Fallow Mire sucked. Small, pointless and as Iron Bull says, smells like ass.
Best and worst regions.

I have two of each.
My favorites were: Crestwood (due to the environment changing) and Emerald Graves (due to it feeling the most like a place I would want to go)
My least favorites were: Hinterlands (there felt to be a lot of back tracking and very little organization to the quests) and Hissing Wastes (a little to flat and empty and that was my concern of what the entire game could have been like).
Personally I was disappointed that Emprise's environment didn't change (like Crestwood) after clearing it out for it the way it was described on the way there the ice and snow was unnatural and could have disappeared after we liberated it.

I wish the Arbor Wilds had been a full zone. It was so pretty.

Least favorite was probably the Hissing Wastes. It's a good scenic map, and it does give you the feeling of actually being in a huge desert, but there isn't much interesting to do there.

I loved all the areas, including those others seem to have hated. Hissing wastes and the hinterlands were really fun for me and I enjoyed the exalted plains, as well. I wish we could have spent more time in the arbor wilds, though.

Best: Western Approach.
Worst: Exalted plains.
Now you.
I agree with that. **** all those shitty cardboard forts in the Exalted Plains. Once I got to the last one I was ready to burn more than just corpses.

Personally my favorite are the smaller zones there may be less content there but what is there is much better and less exhausting (hinterlands looking at you >.>). Empure du whatever the hell it's called (it was snowy and had red templars everywhere), was my favorite. Retaking the quarry was a great quest and reminded me of DA:O in that it was somewhat linear and dungeon like.
My most hated zone was probably the hinterlands. If I went just with looks the hissing wastes win, but god, was hinterlands ANNOYING. Not only did hinterlands have the most poorly written quests(you know that quest that ask for felandris WITHOUT telling you it's in another lvl 16ish zone?) it also had the strangest level ranges. I think most people remember that lvl 12 rift next to the farm that you normally approach at around lvl 6. Ugh, I don't want anymore large zones like that. If I want a massive open world game to immerse my self in I'll go play skyrim.

(I adored Solas' quest and enjoyed the Dalish quests. But those horrible ramparts...)

Favorites: Crestwood, Hinterlands, Western Approach.
Areas I could do without: Fallow mire and Emarlad graves. The only thing I really like about EG is the dragon that drops the Helm Of The Inqusitor.

Favourite: Emerald Graves - it's a beautiful area and makes me feel I would like to stay there. Some quests are also nice.
Least favourite: Forbidden Oasis - this one I'm going to simply skip from now on. I don't have a good sense of direction and this place was close to a nightmare. I don't care about the shards, I value my nerves more.

Favourite: Hissing wastes, excellent atmosphere and brought out what a desert is actually like.
Least favourite: Emprise du lion, too cramped

Favourites:
Crestwood; I like the way the area changes, also the areas story is interesting.
The Fallow Mire; The atmosphere is really well done and I liked the 'environmental hazzard' of the bog, also it leads to the goat judgement
.
Storm Coast; Recruiting the Blades of Hessarian and having them roam the area working for you is cool plus it's probably my favourite area visually.
Worst:
Hissing Wastes; Too empty, very minimalistic story, lack of quests - areas like this were my biggest worry about DAI going open world, hopefully Bioware doesn't do anything like it again in terms of emptiness, although it is pretty.
This, plus Emprise De Lyons...mostly because it felt a little siege-y. You took outposts up the mountain one by one, had siege engines and such pointed at that tower in the distance, then the final plunge into the keep itself, larger than most others...yeah, it was good. ![]()

Best: Hissing Wastes. Best non-companion side quest in the game. I enjoyed the vastness of the zone. It is a waste after all.
Worst: Exalted Plains. Don't even know where to start. Too many mundane quests. Get these supply caches, gather these materials for favor, wander around these labyrinthine trenches, who's fighting who? Doesn't matter, burn some bodies. Something, something, freedmen. Also it takes place during that time of day where it feels like the sun is always in your eyes. And I'm sorry, but Orlesian villages are just ugly as sin. Those pastel colored hovels make me want to throw up. I ****** hate Orlesians.

