problem I've had is that the chests and match rewards give me everything but the stuff for the class I am.

That and the party banter that repeats on and on

I made the swap from Xbox 360 to PS4 on Christmas Day, sat though two days of connection issues and I already have the (argueably) best bow, best dagger, best 1h sword, two superb heal on kill rings, and every character unlocked.

For me, being a late bloomer hasn't been even remotely an issue.

I agree with this, I mean it's RNG dependent, but at the same time, I've only earned 80k gold which is like 30 hours of gameplay-ish, and I have lvl 20+ weapons for every class, as well as good accessories and lots of armies for all classes, with all classes unlocked.

It can feel very shitty in the beginning though until RNgeesus blessed you. Then the blessings come in waves.

Edit: you don't need hundreds of hours of grinding unless you are grinding promotions and challenges. The best gear will come pretty fast with just casual grinding.

I dunno. I don't really care about the fact that I'm playing Routine, and I figure it won't be long until I unlock all the classes.

I played a lot of ME 3 MP, though, so I think I had realistic expectations about how long it would ultimately take to unlock most good stuff.

The game is very weapon dependent, but I've no problems finding games at all.

Maybe being on console is different but on PC finding games it difficult in my experience.

I would play a couple rounds with you if only to test out the ping in this game.  ME3 used to work out pretty well.

It's just like playing Platinum with an Avenger Turian Soldier.

Even though the build is terrible, you're probably still going to do better than half the pugs rocking TGI + Harrier.

With the current loot mechanics, this game will always be easier to get into than MEMP ever was.

In DAMP, there are really only six weapons and a best version of each (there are some slim exceptions to this). In MEMP, there were five weapon types, but anyone whose played it can tell you every weapon was truly its own and that there was rarely any that played too similarly. That was especially the case once MEMP's DLC got rolling and further still, there were weapon, mod, and gear levels to worry about. For someone starting out late in MEMP's life, they hardly ever got what they wanted.

In DAMP, you can potentially get the absolute best Bow from your very first chest. MEMP's equivalent would be like getting a Harrier X or a Wraith X in your first chest. Every Bow is, for the most part, exactly the same. They don't change the way you play, so getting a Griffon early on means you just got 1 of 6 of the best weapons in the game. For that reason, DAMP is easier on a beginner, however it is hell for those trying to 'max their manifest'. Unlike MEMP, DAMP weapons aren't unique. You can very well have 12 of that Griffon bow before getting the best 1-hander or best dagger. From start to finish, you will always have the same drop rate on any one specific piece. For beginners, that's great. For those with hours put in, it is excruciating.

If you want in and you like the core gameplay, then join in. By no means should gear drops prevent you from playing if you want to. Find some cool people around here and just play.

I consider myself a latecomer. I've been playing the game for exactly 10 days and I've put about 90 hours in (waste of vacation, I know). Also I dare say that I have more issues than most players. Up until yesterday I could not find Public games nor host a game (I play from a developing region where no one plays this game, and the matchmaking system is virtually region locked). Opening a port helped me to at least join some overseas hosts.

There isn't a single character that can shine with low level equipment in this game. There are no Human Adepts nor N7 Paladins. So you need your 'Ultra Rares' ASAFP. The amount of bugs (saying that this game is in its alpha stage isn't an overstatement) and nonsense loot (Focus increasing weapons when Focus does not exist on MP) clearly tells that this game was a rushed afterthought.

All that being said, I am still playing this game. I like the diversity, the balanced characters (AW and Katari aside), and so far the RNG system has been kind to me. My inventory is now decent, except for 2-Handed weapons. The game is getting better and more interesting as I progress.
It is certainly no ME3MP, but it has its potential. All it will take is Bioware's commitment and dedication.

And if anything, the SP part of DAI is on its own worth hundreds of hours.

I beat SP twice, got burnt out on it fast, MP still on the fence for the reasons cited.

While this game is gear dependent, you can quickly acquire good, level 20+ weapons for each class with a week or two of playing.

The level 20+ uniques are very nice, but not mandatory.

The only game breaking must have item is the superb ring of life drain. I do not have one, but I'm not surprised as i got all the original gold guns and characters to their max level before i pulled my first asari adept. Those are my RNG odds.

The rings of life drain do stack as well one is good but two is the better

I've also invested a lot of time on SP (about 260 hours) before jumping into MP. While I felt that ME3 had a clearly better MP than SP experience, DAI seems to be exactly the opposite. Also, ME3MP had foresseably more longevity back in the early days, while DAMP feels like a gamble.
It also concerns me spending several hundreds of hours on DAMP with the fear that this game will die out too soon, but for the time being, it keeps me entertained. Though it would be nice to see some serious piece of free-DLC and bugs fixing in the next few days to bring us more confidence about Bioware's commitment to DAMP.

I thought superb rings of the same type didn't stack? I thought you couldn't stack the same bonuses, like you need one 15% life drain and one 10% life drain for it to stack. Am I wrong about that?

Unique weapons are by no means necessary.

I haven't yet reached level 20 with any character but have picked up weapons (rares and commons) with a damage of about 80% of the uniques.

Dont't grind.

Just have fun with it.

I have no problems finding games on PC at all hours of the clock and at the two levels I play (I haven't set foot in perilous yet since I don't have the right gear yet), but I'm European so YMMV.

Multiplayer is never worth it unless you enjoy grinding for gear/characters/etc.  That's sort of the point of it.  I already had enough of that with Mass Effect 3.   :)

What are you even talking about? Is this a thinly veiled "I can't find a team on the PC" thread?

I'm a latecomer to the game as well, starting to play seriously about a week ago. I'm at that point where my weapons are just a tad too good for Routine, but too weak apart from a bow for Threatening unless I'm around level 15. Furthermore I only promoted one class so far, as it does take a while to get to level 20, so I'm still squishy, weak and dumb with regard to attributes. To use a ME3MP parallel, I feel a little bit like I'm either stuck on bronze with a TGI or playing gold with an Avenger. Dunno, maybe I'm doing it wrong - also a possibility.

I also decided to buy some Platinum and hope for some decent weapon unlocks. It was a lol fail: for the 50 Euros pack I got one level 19 unique shield, that's it, no other unique or even higher level common. The RNG is not so much a cruel mistress as the Dominatrix Goddess of Pain.

But despite all that, I'll keep playing for now. I'm still unlocking my last classes and having fun learning the specifics of each. They all have quite different playstyles that are keeping me entertained. But in a game this reliant on weaponry, which ME3 was not as you could play power-based classes on higher difficulties quite early on, I do hope that the RNG takes pity on me soon, as that's probably what would make me walk away as well.

No problems finding games on PC though, in the European time zone at least.
