I remember starting off.  I was using crappy ilvl 10 or so weapons for the starting 3 classes.  Routine was extremely hard with pubs :).  I was growing a bit tired of the game.  And then BOOM, I find a Carta Punisher an ilvl 23 white dagger with 300+ dmg when runed.  I quickly crafted an assassin armor to unlock the class.  Game got really fun again.

if you like the gameplay of MP, just keep playing.  Once you find your weapon, you'll have a blast.  It can definitely be hard to play when you hit like a wet noodle in routine.

I can somewhat understand the frustration that comes along with coming into a game "late"... When a lot of players already have good gear I can understand how it could be a little discouraging at first. I started day 1 and it was a different experience I'm sure... Getting through routine was an accomplishment then and now all it takes is one geared character in your group and they will carry the rest. Regardless, it's still the same grind we all went through to gear up our characters and unlock new ones. In my opinion that's the most fun part... When getting a nice new weapon is exciting and makes you want to unlock that 2 handed warrior so you can use that new awesome greatsword you found... Or finally getting enough mats to unlock the necro or whatever class it is that you wanted to try out. Nothing really changes whether you started day one or yesterday... If anything it's easier to progress and level up your characters and earn gold for chests now then it was for those of us that have played since the game was released. It becomes much more of a frustrating experience once you have put hundreds of hours into the game and are still searching for that elusive item that the RNG just won't seem to give you (God know how many hours, 40 or so promotions and prestige 320 something now and still I can't ever get a life on kill ring to drop). Enjoy the early game because honestly as the game stands now that is the most fun part...

With the loot system being RNG, you're never too late to get started. People have reported getting lvl 23 uniques in their first few chests. The promotions are where you'll be behind but I doubt that many of the population intend to spam promotions in preparation for the next DLC.

Well, I forgot about that one gamebreaking thing: Promotions. They are the one factor that can and will bend the game in favor of those who have more time and more resources (better groups, better connection).
How will a humble player using a character having 5 promotions in that class perform next to a player who is using the same character but has 40 promotions in said class? Even if the RNG system bless our humble player with the same Equipment, there would still be a considerable gap in between the players.
Now imagine how wide will this gap become 6 months from now. The game, which already is of questionable acceptance towards its newcomers, will become completely unwelcoming.
Bioware has lost its mind and heart with this Promotion system.

I don't mean any disrespect to the developers - I freakin loved the SP and MP is good - but I can't imagine many people having interest for that long.

They'll need to really come up with something good in terms of DLC to have the kind of success the ME3 MP had.

So far they're really not off to the best start in that regard. The opposite I feel.

Of course since they're 'giving' it away or their budget is based on Microtransactions, thy may well end up in a vicious cycle that's impossible to break out of. DLC doesn't get people playing, therefore not getting the $$$ to make a good DLC, and so the downward spiral never ends.

I've also invested a lot of time on SP (about 260 hours) before jumping into MP. While I felt that ME3 had a clearly better MP than SP experience, DAI seems to be exactly the opposite. Also, ME3MP had foresseably more longevity back in the early days, while DAMP feels like a gamble.
It also concerns me spending several hundreds of hours on DAMP with the fear that this game will die out too soon, but for the time being, it keeps me entertained. Though it would be nice to see some serious piece of free-DLC and bugs fixing in the next few days to bring us more confidence about Bioware's commitment to DAMP.

Your thoughts echo mine, young one, well said.

We need to be realistic here. The game has been out for less than two months.

If I recall somewhat correctly, the bigger pieces of ME3 DLC didn't appear untill after six months had passed, so given the commitment from the DAMP dev team to support the mode for more than a full year (ME3 only got a full year) I would not expect them to drop everything on us right away.

Plus, any patch that the console people are to get needs to run through certification anyhow, which is it's own beast entirely.

This may be true but we can help them as much as possible. Ideas are the key help to give feedback like my team is doing. See the post The Unofficial Multiplayer Feedback thread you will see that alot of us trying to help speed up the ideas.

