What was more enjoyable to you? I personally found an archer rogue exponentially more enjoyable than a dual wielding rogue
The hinterlands grind does not take nearly as much time in subsequent playthroughs, you learn where everything is and head straight there ignoring much of the collection and fetch quests.

I didn't play the warrior or the mage for nearly as long as the rogue, so it's tough to say which I enjoyed most. I enjoyed the rogue at the beginning because it has some nice stealth moves and it's a very mobile class. However, my main problem with it was that it is annoying trying to position my rogue behind the enemies all the time- as enemies move alot, it requires more micromanagement than I would like to keep the rogue where I want her. Also, my rogue dealing less damage than everyone else against armored foes became very frustrating, and again, I felt odd playing as a rogue for some reason.
I'd say a warrior might be the most fun as I can just run in and not worry as much about micromanagement- it makes it feel more like an action game, although that may get old after a while, and also I would prefer not to be a tank. Lastly, I liked the mage for all the abilities it had- it's awesome freezing enemies and using different spells on them. However, my main problem was that I got bored just standing in one place for the entire battle without doing much except casting a spell now and then. If mages gain more mana and/or become more mobile later in the game, then those would probably be the most fun for me.

My heart belongs to the rogue, but the mage class is a lot of fun to me. Having to stand still while casting is so-so, but honestly I don't care as much in this game because the spells are pretty fun. My mage is pretty much pikachu with nothing but lightning attacks, at least until I unlock the Knight Enchanter spec.

I haven't played a DW rogue so I can't give a whole lot of advice there, might have to craft some daggers or get certain skills to pump your damage up. If it feels REALLY awkward you could try Archery and see if that is more appealing as mentioned.
Warriors are supreme knockdown menaces against weak enemies and with Charging Bull become very mobile and able to generate Guard while knocking stuff around. If you take the upgrade, you get a free ability to use at the end of a charge, awesome multi-purpose ability to have. Just have to use it manually and turn it back off when you hit the last enemy. Combat Roll is handy to get yourself out of a crappy situation as well, sort of like Fade Step for mages or Leaping Shot/Evade for rogues. You'll definitely want to pick it up if you're not going to be the tank, but it's handy for those too. Playing a two-hander currently and enjoying it immensely.
Mages do stand around a lot, there's really not much for it but getting Fade Step so you can zip around a little. Knight Enchanters get some melee abilities so you can mix ranged attacks with some melee but whatever you do, don't drop into Spirit Blade and Fade Cloak spam...that makes for a super snooze fest. I have yet to try a Rift mage but I've got my eye on it the next time I want to play a mage.

For the record, your DW Rogue won't lag behind the others in damage for long. I'm near the end of my first playthrough, a DW Rogue Assassin, and I easily do the most damage in the party...by a wide margin. Any passives or gear that up your Cunning or Crit Chance are worthwhile, especially the passives that remove the cooldown on Stealth and make hits from Stealth auto-crits. I don't know my Crit Chance off-hand, but it's extremely high...probably close to 70%. And Hidden Blades coming out of Stealth will instantly take down the target of my choice to open any fight unless it's a boss-level baddie.
Regarding your flanking complaints...I definitely flank when it's convenient to do so, but I don't obsess over it. Flank Attack can help with the positioning, as does the passive that gives 100% threat reduction when attacking from behind, as it prevents them from turning to face you. Having a warrior specced with plenty of taunt abilities will also keep enemies glued in place a bit more so you're not constantly chasing them down. I have Cassandra setup with War Cry as a preferred talent, so usually the bad guys clump around her and largely ignore me while I tear them to shreds.
Good luck!
