Well, you've done it again, as in the Mark of the Assassin from DA2 where Hawke went to the party dresses as a man, my female Inquisitor has just gone to an elegant party dressed as a man ,,,, again

The pajamas at Skyhold are bad, but this is even worse! Who would go to a party hosted by the Empress herself wearing that (and with that hairdo, by the way)? If my Inquisitor had been a dwarf, then I could have understood the bad taste in clothes, but no, she is a human and a Lady. She should know what is appropiate for each circumstance. And if she has forgotten, then Josephine should have reminded her, but no! Even Josephine is wearing that male uniform!

The uniform looks great for men, actually Cullen and Dorian look very handsome in it. But there is no way a female would wear that ... not even in the worst nightmare!

And to make thing even worse,

Spoiler

So, please, Bioware, let your  designers with femenine taste make the female clothes and hairdos. A femenine touch is definitely needed. They will know what to do, I am sure.

Or at least, let us mod the game so we can fix this monstruosity (as I fixed the party dress for Mark of the Assassin).

Happy 2015!

PS: It is possible to edit the title, after all.  ;)

They could've added a lot of quests to getting Gaspards' invitations and I thought we would have a quest to go shopping for our gown before that quest started too. The advisers and the war table again has taken control away from the player, there is too much power given to NPCs in this game.

Inquisitor went to party dressed in uniform like everyone else in Inquisition did no matter gender. That's not dressing as man, it's dressing for your work.

I'm fairly sure that when given the opportunity at least some men can design a good dress and or hairstyle.

Hawke and Inquisitrix seem to fall victim to needing to wear an outfit that can match their male counterpart with minimal morphing. It's been brought up a few times but BioWare seem uninterested in investing the zots to provide more options in that area. Which I find odd considering how big a deal customisation was supposed to be in Inquisition.

At the end of the day though, if there is only going to be one ball outfit, that one is probably better than most alternatives.

Of course if we're talking about uniforms it makes perfect sense for protagonist to have to wear them, but then the game also lets you dress up as a Warden or Templar, so strict uniform policy isn't a big deal elsewhere - not to mention weapons appearing out of thin air when you need them. If uniformity is to be enforced for plot reasons then I think acceptance or defiance of that should be considered as well - you have to wear the uniform but you can add a great big flower.

Not sure about woman touch here. You know, men like to look at beatiful women none the less. Just ask the men you have around (as I did) :)

And there are lots of male clothing designers in the world that are famous world-wide.

So let's change the subject to 'Bioware please let someone who has an aesthetic taste make concepts for clothing'.

I also think that the opening post is too generalizing, not all female players hate the uniform nor would prefer dress over it. Surely it fits the style of some Inquisitors as well. Also uniforms aren't mens wear, women wear them as well, just look soldiers or police. We also don't know who designed the uniform, it might have been woman as well as it could have been man.

What we need is more options.

I agree DAI could use a lot of improvements in the apparel section.

I want Morrigan's hair. What really got me was that they got rid of the only good looking hairstyles they had created and replaced them with 31 versions of a buzz cut! PLEEEEEZE give us better hair and dresses to wear to parties.

So, using logic, we can confirm that the Inquisition is a holy military. With that in understanding, all formal clothing for military is uniform. Gender is not considered in such a case.

As for Hawke looking like a man during the DLC, yeah I can see why the lack of taste could be a problem. Then again, Fem-Hawke is a fighter and a soldier from beginning to end. Hell, Hawke even grew up in Fereldan. You know how women dress there. I heard they can be rather butch at times.

Morrigan is in a dress because she worked for the empress. She has to dress for the job, just as the female inquisitor did. Notice how she ditches the silly thing when you meet her next time in the keep.

Well, someone at BioWare can design nice dresses and hairdos, since the OP specifically mentions Morrigan's. Pretty sure they didn't outsource that one, so it's not a matter of having an incompetent design team. It's probably a matter of resources again... just guessing, I'm no game development expert. But the way Morrigan looks on that screenshot clearly shows that BioWare knows their design.

You are right, TevOs, I am going to change the title (if I can). What we need is someone with good taste :)

And you can wear an uniform with a skirt, there is no need to be dressed like a man (and yes, that is a men's uniform). Soldier women wear skirts when dressep up, at least in Spain they do. One thing is to be a soldier/fighter, and a different one is to be a "marimacho" as we say in Spain

Yes, there are some poeple in the team with good tastes, Gileadan. My guess is that who designed Morrigan's dress and hairdo is a woman, but I may be wrong. The problem is that it seems it is not the same person the one that desgined the inquisitor female outfit and hairdos!

Most standing armies don't have dress options.

If they did, they'd get whacked so hard with the sexism stick that they would be forced to declare war on gender equality

You are an officer, representing your forces in a formal ceremony. Your sex is secondary. That is a good thing.

Or maybe they didn't want to or couldn't add combat animations for full dresses. There is some fighting at court after all, and if you are like me and forgot to switch to your regular armor before battle (and you can't switch once you are in combat mode, yay), then you have to fight in your formal attire. Maybe that is why it is basically just another set of armor, mechanics wise - you even get schematics for it after the quest.  It would probably a bit of a challenge to animate a female rogue's archer-backflip in a full dress. :D

in fact if you search for images, you will see that yes there is a difference between uniform. men and women in military organizations, they are small, the most apparent being the skirts.

I'd like a dress option (not forced), not sure why it should have to be designed by a women though. Lots of men can design good dresses.

I would have thought a dress would be the more appropriate option, as you're really playing politics at the ball, not military. I can see the other noble ladies looking down on your inappropriate attire.

At least 90% of top fashion designers are men.

Men and woman are equal in almost all walks of life - and amen to that - but men seem to dominate the top tiers of cooking and dress making.

Dorian Greatly Approves.

Here in England, they often have the option of a long, tasteful skirt or trousers.  Top half identical to male versions.

No dresses though. Unless the army got fabulous in recent years and nobody let me know.

On edit: To clarify, I'm talking about the formal attire. Skirts on battlefields? We're not that eccentric.

I'm from Finland and this is what all polices wear: https://www.poliisi....it ja maija.jpg pretty much on the field all the time. So there is no gender differences.

To return the topic I happen to be female player who loves the uniform so I find the OP's categorizing little too much. I think it looks professional and cool, even sexy, no matter the gender. So it's not like any woman in the world don't like it or wouldn't want to wear it, there is lot of different kind of women in the world with different tastes.

However i'd really like a fancy battle dress for my female elvish necromacer.

Everyone should just wear regimental kilts to the ball, problem solved ;D

Joking, joking (though I wouldn't say no to kilts in-game... kilts are nice... the pleats at the back sway from side to side as people run in kilts....)... but yes, I agree that it would be nice to actually have a choice in what to wear for that scene, and around Skyhold too. I don't mind the uniform-trousered look for a fem!inquisitor, but I wouldn't be opposed to having a more dress/skirt version of the same uniform if there was one. Or... heck... would be nice to have my inquisitor's uniform looking a wee bit different from everyone else's because I'm the Inquisitor, I lead the Inquisition!

Anyway, we have A BEARD (!) option for female characters.

And just 1 pj option for casual clothes? And just 1 male-styled outfit for The Ball?

How does THAT add up?

Your police look like the private security team of a evil businessman in a science fiction thriller.

That's epic.

Honestly it looks like all the resources went into male characters, the hairstyles, the cutscene animations, the slouch on the throne, the dance with the grand-duchess (which is why I suspect we're forced to wear pants). We need a bigger budget for female characters tbh.