This is addressed to those who have been latecomers to DAI MP as opposed to those who have been playing since day one.

Frankly speaking, it does not seem to be worth the grind. Every build, without exception is completely dependent on RNG weapons, which you may or may not have, rather than independent powers, which was occasionally the case in ME3 MP but not always, Turian Soldier vs. Asari Adept. The community is far smaller than that of ME3 MP and it is often hard to find games and one must consider the time investment, which would entail in all likelihood hundreds of hour of gameplay, to speak nothing of the many bugs and technical problems in the game. I remain on the fence as to whether or not I should fully commit myself to the game and in doing so dedicate the many hundreds of hours needed for grinding.I am furthermore curious if others who are latecomers to MP feel a similar way.

All late comers, totally disregard this thread and enjoy the game. This op is making out like it's life or something.

I feel like the mp player base for xbox one has been consistently growing and is going strong.

QQ

90% of the PS4 crowd is so lame.
At least I'm building up a decent friends list for perilous promotion grinding and threatening gold grinding.

To echo others in this thread, your tolerance of grinding in this game will be entirely dependent on your tolerance of the RNG. I played a lot of MEMP, and in my experience, the main differences that made MEMP's RNG more tolerable were: shorter match duration (more chests/hour) and manifest advancement (i.e. numbered iterations of the various weapons).

I have played DAMP since day 1, and put in over 100 hours into it. The seemingly infinite number of low level common weapons I have received has demoralized me. The loot system of DAMP took a giant step backwards from the MEMP's modified Skinner box.

WRONG!

Played over 100 hours....Prestige 73 now and I'm still using lvl 5 gear because I get nothing but sh_tty lvl 1 gear in my boxes....

And w/ all the bugs/disconnects in game you may spend hours just to complete 1 play thru for a measly 1 prestige and no gear/gold......

I've played maybe 30 hours and my prestige level is 150 something. You might need to try something different?

I find the majority of people start getting decent gear between prestige level 95 and 125. You do seem to be pretty unlucky, just keep at it bro. I didn't get my first unique until I was 75k gold in. Then I got 10 uniques the next 25k

I've played about 110 hours, Prestige 242, and I already got several Unique Items for Accessories and the Best-in-Class Weapons, except for Two-Handed and Staff. Maybe I've been a little too lucky with the RNG. Also, I started pugging Threatening on my first day as well as getting carried on Perilous by some friends shortly after. Having friends helps a lot.
Still, I have all the bugs that everyone has. In addition, I live in remote and unprivileged region on the Planet and apparently the matchmaking is region-locked. It is incredibly difficult to find games and whenever I try to play on overseas hosts, I bug at least 75% of the time.
Yet I haven't stopped trying. I hope the game becomes more playable over time and with Developer's support.

Well Stardusk, I loved your LP videos. Feel free to add me on Origin (Drasca). I've added a few others from the Fora too, and helped jumpstart their MP experience. It isn't a grind when you have someone guiding you through the initial issues and successfully running the highest difficulty within two games.

From start to finish, you will always have the same drop rate on any one specific piece. For beginners, that's great. For those with hours put in, it is excruciating.

To emphasize your point: A few days ago I got Caliban in a chest. Before that, I had spent almost 300k gold on chests without recieving a single useable item... (apart from Enhanced ring of Long Shot)...

As far as I'm concerned this game was the most fun the first week or so, even though completing missions was a lot harder then. I still play though. Still looking for that top tier shield, or keeping my spot on the leaderboards.

Also on another note: I rarely get hit by bugs. Why? I dont play in games with Elementalists. There are still lag issues, but thats minor and probably connected to my gaming hours.

If people want to invest time in this game or not is all up to them. If they find it fun - then great. If not, just play another game.

Also, I dont mind doing some carrying and helping for new players - but the game is honestly not that hard, and before you know it you'd be running missions on threatening, which is probably by far the most played difficulty.
