F*ck

LOTR is just full of them.

I'd post more.

But then this'll become a LOTR thread.

P.S

LOTR fights >>>>>>>> the Hobbit.

A lot messier and uncoordinated like they should be. Lots more weight to them sword strikes. Makes it seem they're actually human and tired.

All this has me wondering what the hell happened to Peter Jackson between the LOTR trilogy and his Hobbit trilogy.

Skinny celebrity Peter Jackson is an evil doppelganger of fat nerdier Peter Jackson.

It's not as well choreographed (or bombastic) as the duel on Mustafar but this will always be the best duel in the SW franchise to me:

The thing that makes this sequence so powerful is not so much the duel itself but the circumstances surrounding it. There's a lot of buildup to this moment and an emotional undercurrent running throughout the duel until the most famous plot twist in movie history and that last moment when Luke chooses to fall rather than join the dark side. It's really powerful stuff to me.

The duel on Mustafar definitely has some emotional weight behind it but I feel like the poor character development of Anakin throughout the prequels really dampens it. I could go into a lot more detail on that but I don't want this to be a prequel bashing thread.

I actually like the duel between Yoda and Palpatine more.

It's really flashy and over-the-top of course but seeing two of the most powerful and iconic characters in the series finally meet in one last ditch effort to stop the rise of the Empire is pretty intense. It's one of the few moments in the prequels where I was really invested in what was happening onscreen.

Anyway I respect that you found more redeeming value in the Mustafar duel than I did so I won't challenge you much about it.

Well the way my Hairlines goin... :P

Perhaps.

Not gonna lie, Anakin burning gave my ten-year-younger self nightmares.

In all honesty, I was crying. But I was also 8 so I'm allowed that.

He remade King Kong.

Which incidentally was the movie he always wanted to make, and is in my opinion, the best version of Kong (Though the original 1933 film is very remarkable, especially given the time period it came out in)

I don't think they could've done the Balrog more perfectly. It's pretty much exactly how I envisioned it when I read the book (like the rest of the film really). Say what you want about Peter Jackson but he definitely plays for the gold when it comes to authenticity.

Best scene out of what is IMO Guy Ritchie's best movie.

It's been edited a bit here and is missing the finale but that's probably for the best as if you haven't seen it already it's incentive to do so.

AWESOME MOVIE!

I'm going to reach a bit to defend the scene. The rope swinging was weird so I'll give you that. The fact that they were on a swashbuckling escapade through a sea of lava was a little silly but it was also there to show how they were both deeply invested in each other and how the outside world didn't matter. Two former friends, even surrogate brothers, are forced to fight each other with emotions clouding their basic judgement.

I also thought Obi-wan yelling was necessary to show how deeply affected he was by the circumstances, for him to go from wise mentor to a broken man who had given up hope.

The worst part about the scene was Obi-wan leaving Anakin to burn to death. No mercy-killing and all. I mean, I know without Anakin there would be no Darth Vader but come on.

This fight makes a very good contrast to Luke vs Vader in RotJ. OB1 does wrong everything Luke does right in VI, and pushes Anakin further into the DS. Both are given the same advice, but Luke refuses to give up on Anakin and proves himself the better Jedi. Giving up way too soon seems like a common Old Order flaw, as it also appears often in the 3D series.

Keeping to swordfights, Connor McLeod vs the Kurgan from Highlander (at least until the last part), and the final fight of Scaramouche (swashbuckling at it best).

Movie versions only I guess, if you included that. What a way to butcher one of the most beautiful evocative passages of the book. But no, instead PJ made a parody of The Exorcist.

These are some excellent action scenes from the Halo series:

I also have to agree with all the LOTR videos posted above :P (excluding the Hobbit ones)

In the movie Equilibrium the final battle between Preston and DuPont is fun gun-kata action

The subway fight between Letty and Riley from Fast and Furious 6 is great

I used to cry when watching that part, back in the years following TFotR's release. Still gives me feels tbh.

Wow I had forgotten about the movie entirely, it was pretty cool though. There's kind of similarly styled one called Ultraviolet which is pretty cool because Milla Jovovich is there and she is hot.

The whole movie.

But here some reasons why I think that way (***WARNING: EXTREME VIOLENCE***):
