So I was playing as a female elf inquisitor with my first play through.  I was planning to romance either Sera or Solas.  I didn't start romancing Solas until halfway through the game but was romancing Sera as soon as I could.  I was then trying to see if I could get one of them to initiate the relationship but neither did.  Then I drank from the Well of Sorrows, duh I was the First in my Clan and it was going to grant me access to memories of elven history!  But that is when things went south.  Sera lost interest, no heart option in the dialog wheel for her, and I haven't been able to get a Heart to appear in any of Solas' standard dialog wheels.  Only in those cinematic ones.

Am I screwed?  Or can someone help me get with one of my bea's?

Probably too late. I haven't finished either of those romances yet but from what I can tell, Temple of Mythal is a possible end point for Sera. And I believe Solas as well but like I've said, I haven't done either, just piecing them together from what I do know.

Well that sucks.  At least for Sera I don't have to be an Elf so I can romance her as either a human or qunari (likely my next play through)  Solas though.  He was such an interesting character.  Its a shame that I can't romance him without rolling another elf.  Hopefully Rogue/Warrior will have enough of an impact on the play through to see me through.

The time to start a Solas romance is during the conversation on the balcony outside the Inqi's bedroom. (The one where he asks if the anchor has changed the Inquisitor.) If you are in a semi-relationship with someone else the heart icon won't even appear. I flirted with too many people at the beginning and didn't get the option because Solas thought my Inquisitor was romancing Beardy McFeathers. D'oh. But she wound up with Cullen, so it probably turned out for the best.

EDIT: I should have said "the one chance to lock in a Solas romance is on the balcony." As others have said you must flirt with him before that and kiss him in the Fade. If the balcony scene passes with no heart icon you can't start a romance with him at all.

And as for "why flirt with multiple people," I initially started flirting to "feel out" the options to see if there was one I liked best, but I shot myself in the foot, because by the time I decided I wanted Solas he thought I was with someone else and I didn't get the option to lock him in instead. (Blackwall!*shakes fist*)

I believe it starts even before that. You need to kiss him in Haven, otherwise the romance won't ever happen. Sera will break up with you if you don't agree with her beliefs on the elven gods.

I think you have to have a romance locked in before going to the Arbor Wilds, and if you go in not having one locked in then you're locked out of all of them.

Why do ppl do this? Why bounce between two people, that has serious potential of screwing up the romance.

Solas has to be flirted with from the beginning and flirting with anyone else will screw it up.

Its VERY hard to romance Sera as an elf, I'd try with dwarf or Qunari.

If everyone had their LI decided from the beginning there wouldn't be these type of threads. The only romance I had trouble with was IBs and that was my first PT when I was still figuring out the game, just romanced him a 2nd time and I've had no trouble, got the balcony scene with him at the winter palace, and made the necklace of Kadan for him. Which I got NONE of that first time.

Currently trying to romance Sera as a dwarf in another save and she just keeps telling me "lets travel around a bit more and we'll see."

Romanced Sera with an Elf. It wasn't as hard as previous post claims.

I could go through it rather smoothly without previous knowledge/experience with the game (as I finished the story bit of the playthrough a week after release, there were no guides, and I kept away from the forums, other than Sera thread)

Then again, it could be that we're quite a match in personalities. I still doubt it's just that.

But, yeah. What I wanted to say, I did Here Lies the Abyss before Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts, and my romance was locked in (all the way with full commitment) in time to get something special with Sera during WEWH.

For Solas, you have to have flirted with him at least once before getting Skyhold. Then at Skyhold you have to have high enough approval that picking the "I want to get to know you better" option triggers a cutscene where he takes you to Haven. Then you have to pick the flirt option and kiss him in that cut scene.

After his personal quest, you'll get another romantic scene. And again if you bring him to the Halamshiral ball. The final romance scene happens right after the temple of Mythal.

Solas's romance is best done throughout the whole course of the game. You can knock out most of the scenes for a lot of the romances between big story missions, but Solas's are more spread-out.

Sera's just not 'elfy'.

If your inquisitor is an elf, that floats her boat the least.
And you want to make elfy choices?

Romance goes two ways - they have to like your character as well...

(Play a Qunari and don't fawn over the elves and you'll be meeting the demands of the Qun in no time...)

For the dramas. I bounced back and forth between Anders and Fenris in one DA2 playthrough for the dramas. Love triangle ftw.

