I've started my second playthrough as a female elven mage (first was female elven rogue), but with the British voice this time. I romanced Sera on the first run and it was epic. Having a hard time deciding on this playthru though. Anyone have any favorites? I think as a female I have:

Cullen

Josephine
Blackwall
Sera

Iron Bull

Did I miss any?  Are any of these more touching than others or more comedic? My mage is more of a traditional Dalish, with a hint of wisecracking and a weird belief that she is handpicked by Andraste.

Go with Blackwall because why not.

Blackwall's my favorite due to the fact that the romance can ultimately lead to redemption (or a chance at redemption) despite the darker revelations about his past. It's worthwhile as long as you don't mind dealing with the moral complexities involved.

You also have Solas as an option.

As a female elf... I think Solas, Cullen, or Josephine would all be good options. I really liked Solas and his romance (to the point where I have two Inquisitors romancing him), but Cullen's was sweet and so was Josephine's. That's just based on my own preferences, though. (shrug)

Cullen is probably my favorite of the list so I recommend him. Or Iron Bull.

I just listened to the Patrick Weekes interview from Nerd Appropriate where he talks about his characters, and basically if you want all the sads and some insight on the character, romance Solas.

I should also admit that I'm heavily biased  :D If you want something that doesn't end in fountains of tears, I'd say Cullen.

Josie is my favourite romance by far. But YMMV.

I've been keeping off the female elf just to romance Solas... and you don't even mention him OP :(

Hah! Sorry Solas lovers. Him and I don't get along so I must've subconciously left him out :/

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm thinking Cullen, Josie or Blackwall. Hmm.

From what I see on YT & personal gameplay (Cullen):

Josie: sweet & cute & elegant

BW: passionate & surprising & huge dose of drama

Cullen: sweet & deep & small dose of drama

It would probably help if you said what kind of romances you like in order for people to better recommend one to you. Cullen, Josephine, and Blackwall are three very different experiences. For example, I romanced Josephine and didn't care for it because it didn't have the things that I really look for in a romance. Other people find it fulfilling.

My recommendation would be Solas, despite your claim that you don't get along. I originally intended to go with Cullen (yes, I bought the game for Cullen...) and somehow twisted myself into a knot with Solas instead. Do not regret. I haven't been able to play any other romance option, he's really that good.

That's fair. I personally am not even sure at the moment. I think I was more trying to get a flavor each companion brings, which what a lot of people have kindly detailed here.

I really loved Sera's romance line, but I imagine that one is quite unique.

My preference is one that feels more 'complete' for lack of a better term. Some people have said the Josie one feels less complete than say like a companion romance like Blackwall.

Blackwall's is super angsty and dramatic. I'm not good enough and you should end this and stuff.

Josephine is adorable and people who describe her as Disney are not over exaggerating. The downside of it is that I never really found their relationship to go beyond the surface level, but I prefer something with a bit more emotional depth. (This is the only one of the three I did personally. I've only watched clips of the other two.)

Cullen is awkward and earnest. Probably the safest bet to appeal to most palettes.

I've only played two of those so far. It depends on what you're looking for. If it's romantic with some bittersweet stuff blended in, Solas is an excellent choice. Also very much tied to the main plot. If it's cute, light-hearted fun, I'd say Sera. Provided you're not an elf. Her romance can head closer to bittersweet/dramatic with an elf. Depending on how elfy you are.

Cullen's is pretty standard hero dude fare (I mean, much nicer then his thankfully not too closely related cousin Anomen, but he's the knight in shining armor guy that Bioware likes when they're not using the rogueish thiefy guy).  He's sweet, a bit awkward, not going to break your heart unless you're really stupid (DUH DRUGS GOOD), classically good looking, so on, so forth.  A lot of people compare him to Alistair, and while the characters are very different, I would say the mold is similar: it's the knight in shining armor courting his lady.  Disadvantage is you get very little companion banter on it compared to well, romancing a companion- but an advantage is that surprisingly, it seems to be one of the longer romances (it might have the most scenes!).  I would call it 'very sweet, but sort of bland'.

