Hmm...while I totally agree on teh hairstlyes I do not mind wearing ceremonial uniform to an official occasion. i'd see it actually more inappropiate if my Quizzy would wear a fancy dess like Morirgan. As said above: this is official inquisition-business.

The cerermonial uniform...I also think females look damn sexy in such things. I only mind the colours though...would have preferred a bit of black, black you can wear to any occasion ^^

But please no skirts...I immediately get visions of good old Star Trek...uniforms with skirts are only there to please horny old men without hair, like Captain Kirk...^^

Skirts in space is asking for trouble.

Damn straight.

On the one hand, you have George Clooney. Sharp suits with sharper edges. Sophisticated.

Then you have me, rocking the "fell naked into a refuse sack, emerged looking garish" look.

Both dudes.

Agree, should be able to change cloths: shirts, pants, dresses, under ware whatever... like in DA:O... but good luck getting that adjusted when nearly all the armour is some horrible trench coat with add ons. From the start to the finish of the game all I have is a  hotel page  boy's outfit which is also my under armour, wonderful... kills any character identity I am trying craft and roll play. Game feels very much like a poor man's MMO, with added fetch quest love.

Honestly it looks like all the resources went into male characters, the hairstyles, the cutscene animations, the slouch on the throne, the dance with the grand-duchess (which is why I suspect we're forced to wear pants). We need a bigger budget for female characters tbh.

The inquisitor isn't some woman born in the middle of an orlaisian ball. Despite the human backstory being nobility, all females of all races include either a very aggressive or oppressive history. The inquisitor starts in this story being very familiar with the concept of being a soldier, spy, or rebel. It's easy to believe that the inquisitor does not develop very feminine personality traits such as the attraction to pretty dresses and sitting in a powerful way woman would.

The inquisitor will act as a soldier should, proper posture and efficient clothing that does not hinder movement.

The dance with the duchess shows a very "manly" position because you are leading and dominating the movements of the dance. Every dance has a "dominating" partner and a "submissive" partner. Someone has to lead the way. There are many examples of women doing this in dance routines.

But hey, you could say I'm speaking from a place of ignorance considering I am a man. I always felt weird having fem-shep run around her ship in a dress or having too much make-up on. I would feel the same with my female Inquisitor.  I hope the guys at nexus are getting good progress with the mod tool. It would be a nice touch for people who prefer the dresses.

My inquisitor is a dalish, yet for some reason she knows how to play the Orlesian Game brilliantly and knows how to dance at court, despite living her whole life in a nomadic clan and barely having contact with (non-orlesian noble) humans. That's not lore breaking? Yet she can't wear a dress? Errr.

Well, you've done it again, as in the Mark of the Assassin from DA2 where Hawke went to the party dresses as a man, my female Inquisitor has just gone to an elegant party dressed as a man ,,,, again

The pajamas at Skyhold are bad, but this is even worse! Who would go to a party hosted by the Empress herself wearing that (and with that hairdo, by the way)? If my Inquisitor had been a dwarf, then I could have understood the bad taste in clothes, but no, she is a human and a Lady. She should know what is appropiate for each circumstance. And if she has forgotten, then Josephine should have reminded her, but no! Even Josephine is wearing that male uniform!

The uniform looks great for men, actually Cullen and Dorian look very handsome in it. But there is no way a female would wear that ... not even in the worst nightmare!

And to make thing even worse,

Spoiler

So, please, Bioware, let your  women designers make the female clothes and hairdos. A femenine touch is definitely needed. They will know what to do, I am sure.

Or at least, let us mod the game so we can fix this monstruosity (as I fixed the party dress for Mark of the Assassin).

Happy 2015!

Ashara I totally agree with you! Seriously the armours and outfits need a lot of work in this game there are so few options. It would be ok if at least they enabled modders to fix the shortfall as was possible in previous dragon age games. But when they said 'no' to modders one would assume they would make sure there were many 'choices' of armours, weapons and cosmetic enhancements that such a huge game needs.