When I did the Solas romance and still took the flirting options when available for Cullen, 'cause I thought a triangle there might be fun. Cullen saw right through that, though, so I didn't have to (get to?) have a scene where I had to turn him down.

And also, to feel out character chemistry. Maybe I don't want to pick an LI before the playthrough and I want to just see how things go. :)

Oh, well ok then lol. I did a love triangle between Alistair and Zevran in origins but once the drama unfolded I decided I didn't want that I was just like "ooohhh nnooo what have I done?" Never did it again since. I just feel better playing a character who is loyal, the romance has more meaning to it for me that way.

I could be wrong, but I think it's perfectly safe to flirt as much as you want while still in Haven.  Once you progress to Skyhold I think that's when the flirts start you on the actual romance path.  I know that in my first play through my Lavellan flirted with Solas, Blackwall, Cullen, and Dorian (heh).  I wasn't sure who I wanted to pursue so I was testing them all out.  But Solas quickly won out.  When I got to Skyhold he was the only one I continued to flirt with and the romance progressed without a problem.

My advice is make sure once you're in Skyhold you only flirt with your intended.

From best I can tell, you can flirt with everyone all your want up until Skyhold. This would be the time to decide who you actually want to romance.

If you want to try out a romance - only talk to that person and no one else. I'm in the process of testing this, but I think so long as you decide who you want to romance before you do Temple of Mythal, you should be able to cycle through all the romances you want, as long as you only talk to the person you're currently trying to romance, and dump them before you get "locked in."

I'd test that "no other flirts allowed in Skyhold" theory, if I could.

Still, while that's how I'd test it, I heard of people hitting on Cass up until the rejection scene, where she lets you know she's not into women, and then those same characters romanced Sera in the end.

yes but it's not possible for a female Inquisitor to romance Cass so I am fairly sure that continuing to flirt with her upon arrival at Skyhold wouldn't affect your romances.  For example my female Inquisitors never stop flirting with Dorian.  Even after committing to someone.  The Skyhold flirts more than likely only matter for romances that are possible for you to be in.

I know of people that had to break up with Blackwall because they flirted with him on the battlements and he wasn't who they intended to romance.  It locked them in and they couldn't romance anyone else until they rectified it.

This. I actually don't like the love triangle infighting.

Even knowing the Blackwall drama, I'm still going to romance him this playthrough as my female Qunari. I considered Sera, but then decided that my Qunari character fit better with Blackwall. I flirted on the battlements at Skyhold, so I'm guessing from reading this and other posts that I'm locked into his romance arc.

But since Dorian is not an option for female, then I can flirt with him for funsies without any trouble?

No, there shouldn't be a problem.

Neither of you are serious about it, anyway.

I've been flirting with him since he joined the Inquisition. I was just saying how I thought that if you flirt with him when you first arrive at Skyhold, then you're locked into the relationship with him. Is that right?

Not really your flirtation will mean nothing if next things are not done ;Things needed for any romance:

-Flirt as much as possible as No.1 ^_^

-Have high enough approval so you can get their personal quest

-Do personal quest

-Make sure you have high enough approval for romance to trigger

-If you do then romance shall trigger and you will be in romance(sex scene to put it bluntly lol that is how you will know if you triggered it or if you still need work on it by getting higher approval)

Spoiler

Note:Once as I said both "Here Lies the Abyss" and "Wicked Hearts" have been done and cleared out you will be locked in your current romance and you will be unable to break up with your current LI or to flirt with anyone else as well.If you have not already activated romance by not doing their personal quests or not simply having high enough approval also once these two quests are both done then you will be locked out of romances which means once again you will lose flirt option and you will be unable to start romance. So make sure you do these things from list above and also make sure you already have initiated romance before clearing out both of missions.

Hope this helps :)

If you flirt with Blackwall at Skyhold a bug can occur where other potential LIs will refuse to enter a relationship with you until you "tell the other person no.". (Except Solas who will just lose all flirt options.) Sera tells you the "other person" is Blackwall. You will not have the option to officially enter a relationship (or break it off) with Blackwall until you have done his personal quest at the Storm Coast and spoken to him afterwards. You should not lose the option to flirt with Dorian even if you are officially a couple with Blackwall.

Since you are romancing Blackwall this shouldn't cause any problems for you. I intended to romance Solas but got friendzoned because I flirted with Blackwall, and the only way to call off his romance was to do his personal quest and then dump him. By that time the option to start a romance with Solas was past and my IQ moved on to Cullen, which worked out rather well for her.