Josie is similar in some ways, only you take the other track- even if you're playing a female (which the game does acknowledge), you play the knight to her lady.  It's a somewhat courtly romance, and is probably most drama free of all the romances.  On TV Tropes, it's put in the Narm Charm quality- it's sort of toothrotting at times, but it's also very sweet.  (Having said that, I have trouble doing it with a female (or male) elf due to an animation scene in the romance... but that's just my take.)  It doesn't have a sex scene, though there are plenty of sweet and touching romances with her.

Iron Bull's romance tends more towards humorous (ala Sera's).  It also has some issues that can be problematic (specifically, it seems he and the Inquisitor are up to some BDSM- but there are no safewords set till *after* the first encounter).  I'm pretty just neutral on this, so, um, someone else will have to explain the yays and nays.

Blackwall's romance is... well.  You played the game once; I assume you got the Relevations quest.  If you're still okay with the idea of romancing him, then you're in for some sweet, sweet angst that can certainly compete with Anders and Fenris's issues from DAII.  It can be done as a heartbreaking redemption arc story... or uh, you can do some heartbreak and screaming.

Solas's romance is probably the shortest of all... and yet seems to have the most lore and background information attached to it.  I would recommend doing it at least once, because, well, wow.  Some of the relevations... awesome.  However, like Blackwall's, it's also bittersweet, and there may be more of the bitter then the sweet at the end.

All my guy friends who romanced Josie because she was prettiest claim that her romance was boring and they're not even sure they were really in a relationship with her by the end.

I'm going to second what a few have said that Solas has the best romance that I've experienced. I came into the game thinking I would only ever romance Cullen, and, while I love that you can get your happy ending with him, Solas romance makes the whole DA:I story much better. It actually makes you feel like the Solas romance is an important part to the story.

Ah! So many votes for Solas and I've disliked him as a player thus far. Maybe I can set it all aside this once...

Who can tell? If you liked Sera, I'd say Bull but that is if you have no issue with bdsm culture. Cause if you're ok, he's just as badass as Sera.

Cullen or Blacwall romance can be "touching", if you care for them. But if you don't like them as characters and don't find their background interesting if won't be good for you.

I've only done one of the romances myself, so far, but have watched the majority of others on good old youtube.

Cullen (my one romance) is definitely a knight in shining armour kind or romance, with lots of very sweet scenes, good pacing throughout the game, and good interaction. His romance feel like it has a future 'after the game', and you never feel like the Inquisitor and him are going to break up. The game makes them a pretty solid couple, and they very much are just two people who fall in love and stay in love, with no 'real' drama. If you're playing as a mage, it gives the relationship a bit of a 'star-crossed lovers' feel, due the the ex-Templar aspect. Also, their first kiss made me do a mega fangirl swoon   If you like a good angsty/dramatic relationship, this is probably not the one for you, though...

In regards to the Blackwall romance, while I did enjoy some elements of their romantic story (his passion in certain scenes, the end of the redemption arc), his

Spoiler
left me feeling cold, and I guess their scenes just feel more 'drama' filled, instead of romantic. Haven't heard any party banter regarding them as a couple, so couldn't comment on that.

I've liked all of Bull's romance scenes I've seen, and have no problem with the 'BDSM stuff'. It gets truly sweet in the later stages of their relationship, and I've heard bits of good banter. It just depends if you're comfortable with some of the more explicit 'talk', and with the romance starting out as obviously more casual than some others.

As others have said, the Josie romance is the epitome of 'Disney Princess'. Very sweet, very sugary, but feels very on the surface IMHO. Doesn't necessarily feel passionate to me, but I've not played it though. The

Spoiler
scene is great fun though, and I can guarantee that she won't break your heart ;)

Can't give my opinion on the Solas romance as punchy feelings.

Dark and Broody = Blackwall
Fairy tale = cullen (he was mine in my first pt)
Story and lore heavy = Solas
Disney Princess = Josie
Hilarious = iron bull

Depends on your mood I guess. You can shmooze multiple people and break up with them later too

Go with Solas, since he's an elf exclusive option.
