New feature for individual threads

Reading other folks' posts is part of the enjoyment of a thread.  However there are two kinds of posts:

1.    Original comment

2.    Quote-with-comment

As you may know, after much iteration of the latter (like ordinary email), the original THREAD TOPIC is lost over time.  Example:

·         I think it should be blue.

          -(quote above, followed by)-

·         Blue is wrong, it should be red.

·         Red is nice but purple looks good in my living room.

·         Yes I had my living room decorated recently.

·         Really?  That costs lots of money.

·         Well, I did it myself since I got the idea from the movie XYZ

·         That was a great movie.

·         Nah, XYZ stank – bad acting – movie ABC was better

(etc, etc) – get the picture?

The title of the thread gets our attention – then we are forced to read irrelevant comments which (to me) wastes our time.  Such comments belong in the OFF TOPIC sections – but we are all FORCED to sift thru them.

The situation is magnified for threads that have 1,000+ posts of which there may be only 75 original contributors:  that is, original [relevant] posts with no quotes.   As you know, some people just like to argue instead of saving their “fight” for the game.

MY PROPOSAL:   This should be painlessly easy to implement since nothing has to be stored in anyone’s profile.   At the beginning of each thread, have a check-box that says:

For this thread only – show only original posts (no quotes)

This allows a CHOICE for those who want to read every post & quote (default) -- and alternatively, gives the rest of us the capability to read all original posts without spending 2 hours read-and-skipping those comments that are irrelevant to the thread topic.   A CHOICE.  I would probably NOT use this feature for a thread with 50 posts --- but I would if there were 300+ posts.

I believe it would allow us to cover more threads in less time and return to threads that really interest us to read everything (box unchecked).

Thats a flawed system. How is a comment without a quote more relevant than a comment with a quote?

I could say something rubbish in a non quoted post and then something meaningful after quoting someone

That you Mike?  You always seem to have something interesting to say....but then you're the grand master of all these games here.   How can little-old-me have much to contribute next to giants like you & Julia & the rest of the "cool" crew?  (minus the bratty crass juveniles)

After ME, I played Witcher2 that I bought some while back --  to get my mind ready for DAO.  Currently playing DAO (2nd round).   As mentioned in another note, it amazes me the similarities between ME and DAO.   Looks like the same story writer.

I'm still struggling with this 2nd person combat.   I'm used to 1st and 3rd view with TOTAL control (real time) aiming & shooting.  One of the splinter cell games has the very best (for me) - switches from 3rd to 1st when aiming a weapon.   In DAO, it seems to me that this PAUSE & assign the squad various targets (so the computer can do it) -- isn't realistic --  though if I don't pause, the team does fairly well.   Not as cool as ME combat.

After playing both ME and DAO, I think I've  MISSED it.   As an engineer, I want a SOLUTION to the reaper & darkspawn problem.   However it seems to me now (duhh) that the fun of the game are the various tasks -- running around & doing stuff that leads up to the final end -- which now seems secondary.

Now this is a TYPICAL EXAMPLE of how the essence of the thread TOPIC spins off.

Little boy -

Go vent your sour grapes to someone who ALSO rides a skateboard (and tells everyone it is a Corvette).

Juvenile added to IGNORE LIST.