I think there are many attractive options already in game and as you said... seeing Morrigan in the ballgown and Vivienne in some of her gorgeous mage dresses with lovely fabrics and colours, this is like so frustrating for me especially as I have no hopes of dlc or mods :(  (I can't see them giving us lots of pretty things in dlc, they never have in other games)

Are we forgetting that some of the most prominent fashion designers are men? I am not speaking as a naysayer but I am speaking as a follower of fashion.

I have followed fashion for a while and it is one of the places that hasn't been run with a type of discrimination. In fashion, as long as something looks good which is fundamental, you will be good.

OP you should have called for a better fashion designer rather than a gender.

Nope, because you are still military representing your inquisition while covertly protecting the empress. Dress the part. Not the party.

Josaphine and Lelianna could have easily briefed you on how the game works. Considering they have been giving you hints on how it works if you spam the investigate options in dialogue. The sudden perfection of dancing is an odd one even to me now that I think about it. I got nothing on that one.

I don't disagree there should be more options on the matter, but if there was any option I would have picked, it would be riding in there with an honor guard and inquisition banners raised high.

Wasn't there a thread about how dresses are really hard to do without clipping issues?

I think that is pure cop out... the Twi'lek in SWTOR has major clipping issues with its Likku, but hey they still went ahead with it ( because most people understood). DA:O was able to accomplish it as well, maybe the new art team isn't that capable.

The hairstyles in this game are the worst. DA:O was better than this. Anything is better than this.

When it comes to character customization Bioware could take a cue from Dragon's Dogma.

And to add insult to injury all the helmets look horrible and don't fit any of the outfits. Only Qunari get a few good ones.

They're just as much of a joke over here. And have you seen how bad the facial hair is - even when it's actually attached to the face?

Independent of gender, the design of the clothes and armor in the game is really, really weird. My male inquisitor runs around with high, purple leather boots, a purple bow with a pink handle, a blueish helmet and a golden mail that more looks like a short yellow dress.

I don't care at all about people's sexuality, as long as they are happy in their lives, but I do wish while playing this game that the design wouldn't make my eyes bleed so much. It's just horrible!

Pretty much any part of the CC related to hair is a train wreck, irrespective of gender. No-one got the better of the deal.

Everyone should just wear regimental kilts to the ball, problem solved ;D

Joking, joking (though I wouldn't say no to kilts in-game... kilts are nice... the pleats at the back sway from side to side as people run in kilts....)... but yes, I agree that it would be nice to actually have a choice in what to wear for that scene, and around Skyhold too. I don't mind the uniform-trousered look for a fem!inquisitor, but I wouldn't be opposed to having a more dress/skirt version of the same uniform if there was one. Or... heck... would be nice to have my inquisitor's uniform looking a wee bit different from everyone else's because I'm the Inquisitor, I lead the Inquisition!

Yes, I think Inquisitors version needs badass cape.

The Inquisitor is there in the capacity of a military leader, not a regular guest. He or she is wearing what is effectively dress uniform, as are those that attend on the Inquisition's behalf.

Agreed, nothing is more sexy on woman than uniform ^^

I have seen mods of the uniform, not black but white with black details. I liked how it looked. Too bad I'm console player : /

Ahh.. hairstyles and costumes. Yes, I agree entirely with your sentiment, wishes and hopes.

The PC Community Concerns thread has some interesting comments from a Bio developer which contains hints regarding limitations. The scars and aging mesh layer is absent from low end graphic settings. I conclude it applies to hair style as well, given the shiny plastic looking hair on low settings.

Mesh layers may be a forced design decision based on the need to play the game on 5 platforms of which two are old gen with low graphic capabilities. Which means any modding abilitity given to modders to create awesome hairstyles/costumes, may be restricted to only high end gear.

It's Orlais so military uniforms should be rather pompous as well. It mostly reminded me of this costume from anime: http://www.paffio.it...tere01/0063.jpg which is also based in French (before revolution) so nothing could be more fitting to me than that uniform really. I guess that's reason who I'm so fond of it as well : )
