So im on my 2nd run, a mage, and when it came to picking the specialization I was gonna go with Rift Mage, so I could use firestorm and play it like the MP Elementalist, then I realised it was a focus ability and it would share a cooldown with Mark of the Rift...as MotR was already a great AOE spell I decided to go FE instead and focus on defensive stuff. Ive not learned any of my companion focus abilities for the same reason

Whjat I want to know is are there any focus abilities that are better than MotR (from companions)? That are worth swapping out on my rotation for?

I know Rampage/Dragon Rage on a warrior is as effective but I don't see this being as useful on an NPC

Sera's Thousand Cuts is the boss-slayer ability.

Companions use their own focus bars, so you don't have to worry about them using your focus up.

Neither did I for a long time. This game is awesome, but absolutely terrible at explaining stuff to the player.

there are gd focus skills such as

thousand cuts its really gd

knight enchanters healing glyph focuses ability's is ok but should have healing over time

the guardian for warriors focus ability is good for taking no damage at all for a while

I can defiantly for my opinion the assassins focus ability is absolutely rubbish as its doesn't all ways work right it doesn't last long at all it out done by stealth and to be honest its kinda boring prefer something like thousand cuts, my opinion

all other focus ability's I cant give an a opinion on

Hail of Arrows is really good. Not Thousand Cuts level OP but still capable of putting dragons down in under 20 seconds.

Rally (Templar) and Haste (Necromancer) are my favorite defensive focus abilities.

They don't use them themselves, however, unless you activate it in the tactics menu.

And here I thought I had to be careful with how much focus abilities I used. Jeez that's broken.

That's certainly for the best.  But I hadn't even bothered taking the companion abilities before, figuring that I'd save all of my focus for MotR.  This changes things.

One more question...do companions lose their earned focus points if you swap them out thne bring them back?
