Why is Blizzard + Walking Bomb spoken so highly of?

If you cast both of these your mana will be completely drained and your Blizzard will only last about 5 seconds. I've seen people say they cast both of them at once but I'd personally cast one, then the other, situationally. 

 

I swear if you didn't get the Winter Stillness passive these two skills would be unusable together. I guess you've got a higher chance of Walking Bomb triggering and chaining into combos, but it really gives Blizzard a much lower impact if you use both of them at once, because then you'll have a 20 second cooldown with NO crowd control.

 

Have you guys tried Virulence with Ice Mine or Winter's Grasp? I fucked up and put a skill point into upgrading Fade Step so now I can't try it out this build, unless I want to sacrifice the upgrade to Ice Mine which I really kind of don't... at all...

Haven't played too much Necro, but people often opt for the stam/mana necklaces, which changes how you can use your skills.

Yeah, spirit mark is WAY better.  Walking bomb is for noobs.  #DoYouEvenSpiritMark

Death Siphon helps heaps keeping your mana up. Fade Step or Frost Step to get within range and as soon as enemies start dying you get mana and health regen.
I always skip Winter Stillness, and I don't recall having mana shortage issues.

I went with Winters Grasp / Walking Bomb / Frost Step / Horror on my Necromancer that I do Perilous with. It really doesnt matter which build you go with on Routine / Threatening, but in Perilous you can only withstand 1-2 hits from the lowest mob so CCing and getting the **** out of dodge is priority no 1. Opening up with Horror -> Walking Bomb is a good combo. Save Winters Grasp and Frost Step for when mobs get in close.

I don't even think you can equip the stamina necklace, but if you can I'd question whether or not it works on mages or even two-handeds because apparently they call it "Focus" instead.

I concur with this build. In Perilous AoE damage abilities draw so much aggro. Blizzard is only good for threatening when you are clearing rooms by yourself. That said, I love bliz bomb combo in threatening for speed running while still grabbing all gold
