I'm quite fascinated with the lore and I always wanted to go there ever since the fade in DA: O. Being in fade and all the talk in Inquisition bout entering the city left me kind of disappointed cause I expected a final battle whit in the fade and the Inquisitor turning into a god or  something else.

I think that would risk being as satisfying as meeting the creator of the Reapers and learning his secrets was.

With the Inquisitor having the power to enter the fade physically, it would've made a lot of sense for us to visit the black city in this game. Of course, the whole black city thing seems to be an endgame sort of thing, so I imagine we'll probably go there in the 5th game if Bioware is still following their 5 game plan.

MMm...as much as I'd like to go (well sort of , it's not a great place with the dead whisper and the blight)...I don't feel like we're going to do that.

One of the main mystery of DA is the Golden City afterall .

Now I suppose we could go and don't get many answers , or more questions as usual.

What being close enough you could almost touch it in the nightmare lair wasn't good enough? Given the lore about the place and the fact that the city turned black the last time people went into it I'd hate to see what would happen a second time around.

I dont think so because people would be dissapointed and they would have to come up with new lore since a lot of their mysteries would be solved. I would like to go, but it creates more problems than it solves for the writers.

We're never going to enter the Black City for the exact same reason we're never going to see the Maker in-game.

Considering what happened last time someone visited the black city I really can't see any justifications for going there...

Granted the lore isn't foolproof, such as the idea that physically entering the fade at all is supposed to be bad, which gets disproved when you do it without issue, but the magisters did get darkspawned after all

Eventually I guess. I don't think it's that big a deal anymore, it's just a messed up Arlathan.

I think it would be interesting, at least to get some lingering lore threads answered, kinda getting tired of all the ?s. But I'd rather get to explore that eluvian network and other worlds morrigan mentioned first

Our Inquisitor can get there if needed. Anyone else think the Black/Golden city and Arlathan are one in the same?

I hope not.

Some things are better left a mystery. Also that would either result in turning into a crazy darkspawn like Corypheus or the protagonist promoted to god tier Mary Sue. Neither is very appealing, IMO.

I felt that the final battle should have been in the fade.... The Black City ? It makes my imagination go wild since DAO. They did a very good job at this religious chantry stuff. Going to the Black Ciity might result in ME style finalization of the story. :P  it's not a place where you just go like that for a walk and come back easily.. if ever at all.

I honestly thought there'd be an option for your Inquisitor to enter the Black City at the end of the game, as muddled as that may have made future storylines.

I'm going to assume that sometime in the future of this series we'll enter the Black City and have all our questions answered. I don't expect that to happen any time before the final game of the entire setting.

I doubt it. When it comes to things like that in RPG's, (good) developers tend to leave things open for debate.

It would make for a good DLC, something those that want to do it can play but, that those that don't want to know don't have to see.

We're never going to enter the Black City for the exact same reason we're never going to see the Maker in-game.

Just like we'll never find out if the Chantry's story about Magisters entering the Black City is actually true?

I think everything short of revealing the Maker itself is fair game for confirmation or denial or a twist without fundamentally altering the nature of faith in Thedas.

I doubt it, but I'm desperately hoping we will.

I think the lore(from what we know) currently goes like this:

For some reason, the Maker locked the corruption of the Blight in the Black City. Maybe he tried to contain it this way. Maybe it wasn't the Maker at all, but drunk elven gods, or Solas playing Diamondback again. Probably the Maker. I doubt the elven gods had anything to do with it, myself, because Cole clearly said: "locked in a mirror". So no Black city for those guys.

Then, of course, Tevinter magisters thought: "Oh, the seat of the Maker! It looks grand, and we can see it from every corner of the Fade! Cool! Let's get there and get power!" And they got there, and OF COURSE they got the Blight, and naturally, the Blight spread to all four corners of the world, and we nearly died, except for the Grey Wardens, because Duncan is that awesome(okay, not delving into "Duncan travelled back in time and stopped the First Blight, because he's cooler than Chuck Norris", because I just made that up).

Bottom line: no, travelling to the Black City via the anchor is a bad, bad, bad idea, unless you want to end up a broodmother.

THey dont actually have a 5 game plan.

Nah, if ME3 is any Example; when you try to explain something that is built up to be a large mystery that forms the very core of your story's lore it disappoints the audience.

I myself want to go, but I know it will probably disappoint.

Umm, did people forget that entering the black city turns you into a darkspawn? Unless you specifically want to end up like Corypheus, entering the black city for any reason is incredibly stupid.

Hopefully NOT! And also hopefully they resolve that whole Elvhen-God-Solas-stuff in DLCs and leave most of it out of DA4 ... I really don't dig the whole god/godlike being-stuff and all that...I want soemthing more Earthbound next time around...