Personal Favorite: Exalted Plains
I love how we got to see some effects of the Civil War and aid the armies who were both dealing with their own issues. Celene's forces trapped in the Elven Fortress with the Eye of Sauron searing everything... That was cool. I also enjoyed repopulating the ramparts, and I met the Dalish there. Not exactly the most beautiful zone (Except for the marsh area, that's incredible.) but I enjoyed the quests. Yeah, I actually enjoyed the side-quests.
I would have preferred if this zone was more tied into the main story: I wish we had to come here BEFORE Wicked Hearts, and had to actually choose between which army we save. Then, the owner of that army (Gaspard/Celene) invites us to the Ball. It also would have given us a clearer perspective on the issues Orlais is facing due to Gaspard's bid for the throne.
Least Favorite: The Hinterlands
I get it, its the introductory zone. It isn't supposed to be extremely confusing... But it gets boring. Don't stay here for too long!
Honourable Mentions:
- The Hissing Wastes: Such a huge zone. I've had some good moments staring out across the desert, spotting a mysterious light and then trekking across the dunes to investigate the source of the light. Also, Dog Vendor. One of my favorite zones. It may seem empty at times, but I enjoy the sense of just "Go" I got here. Its like Skyrim: Just start walking, see what you encounter.
- Crestwood: Ah, nostalgia. Remember that early Pax 2013 demo video in Crestwood and the Western Approach? Remember when we had to choose between the keep and the village, and when we could throw Antivan Fire on the ship to cut off reinforcements? Oh well. I still throw Antivan Fire on the ship when I pass by. That said, I enjoy the weather change and the underwater Rift. Overall, a decent zone.
- The Fallow Mire: I like marshes. They're creepy, and DAI has good looking marshes. That is all. BTW, those undead in front of the keep are NOT endless.
- Emprise Du Lion: I found myself actually enjoying setting up each camp as we advanced on the Keep. I would have preferred if Imshael had more important (You know, an actual cutscene instead of a casual conversation) but its fine, I guess. Very pretty zone, too.

Yeah, and the part with the "spirit" of choice, ugh, If I had know what he did to that templar ;_; I soo regret taking power (yeah, cuz I love getting a pendant that gives more power to COLE).

I hate Hissing Wastes with a passion. My god it made my OCD go nuts. I have to explore and V the heck out of every inch in every map, and with those mountains and a thousand rock paths I was ready to scream curses.
The weird thing, I loved it a lot the first 2 hours I was there, with the night sky desert and beautiful stars. Then I was ready to never think of it again (but had to for a while -.-).
Best is definitely Emerald Graves. My elven feels surfaced in that lush green forest. The sad and melancholic music symbolizing the elves' fall from grace and the beautiful sadness of the zone amplified all my feels.

I hated Emerald Graves on my first playthrough, because of complete lack of banter there. Since everything is working fine now:
Best: rainy Crestwood (that atmosphere... and thunders!) and Hissing Wastes (I love desert areas at night)
Worst: sunny Crestwood (compared to the rainy version it's rather tedious) and Exalted Plains (I don't know why, but I just don't like it. I think that annoying area quest with undeads is the main reason)

*I would mind the FM way less if there was a way to stop the corpses spawning from the water. Maker spit on Blackwall's tendencies to go wandering off in the bog.

I didn't mind the Hinterlands at first, but maybe because I was still in the early stages of the game where I was still enamored by even the smallest things. I genuinely liked the Exalted Plains, though. It had enough points of interest to keep the map interesting, unlike say the Storm Coast which was basically a whole bunch of nothing.
Best: Exalted Plains (with the Western Approach being a close second, perhaps followed by the Hinterlands)
Worst: Storm Coast

I prefer the zones that tie into the main story and/or have some settlement with people to protect and a merchant to toss junk at. If I had to pick a favourite, I'd likely go with Crestwood because of the tight focus it has and the way the area changes based on our actions. The lake drains (partially), the suns comes out, the village is safe, we conquer a fort and make it ours ... Every zone should be like that. I'd rather have seen a third of the areas cut and the rest fleshed out more along with the overall plot. Giving how the story never loses a pretty strong sense of urgency, prancing through all these optional areas can be rather immersion-breaking.
Least favourite is harder ... maybe the Fallow Mire? Lots of water. Stepping into water makes ranged enemies pop up and say hello. It gets old fast. Also, it's empty and depressive.

Loved Crestwood and the Storm Coast.
Hated Oasis, as looking for the final shards in that place was a complete nightmare. Wasted way too much time in that area ![]()
