I didn't.

But I really thought about it at one point. That point being when the entire party had been trapped in a room for 2 minutes because the lag was too bad for anyone to stop rubberbanding back to their original location.

Edit: Some of the people who answered clearly didn't read the above, or didn't understand it, so here is just one minute of the game I was talking about:

Every time this happened during the game, the other two non-hosts were stuck right next to me, rubber-banding just like I was. It took 24 minutes for the mission to end in failure due to the overwhelming lag.

In a just world, people with crappy internet connection would never be allowed to host games. At least that's the way things would be if I were Emperor of the Internets. However, yes it's not appropriate to kick the host when you have the option to leave. If it's a higher difficulty private match then it's a different matter. It's best if you all left and started a new game, if you're far into it... then I can perhaps see a reason for it. It's still better if you just started a new game.

Whenever three unacquainted players kick a fourth, for whatever reason, it should be deemed acceptable.

If MP was done properly the player would be given a list of games with ping times and could pick the one that seems the best.

But they seem to think an RNG matchmaking system is best. Probably for comic relief.

They were told how it should work in ME3, it seems it's one lesson they're not interested in learning.

Absolutely. They were being selfish and ruining three other players experience by hosting to make up for their shitty internet. [X] [X] [X]

if its going to benefit 3 players then yes. i have done this more then a few times since it's for the best of the entire group. it's not your fault the person with a shitty connection chose to host. they need to learn some way and that sure as hell reinforces the point.

So how good an internet connection is recommended?

I've never seen a suggested minimum Mbps...

I personally wouldn't do it. I'd sooner leave the match, wasted consumables or not.

Most of the games I've played had lag in some form, the ones that ran without problems were hosted by me or by people on Cable. As I know my connection is something akin to ADSL1 Dialup at the moment, I don't inflict it upon others and thus solo the game when I do get around to playing. In the country I live in, Cable is only available in select areas like cities and even then most areas don't have it (the last place I lived at didn't have it at any rate). Regional areas get the shaft and only have the option of ADSL2+, if there are enough ports on the exchange. In addition very few areas have Fibre since NBN is rolling out slower than a snail in some places. I'm about 4kms from my nearest exchange though, so my speeds are impacted by that on top of our copper wire infrastructure, on top of an open circuit line fault that my ISP is taking their sweet time to fix. I'm a bit salty about that, as it might seem. Anyway, I know my connection sucks, so I do try to avoid hosting when not playing solo, especially as my current download speed averages at 46kbs. Upload is a little better, but still terrible.

On that same token, if the entire group agrees to kicking the host, then I say go for it. It'll be unfortunate for the host if they lose experience and gold (haven't been kicked from a game, so don't know if this happens), but hopefully they'll be able to regain it through another match.

This is my connection. Everybody I play with tells me I had pretty good host so this may be some indicator, though in reality, a ping counter would be preferred to have in game.

To answer your question, yes its perfectly reasonable to kick a host for having bad connection.

I would personally just leave and host myself if the quick search option failed me.

They wouldn't want to say, or fear reduced sales.

However given PSN's Share Play feature basically doesn't work without 5meg upload, i'd say this is an unofficial required minimum.  This does assume you have your bandwidth to yourself, and no other family/friends are sharing your connection, you're not downloading pr0n etc

A number of people seem to be deluded though, re: "my internet is fast", but their wife is watching soaps on BBC, teenage girl is streaming youtube and 7 year old boy is playing CoD, while their pr0n torrent is hammering away...

Not saying it's polite to kick:  then again it's more polite to not play online without a decent connection

Why would you kick the host? The others might have a good connection to him...honestly just leave.

Unlikely. And if they do, the votekick will fail.

Yes. They need to get the idea that this is not acceptable.

Not acceptable? Until the FCC really puts the thumbscrews on TWC and Comcast for their de-facto monopoly, there's not a lot most people can do about their connection. Calm the hell down. It's just a vidjamagaem.

This topic should not exist in 2015.

The easiest thing is usually to blame EA, but I did not encounter such issues playing PvZ or Titanfall.

I think most of these people do not have cable internet service, and whether they can get better service or not is not really the point. They know their connection sucks, and they are making the choice to screw with three other people.

I haven't kicked a laggy host before, but after seeing this thread, I think I like the idea.

I don't know about the tech they use, but Garden Ops and Frontier Defense are four player co-op modes not dissimilar to DAMP.

If they use dedicated servers, why not DAMP?

If they got the P2P thing right, why not DAMP?

Maybe those games have larger player base, which makes it easier to connect players (which would be a problem considering DAI was released only recently), but the matchmaking should not connect you to a game with lag issues anyway.

Honestly, the game should be streamed from cloud .. maybe not in 2015 yet but conceptually, it makes little sense to have millions, more or less compatible, user based graphics cards and processors to compute essentially the same, consume energy in the process and materials to be produced. So everyone is in cloud, four people included. Microsoft know what they are doing. P2P is last century, but its cheap for provider.

Back in reality, acceptable or not, if 3 vote kick there is nothing host can do. Acceptable.

If you read the OP carefully, you will notice that I describe a scenario where the entire party was stuck in one place for several minutes. If it had just been me, I'm quite certain that when I was able to move again, the other 2 wouldn't have been right beside me, rubber-banding just like I was.
