Two things I would love to see in future DA games: Marriage & Children.

Having played games such as the Fable series and the Elder Scrolls, I hope to see in the future, features like marriage and being able to adopt/have children in DA games.

The whole concept of being able to marry a companion whom your hero has fallen in love with, to have a home together and be able to have children with, I think would make for a great addition in the series.

I mean, why not?

Those who do not care for such things, can simply ignore them in-game.

But to have the option there, would be great for those who like these sort of things.

I always enjoyed playing my hero in Fable II, coming home after great adventures, to see the wife and kid run up to my hero and welcome him home.

It makes for great story immersion.

And ultimatley, is story immersion not one of the greatest incentives to play a game, that which makes a game truly enjoyable and memorable?

Certainly it is not just the gameplay, fighting monsters and leveling etc..., that makes for a great game.

For most people, I am certain, there is more to it then just that.

The story and how much you can immerse yourself into it, how fond you can grow of your character and the characters around you, how deeply you can be moved by the storyline and personalities of characters your hero meets.

I remember how immersed I was when I was playing Telltale's "The Walking Dead" game series and how fond I grew of the characters in the game, the laughs I had when funny things were said by my character or others, the pain I felt when someone died whom I had grown fond of, the anger I sensed when my character and those around him were wronged and attacked etc...

Playing a game is just like reading a good book, you loose yourself in a good book and you grow to love and even hate certain characters.

But anyways, marriage and children I think would be a great feature to implement in future DA games.

I am sure I am not the only person who thinks so. ;)

No, no, please no. That just isn't the type of game Dragon Age is. The games need to be heavily story and character focused. Time skips, such as in DA2, hurt this in a big way. On that note, how does it help and not hurt your immersion to have a kid pop up in such a short time?

Anyway, the only way this could work is if they continued to give the LI and child deep characterization which would take a lot of work and be gated behind choosing that path. They already do this with having romances at all, so to spread it out even more would probably not work well. It's an interesting thought, but not right for Dragon Age.

Yeah that is true, I should have posted this under "general" or something. Maybe a moderator could re-link this thread to it's proper place.

Yeah maybe so. I just started DAO and 12 hours into it. I suppose I can't really say that it be perfect for the DA series, seeing as I have not played all games through or even started on DAII.

On a different note though, I wonder why there are no children in DAI, such as it is in DAO. I see kids among the Dalish Camp, in Lothering etc...even an Elven family with a child you get to talk to and mention about having chased away the bandits at the bridge.

But why are there no children seen anywhere in DAI? I have not explored any zones aside Hinterlands and the Stormcoast, so maybe there a kids in some zones I have not seen yet? Still, would have been nice to see entire families in Redcliffe.

Probably because they couldnt be bothered adding them. Aside from redcliffe none of the places you visit are child sutible.

Being that we're suppose to have a new hero with each game, it's not that unlikely for them to get married or have kids. You've already seen what happens if you have a child with Morrigan so it's not impossible. Thing is, Bioware seems to be against happy endings. In Mass Effect, you could have so many good LIs up until you reach the endings of 3 unless you picked Destroy, then you're left with Bioware telling you "they meet their LI again someday." In Dragon Age, you feel like your love interest is your one and only until they have it say something like "for a time." Like I just beat Origins after romancing Leliana and it said she stayed with my Warden "for a time" which I guess means she left him or he went off to do what it is he's doing. I want my guy to have a happy ending lol

We see what happens if the Warden has a kid with Morrigan two games later. ME3 and it's ending were awful for many reasons. For Dragon Age, it's partly because the story isn't over. The Warden disappears to do whatever. Leliana goes to work for the Divine and Morrigan goes through the Illuvian. I don't know what happens to a Warden that romances Alistair or Zevran.

A wedding would be really cool, though I'd be happy even if they just let you propose XD

Perhaps a red wedding, or a purple wedding? I think that would be suitable.
