What about The Maker himself? Is he an abstraction or a real being?

One thing i've learned is that Eleni Zinovia knows everything. And she says their's a maker.

Probably in the last game, as a final grande culmination of events. If corruption blackened it, it'll just take a saint to make it golden again

Good question. I think if we did, there'd have to still be plenty of unanswered questions left. Like the Black City isn't the "real" Black City, or something.

Given how that turned out for Corypheus and co, I'm not entirely sure I want to enter the Black City.

I mean, the whining about ugly characters in DA:I was unbearable enough as is.  Just imagine the neverending baaaawfest that would erupt if your PC ended up looking like him.

I think I could stand the facial deformity if it allowed me to become a seemingly immortal being of supreme magical power that later becomes the ultimate benevolent puppet master of all of Tyria. It would only be a slight upgrade from what my KE is now anyway.

Plus, I would finally have the power to command Alistair to put on a pretty dress and dance the Remigold for my amusement.

I don't think there are that many ancient magisters left.

Spoiler

Corypheus could body hop if he got killed, provided the body he hopped to had the taint. Maybe the others can too.

I'm betting the Architect isn't dead even when he gets "killed" in Awakening. He probably just hopped to Serani or some other darkspawn when he died.

No, and I hope not. Keep it a mystery. If this is going to be a ongoing world, and ongoing series then why bother with basically one of the biggest mysteries.

In Mass Effect, the game's answers were given in #3 as it was the end of a series but Dragon Age won't have that end, it could just keep going.

Your statements do not contradict that Arlathan is the Black City. Yes, the Golden City existed when it was Arlathan once ;) Then it got sealed away in the fade (I do not know if the fade being created for this very purpose adds up but it certainly sounds that way) after it presumably turned black by the elven gods themselves as they destroyed it by war.  Corypheus in DA2 says that the city was already black when they got there, where does he say that he walked the golden halls?

The Temple of Mythal has a loooot of golden surfaces all over the place...

Your statement that the Black City is not a reflection but physical actually very much supports the idea that it is Arlathan. The actual city transported into the fade. That's why it disappeared.

The Maker may still exists abstractly as the magic in Thedas. As a life force or even the "goodness" inside everyone. The irony would of course be that Tevinter sought the Golden City as the seat of the Maker while it may just be the former seat of the elven "gods".

Its not that i think that it cant be Arlathan. But since you havent played DA:O. you are missing 85% of the whole lore. Here is the thing. The city is physically in the fade. There is overwhelming evidence of that the black city is physically in the fade. But a lot more questions arise. While the art of arlathan ressemble a bit the city, there is several things that make them dis-sociable. They do look different from one another, not like, mutated sort, but basically not the same thing. The city was golden at one point. The ancient elves, dreamers etc... and arlathan cant be existing and the golden city being physically in the fade at the same time. The thing is that we dont know when it happened (going black) Arlathan was destroyed by the elves, the black city isnt a ruin or a crumbling city either. The taint isnt from the black city but the answer of it is there (DA:A) What intrigues me the most isnt all of these. Its HOW did the taint got there? knowing its a TOOL with a purpose, nevermind all the things it does that are just flat out odd and weird since it does a lot of different things. Its also what IS the city? Dont forget that the veil is artificial. It was constructed by someone. The Golden city could have been always there pre-veil. then it goes about what are spirits? what was the world like before? who did all this and why? You talk about theories but mention them as if they were facts. ''it presumably turned black by the elven gods themselves as they destroyed it by war''  ia- what do you mean presumably? you mean you came up with this and have nothing to back it up lol. you need to understand that destruction has nothing to do with its color. The elven gods didnt destroy anything, they were gone with Fen Harel going into slumber. Thats why the elves most likely went nuts. At least thats what the characters in the game thinks. Also, the black city is not the original of the taint, its not the elven god that did something to it or anything, the taint isnt from them directly. Its a tool, it has power. its a cause, not a consequence.

As for the Maker. You talk about the concept of him, versus what i mean by the version of the Chantry which paints him as someone that created all things and is THE god. As for the concept, yes you can say hes magic, hes abstract etc..But is he what hes supposed to be? is the Maker the maker? The version of Andraste, versus the version of the elven lore. they cannot co-exist in the sense that both stories are true. You could say that the Maker is the Sun God etc.. But that goes to say that the elven pantheon is right and andraste is a liar(you could come in with theories about stuff when it comes to her, but my point is HER belief, what she said about everything, look at her chant for instance)

Its unsure truly what happened btw the magisters and the Old gods. They were promised stuff, they talked to dumat according to them. No one knows what happened to the others, The architect being most likely one of em. Cory says at the very end that he walked the halls of the Golden city. Its to note that the fact someone can achieve God-hood and that the city is connected to that and that it has a throne is interesting to say the least.

Hmm when it comes to the maker even if you throw the Andrastian/chantry teachings on him you still get a ancient deity that the ancient Tevinter and the proto Tevinter tribes belived created the world, something they still belived even after they started worshiping the old gods. Also there's that Eleni Zinovia foretold the maker's return so the maker likely does exist though what his relation to the the golden/black city is unknown other than what the chantry claims.

Arlathan was "sunk into the earth". There's not even a ruin, as far as I know. If any real city was transformed into the Golden/Black City, it's Arlathan.
